No it is beautiful from start to finish. And no if it were the other way around it would be the same outcome. I fucking love this couple and Macron is I have to say a new idol of mine. Now that there is a true honorable man who stuck to his word even back when he was younger he told her he was gonna marry her and boy he came back years later and actually did it. Their story was very beautiful because this here was a very strong couple that stuck even despite all the hardships that is amazing. When it is actual true love and two people actually love one another all else is irrelevant age, gender, religion etc.

How is their story beautiful when they pursue their own happiness at the expense of others??? Correction people would still feel the same as I told you in an above comment if the genders were reversed and all the other details were untouched. secondly get facts right he was 15 when he started the affair not 16 and even if he was 16 he would be actually 1 year above France's legal age of consent also reality check age 16 is actually okay in most parts of the world as most countries have their ages set at 16 including the united states I am assuming you are from the USA several states have their age at 16 a few at 17 and another handful at 18. Texas off the top of my head is 17 and I come from one of the many states where it is 16 at.
and ironically My own mother and father can fall into an example although to less an extreme as my father was much younger. My mother met him at 16 when he was around 24 or so. So in reality in most places 16 would either be exactly at or slightly above the age of consent in a given place.
