Why demolish the stacks? The power plant has reached the end of it's useful life. It is not efficient enough to be beneficial to the community anymore. Upkeep on the stacks is very expensive and in the long run cheaper and much safer to remove them.
How does this raise money? It costs for experts to demolish them and haul the debris away. Guess the railroad will be gone eventually. I used to hear the coal trains at night.
