Black Metal been my companion since I was 18 and now I'm 41. It is more than music, it is a journey through Darkness, Melancholy, Gloom and beauty. It is an institute to understand the beauty of Forests and Graveyards. It is an elegant force that makes you feel you are marching through eternal fields of happiness and power. It makes me content, satisfied and unique.
Black metal is just so artistically rich. The passion and emotion are so palpapable. It's unapologetic and uncompromising about what it is, truly emobodies a notion of individualism. The corpse paint, inverted crosses, pentagrams, fire, studded gear, bullet belts, it's very theatrical and I just love the aesthetics it presents. The music can sound like something you discovered in an old Scandinavian tomb, like something forged in flames of Hell, like a spiritual forest journey, like a Lovecraftian abomination, like sci-fi body horror, like something born of a freezing black tundra, or like a rallying cry to glorious battle...it's extremely dynamic. The vocals are savage, emotional, and harrowing. Tremolo picking allows for you to really absorb the chords being played and indulge in them. Blast beats create a sort of static rhythmic perception that just pummels you and doesn't let up, even slower ones. I even honestly like its controversial history. I dislike Varg and Eurnymous as people. Euroynmous' reaction to Dead's suicide is repugnant and indefensible. His views on music I do not like. And Varg is a fascist nazi pussy of course. But I'd be lying if I didn't admit that the fact that such an extreme genre was born of this pseduo-cult of Norwegian maniacs, a story of satan, an obsession with death and evil that resulted in real crimes...it adds an air of danger to an already frightening genre. And the story is undeniably intriguing. Black metal reaches you in ways no other music can I'll listen to you gush about it anytime Questy, because fuck do I love gushing about it too
I've heard people talk all sorts of shit about Varg but it's the first time I've ever seen someone call him a pussy. He's got inhibition lower than your income.
I really like black metal just for the sheer amount of variety. You all have bands like Panopticon, Nortt, Bathory, Dissection, Alcest, Satanic Warmaster, Blut Aus Nord, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Absu, Enslaved, Drudkh, Darkspace in the same genre. Bands that have radically different takes on black metal.
The song Transylvania hunger is probably the song where I can feel the most atmosphere in any song ever was my very first song I ever felt the dreary ness and first song I realized I can actually feel what’s happening along with other non bm songs like black no 1, and acid witch are incredible atmosphere
Maybe three weeks ago I went out for a night run and just as I entered the forest, it began to snow very heavily (for a last time of this year, winter was raging
I'm a data analyst and programmer and black metal has always been my go to for maximum productivity. I love it for starters, but especially while working, It doesn't demand your attention, or even need your attention to transport you to another place and you can work with complete focus and zero distraction from there. I guess how the hardcore techy programmers love their dubstep, It probably takes them into that technoligical electric world where they feel like they are riding the circuit boards at high speed like tron and making the electonic 1's and 0's dance with their keyboard taps in time with the music.. Black metal does that for me, I become a dark artist deeply into my work and I always come out delivering something great
I have a friend that I got into BM and he doesn't understand how I can sit at my computer, doing financial work, while blasting black metal hahaha. It takes me to a zone where I don't need to focus while simultaneously being productive.
You described it perfectly, literally every reason is the same why I like black metal. I wouldn't add anything, everything was perfectly said! Many see music as a kind of mathematics, that's why I hate perfection and technicality in music. Black metal makes music natural and alive.Keep it raw and dark!

There's a big difference for me between liking a black metal band and liking any other kind of band, when it comes to any other genre it's just music, I listen to it and enjoy it as I do any music. But when I like a black metal band it's just on another level of enjoyment, it puts me at ease, at peace, makes me feel almost spiritual? not in a religious way but in a way of just letting my emotions take control and letting me sway away in my own mind. A black metal album doesn't even have to be remotely memorable for me to feel like I really enjoyed it, meanwhile any other kind of music if it's not memorable I get bored very quickly. I don't know... it's hard to explain. But either way I adore black metal endlessly, the only genre of music I can listen to for 8+ hours straight and still want more after. On my wedding day in the morning getting ready for the event I was shitting bricks sitting in the bathroom while I was grasping the situation, I saw some random black metal EP get recommended to me on RUclips and it just cleared my head and calmed me down when nothing else did. Despite the dark subject matter of most black metal, and as edgy as some of the artists can be about their work, it's somehow the most beautiful and calming music in the world to me.
Black metal just has a lot more emotion behind it, especially with bands and projects in the DSBM subgenre. For some bands, it's something more than just music: It's a dark energy that is potent and powerful.
BM and subgenres of BM are so visceral and raw. There is a purity and energy from the music. Dark in its nature and at its core, that isn't in other genres of music. There isn't as much prepackaged fluff. It oftentimes isn't polished nor meant to be. I like that brutal honesty and grittiness of the music that is conveyed to me as a listener. I enjoy your videos.
