Working as an engineer for 35 years in Bay Area, I respectfully disagree to KC's point about US will not be technical dominance in long term. You really need to understand how technology are developed. All new technology are created from very basic knowledge and the pool of knowledge were accumulated years over years and decades over decades. For example, AI's chip are based on apparel processing, hardware know how, driver's expertise and IC packaging. Although these are not advance skillset, but in order to have a great AI chip, you cannot miss any of these elements. So, the next new good technology will ALWAYS depend on how big the knowledge pool and talent you own. By far, US's technical knowledge pool "far" exceeds all countries in the world combined. So even in the long term, I think US will still make other countries difficult to catch up and I won't bet on lagging US's technology. In my opinion, KC needs to be more humble when talking about knowledge domain that he does not know much.
Don't forget US has the most money to buy off any new born technology also.
