  • LimX Dynamics, a Chinese company specializing in general-purpose robots, recently showcased their Biped Robot P1 in an impressive video update. This remarkable robot skilfully navigates the challenging terrain of Tanglang Mountain in Shenzhen using Reinforcement Learning, a technique similar to pet training. Through rewards and penalties, the robot adapts to external stimuli, including obstacles and uneven ground. For those who recall the iconic AT-ST walkers from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, the Biped Robot P1 bears a striking resemblance. These bipedal robots evoke memories of the Ewok attack scene, where the adorable yet resourceful Ewoks took on the Imperial forces. As we celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Return of the Jedi, let’s appreciate how technology, like the Biped Robot P1, continues to push boundaries and captivate our imaginations.

I wish they made a smaller version for universities or schools. 😢

100m record is an embaresment for robotic running, cheetah was tethered but really we can do better.

Thank you very much for the comment! I think the faster robots go, the more complex and fast reacting the algorithm needs to be in order to control small movements and keep balance. Fast processors are required with multiple torque sensing motors and precise gyroscopes. I am sure as research goes on, new methods will be developed and improve the overall performance. The latest GPU from NVidia will certainly help in this quest.