Love black metal is the cold nihilism and like you the atmosphere, drags you in and I can relate to the cold feeling. Also the catchy guitar riffs which ebbs and flows. Fav BM bands in no order - Mayhem, Emperor, Burzum, Marduk, Primordial, Early Darkthrone, Dimmu Borgir, Early CoF, Old Man's Child..... My god the list can go on.... If it's got a hook I'll love it 😂
So true, the atmosphere is everything and works perfectly in the nature, also the sound is like a force of nature. Black metal offers such a wide range of different styles, so you can optimize it for every mood. When it's summer and I want to listen to Black metal I often go with the greek bands and others with a more "warm" sound for example.
I love black metal because how rich is the genre. The are so many bands which are focused on the epic, other in the atmosphere, the lyrics, the melody. Of course the are genre that are more technical like death metal but black metal is like red wine, it is something that you must to add to your library. Thanks for all Quests. Greetings from Spain :)
I remember in the early 90’s in Melbourne we had an underground shop called “ Extreme Aggression “ and i would catch a train for an hour after night shift to buy new releases, fanzines , t-shirts ect. It was different back then as you relied on Fanzines for album reviews ect, ect to know what to purchase. I remember purchasing Empyruims “ A winter sunset “. ( my fav album ever, but I didn’t know that at the time of course ) from a discount bin at some large retail store. I don’t know how it ever ended up in that shop, but I found some gems like that, as this type of metal wasn’t very popular or heard of back then 👍
Started getting into extreme metal because of Opeth. When I discovered Emperor I instantly loved the atmosphere and beauty of the keyboards and guitar riffs amidst the extreme vocals and bombarding drumming. In the weekends when going home from a friends house in the middle of the night riding my bike through the dark, nothing beat the feeling of listening to songs like Towards the pantheon and I am the black wizards while riding home through the dark and the cold. Such an amazing majestic feeling which to this day I absolutely adore in black metal. Of course my black metal taste got broader and I listen to a lot of bands these days, but the feeling is the same as back then. I really feel happy listening to it, it makes me calm and got me through difficult recent years. But listening to black metal always makes me happy and forget about difficult periods.
Discovered that I LOVED Cosmic Keys To My Creations And Times way after listening to that album...now I can't go a day without listening to it haha. Got to see Emperor live here in LA last June...one check off the bucket list.
The best way I can describe the type of metal I’m mostly drawn to would be the band Fallujah. They’re prog but not corny, they’re technical but groovy as well & they definitely have some blackened influence especially earlier albums. I guess I like the crossroads where a lot of extreme metal subgenres meet.
I'd try and describe it, but you have perfectly. The way it transforms each genre is probably why I love it so much. I was drawn in by the imagery but fell in love with the atmosphere. I'll avoid going heavy here, but black metal made going through the worst time just that little bit better. The atmospheric side, especially, is pure catharsis.
What I mostly love black metal is atmospheric and paganic feeling. Listening some of those band middle of the forest just fits that environment. And I also like if those lyrics are based on real world. Like Bathory`s "Woman Of Dark Desires". Because the best horror stories are based on reality.
Black Metal is an awesome genre. Quite diverse. As the name suggests, I love Doom. But it's hard to pick just one style. Thrash, Death, Classic, etc. All great. Favorite Black Metal bands? I'm more into the old scholl like Bathory, Darkthrone, etc. Leviathan got me listening to more modern stuff. But there are so many great artists out there, thankfully.

My favorite sub genre is Melodeath. I have slowly began to appreciate black metal, but I do find a good chunk of them to sound the same. I love the progressive black metal or the experimental bands like Sigh and Enslaved. Do love some Emperor or Windir. But most seem too similar to me so far. I believe Melodeath is more musically rich and diverse.
I got into black metal only 4 years ago. After seeing a documentary about the band Mayhem. I then gave a full listen to their most popular album "de mysteriis dom sathanas" I thought it was okay. I discovered more black metal. Like emperor, satyricon, darkthrone. Like. I literally googled every famous black metal band. And listened to famous recommendations by chat gpt. and gave their most famous albums a listen. I love black metal soo much. I put in my headphones and listened to black metal and it felt SOO GOOD in contrast with the shit music I heard earlier. Like. I also found out that you grow more into black metal. And appreciate songs more the more you listen to it. It's the other way around when it comes to other music. I love those ice cold tremolo riffs and vocals that come from the grave. And atmospheres can be so nice and dark.

