I am currently raising crickets, and although insects are fantastic, they aren’t an answer to a food crisis. Why? Because they still have to eat food, primarily grains, in order to grow efficiently. I am only a hobbyist, so mine are fed high quality dry cat food and carrots.

Probably by freezing. That's an easy way to kill insects in bulk without damaging the bodies. All of the guides I've seen on cricket farming suggest freezing the crickets overnight then blanching them in boiling water to sterilize them.
