From A Black Man in America: When she died, maybe you Irish may have not known, so many of us Black people were deeply hurt, we mourned. We saw her on television first , we saw her in her glorious power on late night shows, and on music channels, this clear voice like water and crystal. We saw a warrior of a people who have fought centuries for dignity and a proud place in the world. A warrior Queen, only made mad by the jackals against justice. Now, I am so proud that members of the Irish government can clearly call out an extermination of a people, no matter whether they are of a different faith or a half hue skin different from you. She is a shining example of your great people, from those small islands. She and Ireland continue to prove that it isn’t about the hectares you stand upon, but the principle you stand upon that make you important.
We find it disturbing that right now it is acceptable to kill all those people by people forgetting they are killing just that people. We use to many labels made to divide and belittle people and forget the endless similarities and sameness we truly are. It is only when we were children we would all play and have the same habits and unite until we grow and the labels start to divide us.
That's great to hear. Our irish mother always taught us to stand against oppression wherever we find it. In the 80s we matched for South Africa to end apartheid and now we fight for Palestine 🇵🇸
She so did tell the truth but her poor tormented soul was troubled by her childhood upbringing. No one means any harm by saying this. May her soul find peace at last.
“I love my boy and that’s why I’m leaving/I don’t want him to be aware that there’s any such thing as grieving.” This song is heart wrenching, especially now, knowing what she went through with her younger son.
And nothing has changed since she sang this - just got worse. Sinead, so brave, so beautiful, so talented, so fierce - RIP with your beloved son Shane.
@@BridgeandTunnelScooterClub she'd like that very much - to be heard and believed, now I hope you use your voice and yeah, some will only hear blah blah, just keep speaking the truth ~
This is what empathy sounds like. A sound too painful to be anything less than beautiful. Sinead was too empathetic to live a long life in a cruel world. All we can do now is carry her spirit like a torch in the dark, lighting our way through dangerous days.
Just heard about her passing. I listened to this album so often that I have all of the songs memorized. This one and "Three Babies" were my favorites. May she Rest in Peace. She was amazing.
After decades and decades since my love affair began with Sinead, and even though it's been some years of not hearing some of her songs I can still sing them along with all of them word for word still. So much love.
"The truth is a sharp spear that flies home and misses not..." A quote from KING SOLOMON'S MINES by Henry Rider Haggard, but it will work equally well here. RIP, my dear Sinead, you were one brave soul and you pulled your weight, and then some... wish I had met a gal so idealistic in my days of romance and poetry. Damn, I'll miss you... you were SO F#%ING BRAVE!
My brother introduced me to this album on a road trip in the early 90's. I put the walkman headphones on and let the pure sweet power of Sinead's voice wash over me as I watched the Arizona landscape go by.
I still can't believe she's gone. My 7 year old daughter walked into the kitchen and asked me why I was crying. I was like, someone died, you didn't know them . . . It was such a shock . . .
She was an awesome person and artist ....she knew all along even as a young girl about this world ..thankfully .we have her music that will live forever

A sad thing that Sinead left the world as young as she was. :( While I haven't heard all of her music, I can appreciate that she made some stunning music contributions in her time. I plan to get hold of at least one of her biography books when I next can. Hoping she is now at peace also.

A powerful statement, the principle you stand upon is what makes you important. Love that. A proud Irish man here.

No other words required Astrid. Your words are precious and accurate 😢❤
Yes, I fully agreed. I am hoping that Ireland will rename the Dublin airport to Sinéad instead.❤

As the decades have gone by, this has become her most covered song. It's her best protest song. RIP, Sinead. You were a national treasure.

Thank you Sinead for being yourself in a world where that is in your words "digging your own grave" You will be truly missed😢
One of the best things she wrote....such a fierce & fragile soul!
This was one of the first songs that politicized me as a teenager. Rest in power, Sinéad. Thank you for forging a new path.
“These are dangerous days… to say what you feel is to lay your own grave” ❤️😢

When I was 16 in the early 90’s I cried the first time I heard this song. Literally. I’ll never forget it. RIP to a musical legend and social pioneer.

I've known how to play this song for years. Lately I can't get to the end without my voice cracking and something getting in my eye.
One of her lesser-known but brilliant songs. Her beautiful voice and spirit will be missed. RIP Sinead
Ironic how we’re again in the very same boat once again. We humans seem to NEVER learn anything. She was a force that changed my thinking forever. ❤️
When did we get out of that boat?

Sad all week because of her passing. There is a hole in the world where she once was. This song slays me.❤🌈
Me too. I'm still cracked open.
I can honestly say I felt the same way -- that the balance of good vs. evil in the world shifted that day.
