Yes, in Ashes any archetype can use any weapon. The wand attacks faster but has a longer weapon combo (I think it’s 5 attacks to apply a finisher) and also only hits one target. The spellbook attacks a little slower, but has a shorter 3 attack combo and attacks bounce to nearby enemies. I like both depending on what you have available and what enemies you’re facing, though I mostly find myself using the spellbook.
When kiting a big elite, I usually go circle->orb->frostbolt->wand freeze->quick lightning strike->3xfirebolt->conflag->frostbolt->CoC->Chain lightning->Slumber (to wait out the snare/freeze immune after the 2nd one). Rinse repeat. Sometimes the wand finisher messes up the 2nd freeze by procing a snare immune too fast though. Not sure how to fix that.
Hmm, right now not only does the mage lack survivability but it also doesn't have any threat modifiers to make holding aggro easier aside from just out DPSing the rest of your party. I am excited to see how things change once we get secondary archetypes to augment our abilities. We could definitely see a Mage primary with Tank secondary giving us a lot more defensive utility and threat generation on our abilities.
They're not in for the time being. Looking at the roadmap, it seems like we'll get at least some of the secondary archetypes added in for phase 3 of Alpha 2 in May. That's also when we'll get Summoner, which is the archetype I've been the most excited for, so I can't wait!
Quotation about the firebolt/ combustion combo, is the 30% addative or multiplicive? The reason im asking is because if its additive firebolt would do 105% dot damage in 4 seconds but if its multiplicitive its 97.5% dot damage in 4 seconds Depending on what it is youll get kore or less damage, regardless i believe firebolt with combustion is the stronger combo than fireball and combustion, simply because of the 24 second dot being condensed to 4 seconds, even though its 75% instead of fireballs 100%
@@Tilley53 I'm getting some weird numbers, so it might be bugged or I might be missing something but looking back on some replays I found these numbers with 331.3 Magical Power and using one Firebolt into Combust. I was getting 32 dmg per tick of Burning and 36 dmg per tick of Conflagrating because Conflag ticks every half second while Burning ticks every second. Normal Burning 331.3 x 0.75 / 8sec = 31 dmg/sec or 248.475 dmg total. However, I was getting 32 dmg/sec or 256 dmg total, which I'm assuming is from the small amount of magical penetration I had (12.1%). The first tick applies instantly it seems, so the most we can amplify with Combust is 7 seconds of Burning which was 224 total dmg. Then it looks like that number is multiplied by 30% to give us about 36 dmg per tick. So the formula looks like: Total remaining Burning dmg x 1.3 = Conflagrating dmg, we can then divide that by 8 ticks to get our dmg per tick. I was also getting some non-crit outlier numbers like 71, 107, and 142. which are about 2x, 3x, and 4x the normal dmg respectively which seem like they're a bug and shouldn't be happening unless I'm missing something.
@@Radiant_AOC sorry for the late response, but thank you for taking the time to test it and get back to me on it!! I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers were a bit buggy still since it is an alpha
Your voice belongs in commercials or a radio show. I know leveling is a true grind but maybe the video would get a little more value if you get to around level 15, then you have access to most of your top row of abilities, throw down your arcane circle, cast 3 different elemental types of spells the arcane circle gathers elements you have used then you can prismatic beam with 3 elements at once. Have fun out there 🙏🏼
@@TheHollowGloom thanks! Yeah, I’ve been trying to get videos for all the archetypes over the past couple of weekends and unfortunately can’t use any of my videos from the NDA’d tests where I was a bit higher level ☹️ But yeah, looking forward to it!
Magic Cast Speed Rating seems to have less value as your character levels up. At level 1 it's about 10.4348 = 1%. At level 2 it's about 10.5128 = 1%. At level 3 it's about 10.5769 = 1%. I haven't found the exact pattern, but as it stands you need more rating to increase your cast speed % as you level. It's also possible some of these values get a little skewed by rounding the game doesn't show us.
I probably should have mentioned this before jumping into really specific numbers 😅 but you can always check how much rating you have and what % cast speed that gives by opening your Character pane > Magical Offense on the right side > hover your mouse over Magical Casting Speed.
@@igorarcadia Np! I'm not sure yet. I think it'll depend on what you're trying to do with your mage and what kind of gear we'll have available going forward.
Im sure thats their top concern in their game that is in alpha. Cant sheathe weapons in Enshouded either, which is an arpg, where it makes even more sense, and that game is very highly regarded and much further along in the development.

Nice! I really like the use of Slumber to wait out the freeze DR!
What do you think the likelihood of us seeing a viable mage tank?
Hmm, right now not only does the mage lack survivability but it also doesn't have any threat modifiers to make holding aggro easier aside from just out DPSing the rest of your party. I am excited to see how things change once we get secondary archetypes to augment our abilities.
