      Idk if underappreciated, I remember growing up in the late 90s early 2000s and it was played a ton, what I admit is (for context I grew up in spain so most people can't understand partially or fully the lyrics of non-spanish songs on the first couple of runs) that the lyrics get kinda overshadowed by the super hyped up music, so they end up just sounding like hype up feel good bands, then you read the lyrics and the downpour and retrospection starts.

      Like every "punk type" band ( this is californian punk rock) mostly because musically that's " simple" and "screaming" and that their texts are too " straightfoward" but i'm what "punk" is in my country "france" we have the same with "french punk" for exemple "berrurier noir: Helenne et sang" who is in short a girl who have been raped in a bar and police don't do much so she go "hunt" her rapers but it's her who is framed for that...! Punk is some sort of " rage"!

    • @IceMetalPunk
      @IceMetalPunk 3 года назад +1

      @@ScrewFearMe My point still stands: these aren't new ideas. It's not since the 60s. In the 60s, people thought the youth wasn't disciplined enough "like they were in the 40s", and in the 40s, people thought the youth wasn't disciplined enough "like they were 40 years ago". Culture changes, what's normal and acceptable changes, and generally people have a hard time with that, so they decide the differences are bad and a result of either inconsiderate youth or bad parenting leading to inconsiderate youth. In reality, we shouldn't expect the culture of 2021 to match the culture of 1970, not only in music, media, and fashion, but in language, acceptability, and cultural norms as well. And likewise, we shouldn't expect the culture of 2041 to match 2021 either, etc. Culture changes, and that's both inevitable and not inherently a bad thing. We just need to be able to adapt with it, otherwise we get stuck in the past, comparing current culture to "the good old days" which often weren't really good anyway. Rose-colored glasses and all.

    This song hits pretty hard. We've all got infinite potential to realize our dreams and be whatever we want... life happens, most of us give up and settle. Drop out, have a couple of kids, commit suicide, stay home and smoke a lot of pot. The Offspring lyrics are some of the best out there. And all of their songs are catchy as hell. This video was also pushing serious boundaries for the time it was created. The full greenscreen CGI room, the morphing, editing dozens of scenes together and overlaying them like that... that was seriously difficult at that time.

      Pretty Fly was always a strange one from them. It doesn't fit the general tone of their other songs.

    There's only one thing to say about Offspring. They deliver it to your face hard, no sugar coating. You either like it or not. Pretty much, they hit the nail, right on the head. Kind regards and stay safe.

    You got the message loud and clear. Punk/hardcore songs get straight to the point. Whatever the lyrics are about. The offspring are an iconic band of the 90’ in which they paved the way for indie labels and the bands on those labels to be noticed by the mainstream. these musicians could actually make a living at playing punk/alternative without having to worry about getting signed by a corporate rip-off record label. You can thank Bad Religion mostly for the breakthrough in indie music distribution.🤘❤️🇨🇦🥁

    They are great live, but bands that play their own instruments are usually the best live. Most of their songs have good messages, or are just bloody classics XD Thank you for listening to The Offspring and I always find it funny when you haven't heard of artists that I know of as famous XD Take care of yourself too please, Mate

    The lead singer reminds me of a young Gavan O'Herlihy (superman 3). “Why Don’t You Get a Job”, “Pretty Fly For a White Guy”, “Original Prankster”, and “Got to Keep Them Separated” are their more popular songs.

    The start riff and harmony is taken from The Buzzcocks 'Lipstick' and Magazine's 'Shot by both sides'. The Offspring took a lot of influence from band like 'The Damned' and 'The Buzzcocks' being the more overlooked side to UK Punk rather than the heavily managed and promoted Pistols.

    This song is from the early 2000s. there was a trend back them for rock bands to make songs about dysfunctional families and broken homes, if not in the lyrics, at least on the videos.
    Other examples are:
    Papa roach - broken home
    Staind - fade
    Staind - for you
    Blink 182 - stay together for the kids
