    Gardening in Montana is such a roller coaster ride as no year has been the same since I moved here in 2008. Planting begins at a different time every year. And the growing season is so much shorter. But it’s still a joyful occupation growing one’s own food!

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  5 лет назад +1

      So true! I wish I could have the experience of a larger garden. At my age, I'd need a little help to do it all. I worked almost exclusively by myself the first five years, but Erick, my garden man came a couple of years ago and got me through my bad injury a year ago. I wouldn't have been able to keep it going at all. Thanks for watching and please tune in to my livestream on Sunday at 10AM PST and join the conversation!

    At 65 I'm a late bloomer I started my1st garden in the summer of 2019 and like yourself, I'm building 7 rise beds in my back yard for the spring of 2020. It is taking me a long time too put it all together, in fact, I'm still not done and here it is fall November 11. I'm hoping to have it all done and ready to do its thing this winter. If I have any luck I will have lots of flowers and vegetables next summer. Thanks for sharing.

    Sometimes you are simply hilarious! Non-stop airplane noise! What a delightful introduction to your channel! My previous home is Sanford Florida was about three blocks East of my house. Talk about "non-stop airplane noise"!! The only thing I miss about it are the pineapples I grew in both the front and back yards. I might try some up here if I can ever afford a greenhouse.....

    2020 and watching this, knowing full well late bloomer garden is no longer. 😭😭😭 tragic but that's the whole point of gardening. Things are cultivated and they're gone and new things arise in its place. Cant wait to see where lateblomer garden 2.0 sprouts! Maybe a public space where she gets built in help. Or a school and students help for extra credit!!! She could teach her passion and share her knowledge to environmental science students in k-12... 🤗🤗🤗 cultivation and continual perseverance.

      ***** Water woes are pretty much the same, here, Kaye. Unfortunately, a family crisis set my summer garden back, so I haven't been watering anything, LOL! Thinking I might throw out a few okra seeds this weekend, and I started some sweet potato slips last night. We have a LOT of heat left, here.
      Cleaning out my seed rooms to start sowing brassica seeds in the next two weeks. I'll transplant the first batch 8/9, and harvest the first batch 10/18. I've calculated it takes ME 120 days from seed to harvesting my favorite Arcadia Broccoli head.
      I'll stagger 5 waves of seeds, harvesting each wave 4 months from sowing. Last harvest will be 2/8/15, so I can clear out and refresh the beds to receive tomato transplants on 2/14/15. I sow the tomato seeds at the Winter Solstice, December 20th & 21st. They transplant out at 8 weeks. I have all sorts of freeze/frost contingencies in place to protect them.
      Ciao'
      Linda

    I found your channel and I've been binge watching episodes. I really enjoy your content, you're very inspiring! I'm about to start my first garden this spring and I was wondering do you have a list of must-have gardening equipment?

    • @Latebloomershow
      @Latebloomershow  7 лет назад

      Hey, April! I just found this comment! Hope it's not too late. You MUST HAVE: work gloves (heavy and lightweight, depending on job), shovel, spade, and if you have the space, a wheelbarrow. Buckets, or mixing trays (they come in different sizes at Home Depot) to mix up your potting mixes and plant mixes. If you are seeding, that's a whole other thing, and you need a heat mat, grow light and seeding trays. Depending on your zone, it may be too late for seeding in trays, you may just want to plant seeds in ground, or buy seedlings. Also PLEASE subscribe at latebloomershow.com and confirm your subscription, and you will get a FREE ebook for beginners, with basics and some links. If you get into drip irrigation, then you will need to figure all that out, and it's really nice to have a chlorine filter on your tap outside so you can fill your water buckets (yes, you need a watering can!) with filtered water. Everything else you can accumulate along with way (you can always borrow a wheelbarrow, I did for the first two years), but the other stuff is a must. I hope this is helpful and please post any garden achievements on Late Bloomer Show on Facebook, and follow @latebloomershow on instagram for more inspiration! Thanks, April!!

    wood chips are great for keeping out mud and it turns into mulch over time, and they don't sprout.

      @Latebloomershow  9 лет назад

      +relentlessmadman Yes, indeed! I'm out of chips and I tried wood shavings on my walkways, recently, but I fear, one big wind and they will be everywhere. I'd love to get another load of chips.

    Hello Kaye!
    I have only watched 3 of your videos and received so much great information. I grew up as a city girl and loved the exciting, busy,hectic crazy life that I lead but now at mid-life, I find myself appreciating the simpler, calmer, organic, natural and healthier life style.....yes, I'm a "Late Bloomer". This includes the out doors and gardening. Recently relocating to SC I have not found my house yet so I will start my small gardening on my 3rd floor apartment balcony.
    A bird lover, I have fed several birds this winter with bird feeders so now starting a garden will be a challenge (I know, mesh cage). I will have tons of question especially about my greatest fear, BUGS on my plants. I will be starting with salad greens, berries and tomatoes. Chat with you soon!

      +Sophia Daniels Congrats, Sophia, for finding my channel and for your efforts, no matter how tiny your garden! Each week I spotlight a #topcomment on my Facebook page, facebook.com/LateBloomerShow (check it out!) and today you are it! You are exactly the person I'm trying to reach and inspire and I'm glad you started at the beginning. As you work through the seasons, you will see how much I've learned. You have a great attitude and are gardening with the space you have. So many folks say, "Oh, I can't, I don't have my own house, or yard." You are a gardener if you have one tomato plant and care for it! I encourage you to check out "Organics Best Urban Gardener" on RUclips. He's lucky to have a HUGE balcony (In Sacramento area) and his garden is entirely containers, but he has overcome health problems growing his own food and is very passionate. You will be inspired. Have a great day! Hope to hear from you regularly! - Kaye

    Hi Kaye, I’ve looked through your videos but I didn’t see anything about grapes. I wonder if you ever grown grapes? I live in SoCal zone 9! I’ve grown 2 grapes I bought from Home Depot a few years ago; 1 is concord the other is seedless flame (I think!) lol! Anyway, this year I have a lot of young grapes on one vine but the leaves looks anemic! What can I do? Well the other grape vine is barely survived! any tips would be appreciated! Thank you!