Black Metal is the "western" way to play melacholic songs for most places, most russian black metal bands were driven to exile at 2013 reforms, and still they play in eastern europe, and in iran there are black metal bands, and even some bhutanese have played in indian black metal projects
I’m not a fan of black metal but I do see the intriguing nature that people like, it’s to dark for me and I don’t like the pro satanic messages of black metal, but the way you described being transported, power Metal and progressive metal do that for me also psychedelic and doom
Yeah listen to Mare Cognitum's the Crimson Abyss & tell me it doesn't feel like you're floating in space & about to be spaghettified as a black hole sucks u in.
Favourite BM bands: Immortal Marduk Anaal Nathrakh Psychonaut 4 Thy Light Totalselfhatred Not my favourite subgenre (that would be Doom), but I love it for many of the reasons you listed, and because I think it'd one of the most personal and cathartic subgenres with DSBM especially being a great tool for the artist to simply get put their feelings and explain what they're going through if they struggle to talk about it normally.
though I consider myself a Christian, I'm still drawn to atmospheric & regular vocal blackmetal because it reminds me of how I'm involuntarily chained to my undesired existence as a human being - 4ced to choose either good or evil, even when I don't want to make any choice. though I keep blackmetal in my subconscious - don't buy n2 evil 100% of the time, at least blackmetal is very honest - having the guts to choose 1 side, where as I cannot. humanity was forced on me, as a sentient being, why should choose either or ? I still struggle with that as a Christian. should I be punished by God as he sends me to hell for not being 100% loyal to him, then I ask : what kinda loving god would send people to hel for not whole - ly accepting hime ? if u ask me, that's still a disturbing god to me
Black Metal is by far the worst genre in metal. 1. Trash musicians 2. Trash vocals 3. Garbage production 4. Corny lyrics 5. Same riff the entire song .

I love those ice cold tremolo riffs and vocals that come from the grave. And atmospheres can be so nice and dark.
I like progressive black
Melodic black
Symphony black
Folk black
Just black I like some but not as much as the mixes I just said
I like Emperor , Summoning , Bal-Sagoth, Alcest , Illnath , cradle of filth , dummu Borgir , carpathian forest , agathodaimon, Bathory , Agalloch , Aquilus , behemoth , rotting Christ etc
i listen to mostly atmospheric black metal (agalloch mostly) and the early katatonia / opeth albums
not really related, but I'd love to see a cannabis corpse ranking ❤❤❤
I just like the good quality sound Black Metal, like "Sons of Northern Darkness". What albums similar to that one would you recommend me please?
First id check out the solo projects of abbath and demonaz and then some other melodic bm bands like old mans child, sacrementum, dissection and lord belial
@@Questformetal Thank you! I'll check those bands !
My top 3
1. Death Metal
2. Thrash Metal
3. Deathcore
4. Etc
But this month, I started to find out the best Black Metal bands, I am interested.
Inquisition is my favorite black metal band after finland's HORNA🇫🇮🤘
Black Metal is remnants of the dying world of Rock n Roll
Yeah listen to Mare Cognitum's the Crimson Abyss & tell me it doesn't feel like you're floating in space & about to be spaghettified as a black hole sucks u in.
this video is so based omg
Favourite BM bands:
Immortal
Marduk
Anaal Nathrakh
Psychonaut 4
Thy Light
Totalselfhatred
Not my favourite subgenre (that would be Doom), but I love it for many of the reasons you listed, and because I think it'd one of the most personal and cathartic subgenres with DSBM especially being a great tool for the artist to simply get put their feelings and explain what they're going through if they struggle to talk about it normally.
though I consider myself a Christian, I'm still drawn to atmospheric & regular vocal blackmetal because it reminds me of how I'm involuntarily chained to my undesired existence as a human being - 4ced to choose either good or evil, even when I don't want to make any choice. though I keep blackmetal in my subconscious - don't buy n2 evil 100% of the time, at least blackmetal is very honest - having the guts to choose 1 side, where as I cannot. humanity was forced on me, as a sentient being, why should choose either or ? I still struggle with that as a Christian. should I be punished by God as he sends me to hell for not being 100% loyal to him, then I ask : what kinda loving god would send people to hel for not whole - ly accepting hime ? if u ask me, that's still a disturbing god to me
Obsequeiaieiaiea!
I love Black Metal but I guess Progressive Metal is my favorite of course several black metal bands fit here.
Black Metal is by far the worst genre in metal. 1. Trash musicians 2. Trash vocals 3. Garbage production 4. Corny lyrics 5. Same riff the entire song .
Bahahaha
I could forgive all of that if it didn’t have the pro satanic nonsense
@@hank35682 the Satanic shit just comes across as corny to me tho . Like it just seems like they are nerds trying to acts scary lol
@@ThePartyyChat that’s also true 😆
@@ThePartyyChat the way Black Sabbath and Dio did it, it was tasteful, burning down churches and telling people how much you love satan is beyond cringe and just shows how pathetic and desperate for attention a person can be
