But I agree that when you can't feel it, you have to wonder if it will actually change players' strategies and behavior.
Nerfing the pike was a mistake, It was balanced. It had good fire rate and good damage for the amount of ammo it held. Now it's just another underpowered weapon for medium.

It was too good though. It was punishing to fight and way too good at range. Going against a squad with all 3 running the pike was just a joke.
