Editing note: I made a mistake and called the "Ricasso" of the sword the "Tang".
The tang is inside of the grip, the ricasso is below the tang and not covered by the grip of the sword.
1000 apologies, I shall die in shame for my transgression.

"A stronger body is a better fighting body." This was perfect. I think too many in the SCA/HEMA sphere ignore this. That part at the end about health is your single best bit here. Good solid rapier basics and I enjoyed the video but your ending on health was excellent.

Thank you so much! this has been amazing as a beginner, and I do not feel completely lost. This has been great, and again I thank you.

Hi Milli! can you give any info or make an info or where to get gear/a training weapon for a starter / beginner and maybe go over what each piece is or what you need cause ive been looking into it and I kinda have an idea but Im still a noob to alot of SCA stuff. Thanks for this video btw I watched it with my pops and it was very informative this is what were looking to get into. Cheers!

I'll work on making a video covering that!
Initially, I feel like good starter gear for fencing is to grab a mask from blue gauntlet or an equivalent fencing mask, a economy sword from darkwood armory or Castile armory, I recommend 42 in long at least, and a gorget from Zen warrior, but if you have a little bit more money buying one from That Gal gorgets is better. Darkwood sells blue gauntlet masks and that gal gorgets, and if you go to a big event like Gulf wars, pennsic, or War of the Rams darkwood tends to go to those and you can actually pick up the equipment in person. They do sell out quick though, so it's best to get there early.

For your body, you can use ring mesh brand chainmail shirts under anything, but they are expensive. They also run small so I definitely would buy a size up. A classic Olympic fencing jacket is legal in the SCA for the punch resistant stuff but they are hot and super uncomfortable. Three layers of 5oz linen consistently passes the punch resistance test, so if you get a tight weave linen and make a t-shirt out of it, you can wear that under any SCA garb and you'll be good to go.
You can also use that same linen and thickness to make a back of the head hood that attaches to the mask, I'll definitely make a video on how to do that but all you have to do really is cover the back of your head. What I did was take a piece of paper and trace out the general shape I wanted against my mask and then I cut out that shape with some linen and sewed it on by hand. It's not super complex, but the back of the head does have to be covered unfortunately.
For gloves you can use rose pruning gloves that you can buy at the hardware store or landscaping store, but honestly I really prefer the calf skin gloves from darkwood.
