    The Defendant thinks the Plaintiffs are trying to "shake him down" for a $200 vet bill that he even admits involved a 30second attack/scuffle??? Thats not what a "shake down" is.

  • @missy67
    @missy67 Год назад +52

    This scenario has happened to me and my dog before. A dog can bite, just not chomp down and break the skin. But as a pet owner, you just don't know what damage has been done, especially if your dog is acting frightened. If the defendant had just apologized that his dog got out and scared them (even if he didn't think any damage was done) they may not have come to court. $200 is not a huge vet bill to "keep the peace in the neighborhood".

    My cat got attacked by a dog and had no puncture wounds, ate her food that night and was dead the next morning. Dog bites don’t always leave puncture wounds but when a dog shakes it’s head when it bites it can cause internal bleeding even if there’s no puncture wounds.

    Defendant is selfish and lacks empathy. Just because you wouldn’t take your dog to the vet over a punctureless fight doesn’t mean everyone else has to follow your lead. The plaintiffs have every legal right to have their dog checked out and the vet bill was nothing short of reasonable.

    my dog was attacked 2 years ago my a neighbours dog. There were 2 tiny puncture wounds that I couldn't even see until the fur was shaved. But the injury was far worse. This is how the vet explained it. When dogs bite they will also shake their heads. This causes the skin to be torn from the muscle beneath leaving a pocket of air and fluid. The puncture wounds are minor in comparison.

    • @Luke-ey
      @Luke-ey Год назад +1

      True, but the difference in your case is there actually was puncture wounds which allows the dog to be gripped and shaken to cause that shearing trauma. When a dog is being mouthed but not punctured that shearing trauma can’t occur because there’s no grip on the soft tissues. Also the pocket of air can only occur if the airway or lungs are ruptured or if there’s puncture wounds to allow the air in to create the sub-cut emphysema. So whilst you’re correct in your case, that wasn’t the case here. Luckily it sounds like it just scared the dog and the owner more than anything else.

    Everyday I get nervous taking my pup boxer out. I live in apartments and soo many of the tenants walk their dogs w/o a leach because the yards are big. It really upsets me because I keep my dog on a leash and he’s too big for me to pick him up if a dog comes after him. He’s soo sweet too that he’d think they’re trying to play w/ him. even without finishing this case the defendant owes the money. Yes a dog can get bitten without puncture ones because it can almost be more like a pinch depending on how the bite occurs and in a situation like that even if the animal is entirely unharmed, it is still prudent to take the dog to the vet and have them looked at which still cost money. He is responsible regardless because his dog got out

    A bite is a bite. The pressure of the bite is enough to cause tissue trauma, there doesn't have to be any punctures. Tearing the connective tissue can cause a pocket of 'air' that has to be treated. Given enough motivation a dog will readily breach an electronic fence despite being shocked.

    When my chihuahua was attacked, she had very little bleeding, minor puncture marks barely visible under her fur, and internal tears that had to be surgically fixed. She also had the air pockets talked about... the vet bill was $2168. Lack of obvious puncture wounds does not mean zero damage.

    60lb dog could probably fit the yorkie in its mouth without puncturing with canines. Being a dog bite victim advocate, YES there can be serious injuries without a bite. We see it often. We encourage people to get their dog checked and keep a serious eye on the area.
    The grab and shake breaks up the bonds between flesh, busting capillaries/interrupting blood flow. Which is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, leading to sepsis.
    Plus bones can be broken, especially a dog that small.
    My pom was attacked, her fur and me going Xena on it saved her. I kept an eye on that area because I knew too. Luckily only minor bruising. It was an 80lb AmBull that my neighbor owns, no fence, snapped the shitty wire tether.

  • @KayTee979
    @KayTee979 Год назад

    I have been bitten a few times by dogs and not had any puncture wounds (vet med), but the resulting bruising is painful and impressive. Dog bites can just damage the underlying muscle while not breaking the skin. If you are 8 pounds, just got nommed on by a bigger dog and are bruised, you likely aren't going to willingly let your owner thoroughly check you over, so it is completely logical to take the dog to the vet to be sure there are no injuries. Dog bites can also cause things like punctured lungs/fractured ribs/ruptured bladder, etc (and there does not need to be an open puncture wound for these to happen, the shaking motion can cause this damage).
    It is 100% the right thing to do to take your dog into the vet after an attack. The guy at the end saying he wouldn't, I believe him because he is also the type of person that thinks an electronic fence is proper containment.
