Very well considered review and well done you choosing to drive in "English winter" conditions. I have only been had (it was in in the rain) once in my E34 M5 and it was by a GTR which absolutely left me like I was standing still after we got to to interesting miles per hour (I bottled).
i have exactly the same setup, Michelin 4s turns the car very street friendly ,live with it a little longer its actually a timid monster. maintenance is reasonable but cant be compared to a corolla
Nissan GTR is without a doubt the best car I've driven and I've been lucky and driven some really nice cars such as Mercedes C63/E63, Audi RS5, Aston Martin V8 Vantage (biggest disappointment for me) and Jaguar XKR.
On our B roads I think your best weapon is a small classic GT. It's nice being able to just be on full throttle a lot of the time and not have to slow down to let the other person come you way. Also when you do it's cool if your classic GT is a real GT to simply mount the grass verge at full speed. I do that in my MGB GT all the time when I don't want to slow down but then I have ground clearance that modern GT's don't. Taken it off road in Scotland a few times with no problems. The exhaust can scrape sometimes but I would like to move it somehow to prevent that. Might ad a skid plate as well for rocks and branches. Nice thick deep side walls really helps and having tough leaf springs and cast iron Armstrong shocks are indestructible. Or at least so far.
The engine is weak balls so just leave it in second and third and floor it. I'm having a rover VVC K series engine put in which should transform the car to a real weapon on B roads. Don't treat it like a women's car though it's a car that needs to be man handled. The steering is heavy but it will give you all the feedback you could want. It will keep you on your toes more so then most cars. Very easy to go past the cars limit if you aren't careful which makes it a fun car to drive if you like a mental and physical workout. Another great car for B roads is a mini with a nicely tuned engine.
I drove a nissan gtr/ferrari 430/aston martin vantage all around donington and the gtr smashed it ...aston was nice but the Ferrari was bit of a let down ....id love to own a gtr for my channel 1 day
+Rev & Redline Keep working at it and it may haopen! Worked for Gaskings. Ferraris are great but need to be driven a certain way to get the best from them. Totally different experience to a GTR
Any of the more expensive cars on those super car days are restricted. I've done a few of them , either they force you to short shift or the cars are rev limited ...a 430 won't get anywhere near a GTR but I bet if you were on your own and ringing it out to 8000 rpm you would have a different opinion ...as a side note , if anyone gets the vouchers as a present I recommend doing a drift day, you can properly ring the cars neck and it's way more fun
dagnut ....Got a drift day coming up my frined in a skyline 😉.... The Ferrari seemed limited but the gtr the dude let me kill it kept telling me to push it more . doing a ton around corners and the thing was stuck to the road ....if you get chance check out my channel and let me no what u think plz
I watched a standard one go down santapod , the yr they came out, a few yrs ago , and think it did the standing quarter in , 10. Something seconds , my Honda super blackbird 1100 did a similar time, so on that basis decided it was a rapid time , and let’s be honest , everyone no’s its a usable Weapon .,,, cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
I've been a massive fan of the skyline all my life, but I just can't seem to love the looks of the R35. Does it look better in person, do you really care about its looks once you start driving it?
It definitely looks better in person, the colour plays a big role for me with this car as well. For me I have to either have a grey, black or white one
The Evo X is more of a driver's car than you would think. Interior quality is poor but you could have both cars and enjoy each for different things. The Elise of course is a much purer driving experience but also much more compromising
@@JayEmmOnCars thanks for the reply. I own an Evo x dual clutch and often find myself looking at the Elise. You are welcome to do a video on it when I have finished fixing it up
@@JayEmmOnCars I did I found them very good. I watch all your content. Next time you get a go in one have a look into the AYC. I have a video explaining what it is and how it works. It would be interesting to see if you can feel it working next time you have a go in one
95 octane is the *lowest* rated fuel you have? And you have 102? I'm moving to England! But then I look at the weather and maybe not. New haircut, snazzy shirt - someone's been reading the comments from the moaners? Good vid.
+Trey Quattro Thanks! So our rating system is not the same as the USA, our 95 is equivalent to USA 91. Nearly every fuel station carries 97-99 too. 102 is hard to find here, easy to find in Germany. For this video we used Octane Booster. Oh, and the prices here are a bit scary
Trust me when you see the price of fuel, road tax and insurance here you will want to stay in the US of A also you can laugh at the silly stuff your leader says ours is just depressing to listen too...
+amcluesent I have yet to get behind the wheel of an 86 on proper roads, that should be happening soon, the major issue I hear with the stock 86 is the deliberately low grip rubber
Iv drove the gtr around donington race track. Is was dry but dam that thing stuck to the road unlike anything iv ever driven ...I really like both the 86 and the gtr but for me the gtr wins all around but it would be good to see ....I hope to have a gtr on my channel 1 day
You would be left in the dust. I love the toyobarus but as good as they are they don't hold a candle to the speed of a GTR - regardless of road. There are very few scenarios where a GT86 could keep up with one of these. And the GTR very much encapsulates the philosophy of excellent handling - it isn't just some kind of drag strip hero - if it was then it wouldn't consistently perform so well on numerous tracks (namely the rather obvious Nur).
Hardly anyone keeps the Primacy tyres, have Hankook Ventus V12 on mine. It's the torque dip either side of 3,500rpm that lets down the GT86 on the road. On the track, keep the FA20 spinning above 5,000.
Nice review. I’ve had mine for almost 9 years now and just love it for it’s mechanical nature and ‘modability’. It never ceases to leave me smiling.

+Kuddlesworth NA I do know someone with an MGB GT so when the weather clears up I will try and get it for review

I wanted to see a GTR in silver. I got some glimpses.
+scruffy wuffy Frankly it was grey rather than silver on this day.
Have a look at my original review of this car and you'll see it a little cleaner

+Rev & Redline Nothing wrong with that. Historically I'd be more of a Ferrari or Aston man but the GTR deeply impressed
Enjoy your reviews intelligent informed explanatory 👌

Hi Jay how would you compare an evo x to a lotus Elise? I know completely different cars but I'd love to hear your opinion on it

Not my type.

That shirt.... 😂
little to big and service costs kill this car!
+jonny jones We shot another video on the topic of running costs as it is definitely a topic that crops up whenever people talk about these cars

Interested to see that one... its the reason I bought an Exige rather than one of these beasties.
will have to look at that video mate"
On those roads, I reckon my GT86 could keep up. The GTR is all about taking off with the launch control
+amcluesent I have yet to get behind the wheel of an 86 on proper roads, that should be happening soon, the major issue I hear with the stock 86 is the deliberately low grip rubber

Can't compare lotus elise to a gtr35, nothing alike and gtr would be much better on that dry road, gtr just not for you
You guys are so impressed by your B roads. They're boring. If you came to California and spent a day in the mountains you'd lose your mind.
I've been to California. Nice roads indeed. Stupid speed limits.
@@JayEmmOnCars Best roads you driven? Maybe could do a video on that.
