Tool is an unique band, they believe no one in the band is more important than the other members, so the singer just another instrument blending with the music, they experiment with this a lot.

This song introduced me to Dr Karl Jung and his Shadow Complex theory...after much reading, thoughts and the odd magic mushroom I can honestly say the man was truly onto something. His works have improved my life tenfold and I now understand myself and cope better with everything life throws at me, in a healthy and positive way. Just as an example, one thing Dr Jung felt was best for people suffering from depression was to go out into nature, get out in the forest and observe what is around you. This forces the soul to reconnect with nature and by fark it works...try and be depressed when there's a mumma and baby deer bouncing around you. X

You should check-out the awesome cover of this song by O'Keefe Music Foundation. Teens and pre-teens making this song their own. These kids are amazing with lots of arrangements of mostly heavy metal songs.

Tool never loses the musicality of their songs, but they do go right up to the line ;) This is one of their most accessible songs, wait until you hear more :))
    Nice rxn, thx!

Forget all the other recommandations if it's not involving tool. (haha)
I find it always funny (in a nice way) for new people to discover tool's music, trying to bob their head along and discovering it's not really working out very well.
But there's always a steady puls going on through the endless timesignature changes, once you feel that puls in the background, you can bob your head in that pulsating rythm.
Loved the reaction, don't hold yourself, go mad, get into that shadow that you definitly have !

Good job. Don't do music videos, just audio only. Trust me.

Agree. Their videos almost never have anything to do with the song and can be really distracting.

06:36 Ah, ya caught it, that *really* special moment in a really special song over all. But, yeah, that moment always gets me at 06:36. Like riding a wave then kicking into high-gear.

Pretty spot on, but he's going a step further and hoping for a massive evolutionary physical change. That's were 46 & 2 comes into play. Humans have 46 & 1 chromosomes and this is my interpretation of the song, but I think to achieve 46 & 2. You have to delve into the areas of yourself where most don't want to, because they can be traumatic. It's a catch 22, because in order to evolve you have to go to those dark places and open old wounds, or scabs.
Take care and have a great week!✌

Oh, by the way, always watch a lyric video when available.... Maynard's lyrics are deep.

it was manson or tool, that said their music is supposed to create tension, so you don't know what's next. also this song is influenced by Carl Jung, and his teachings about the shadow self, and how to embrace it and add it into your life.

      @854medic 3 года назад

There’s a pretty good explanation here of how Jung’s original theory was expanded on by Drunvalo Melchizedek.

6:24 - OK .. just for this comment I will give you an Thumbs Up..
Unfortunately I can't give more than one, but I hope you'll continue the TOOL-track and I can give you more. :)
My opinion is that you should go back to beginning and follow their music through the ages and hear how they have evolved.
    But you do you. :)
    **EDIT**
They have all their music on RUclips now.. So you can go to the very first song and follow them up to the very latest one..
Without the 13 year gap between 10000 days and Fear Inoculum.....
