You provide an excellent source of Kokanee fishing information. Your videos are always interesting to watch with a ton of useful, intelligent and down to earth, hands on info. Thank you
Just watched for, probably the 4th time! This time, because I might be launching out of Keller, tomorrow morning, though on an 18 foot Crestliner. I'm going through your Roosevelt videos again!
Tyler: looking forward to the series. Love the channel and your enthusiasm and scientific approach to the sport. Great fun. If your ongoing series is like this one, it's a keeper. Thanks so much.
Great interesting info on roosevelt and kokanee. Great fishery and place to live. Answered a lot of questions I had on kokanee in Roosevelt. Keep up the great content. Caught some nice fish this new years at Keller.
So stoked to watch this new series and come along for the ride Tyler! Always really enjoy hearing your science-based knowledge and experience in your videos. Lake Roosevelt looks like such a rad place to fish.
Such an interesting mystery. Well, I'm heading over to LR on 5/27 as most folks are heading home. Camping at KF for a few days. Looking at that graphic at 7:30 mark on your video it looks like the mouth of the Sanpoil is a common concentration area in all three time ranges. Due to low snowpack in the upper basin there is a very different pattern of seasonal regulation of lake levels by the Corps at GC dam. So, who knows, I may have to move around...gonna try not to suck at kokanee fishing. ---------> Have a great trip and gathering at Whiskeytown, should be fun. Whiskeytown is on my bucket list.
Good day Tyler, I really enjoy your content and your scientific explanation and opinions on fishing. I am looking forward to your vids on fishing across America and see you will be coming here in CA. Guess you are not fishing Tahoe but would like to hear what you think of the lake if you get a chance to take a look at it. It does have a very good Koke fishery.
Just a thought for your consideration, Tyler. Regarding the bygone hatchery program on LR (not that I miss it, competition may have limited growth in the "big-uns," though food seems relatively abundant(?). Depending on the size of the hatchery fish when introduced, especially if they were smallish, I wonder of if: a) there was a lot of predation, and b) many of them entrained down to Roofus Woods (i.e. they became triploid rainbow and walleye food) or were pumped into Banks Lake. Being small they may not have been as capable of fighting high flows. Also, being hatchery bred, could there have been a (lethal) period of disorientation adding to assorted/additional vulnerability. Not the first hatchery strategy that's failed. But I believe hatcheries can help if thoroughly and scientifically planned. Thanks for your thoughts and contents as always.
Good educational piece on kokes. Thanks for sharing that.I was wondering if you know anything about tribal gill netting on the San poll and Spokane Arm to remove walleye? There was some recent debate on a local fishing report page about it. Would be nice to know what the answer is about that if its even true? Thanks again for the videos.
I'm in SW Colorado near Durango. Never got into the kokanee thing. Something about being stuck on a boat going in circles 😂 I'd rather be by myself wading on the river. I have friends that go a lot though. Used to be vallecito and lemon were really good for kokanee but not so much anymore. Nighthorse and Navajo seem to be the spots now. I know whenever they go everyone catches their 10 fish limit. Never very big, about 14 inches on average. I guess there just isn't enough food source to grow big ones.
@@spiltmilt You will miss beautiful Lake Tahoe! I love your videos and learn a lot from you. I enjoy using Paulina’s tackle as well and they are located not too far from here in Reno.
Where are you planning to go in Idaho for your "Kokanee Across America"? Lake Pend Oreille? Dworshak? or maybe more south like Lucky Peak, Arrow Rock, Anderson Ranch? other? I'd be interested to see if you can catch any in some of of the southern reservoirs... seems like the fishing has slowed down there over the years.
Me before you pass through my area: "I hope you're up for a CHALLENGE. Ain't no cakewalk in MY local fisheries" Me after you pass through my area: "Yeah well I never really tried for kokanee anyway, always more of a bass guy... How much is autopilot again?"
Do you have a idea in Idaho you plan to go?? Been fishing Idaho for years if you are looking for spots. FYI love you videos since my dad mentioned them and they have helped exponentially in my Kokanee chasing.
Tyler , what you do with a bunch of kokanee when you are out on the road , assuming you are camping ? Catch and release most ? Smoke them? Do you have a portable freezer?
I’m from Utah and lived here my whole life I legit thought that flaming gorge size Kokanee were just normal Kokanee size until I got into it more and was shocked to see a lot of places they’re like 12 to 14 inch

So if Kokanee are notorious for going over dams, these mysterious Kokanee could be originating from Kootenay and Upper Arrow lakes? Not sure of the size of the Kokanee there and why these are large in the Columbia. That’s my guess where they’re coming from 😊

Awesome. Super glad to see salmon and trout content again. Can’t wait to follow your Kokanee across America series.

I can't wait for the kokanee across America series!

Great information on Lake Roosevelt kokanee populations. Thanks. Looking forward to following you on your travels across the country.
Didn't even know there are kokanees in Lk Roosevelt. The lineage question is super interesting, thanks for discussing this!
Thank you for what you do. I always learn something from your videos which translates to fish in the boat. Keep doing what your doing.

Amazing! I sure hope the Kokanee are indeed spawning and breeding.
That was very interesting. Nice koke also👍
Great video! And I have to thank you for your tips on catching brookies! Caught some beauties today under the ice up here in BC!
Excellent video. Super informational.
Roosevelt has been on my list for a while making it happen this year:) Nice Hawg! Crazy they get bigger than that!
Love and appreciate you sharing the research out there!
Wow great information, thanks for sharing that. I need to rewatch because I keep getting distracted watching your rods hoping for a takedown. lol
Thanks for the great information Tyler!

Very interesting video/info. Getting ready to make a trip over from the wast side.
Very useful information. Thanks!
I keep thinking, "If Bob Ross were a fisherman...."
love watching your video.
Cant wait to see the big Kokes you pull in Colorado. Im assuming you'll be over at Blue Mesa for that. Good luck on your journey.
Yup can't wait to go back. Graduated from Western State almost 15 years ago!
So awesome! 😀

I know both the tribes and WDFW are netting to remove Pike. I also can confirm that WDFW are releasing the Walleye. I'm not sure about the tribes.
@@spiltmilt thank you. Would I find that out by contacting wdfw? Do you happen to know someone I could ask?
Fascinating research! Where do you find all these studies?
I do a lot of digging through scholarly article and then reference cited literature from there.

I fish off my kayak in the mountains for kokanee in Truckee, CA. Any chance you are coming here during your tour? Would love to fish with you!
Don't have any plans to hit the Truckee area unfortunately.

Anderson Ranch was my initial thought as it has the largest fish but I know they've been scarce.
So good to see kokanee back on the feed!:)
Great video info. Slightly jealous of that rainbow you released.
Did Paulina Peak stop selling those rods? I was looking to pick up a second one but I don’t see them on their website anymore
I believe they are having the same supply chain issues everyone is having.
with as often as you are getting them on the turn or the speed change, do you ever troll in a serpentine track?
I never troll in a straight line

How big r they there?

Thinking of Anderson Ranch in late April if it is still kicking out big ones.
Nice i want to go 🎣
have you considered making merch a regular or semi regular thing? I know I would definitely pick up a hoodie and hat.
I used to have a merch store but didn’t like the vendor. Working on building a new store soon
Tyler , what you do with a bunch of kokanee when you are out on the road , assuming you are camping ? Catch and release most ? Smoke them? Do you have a portable freezer?
This is something I am still working out. Kokanee don't catch and release well. I've been looking into a small portable 12v freezer.
I hope Flaming George is on your list for some true trophy Kokanee.
Most definitely on the list

@@chubbrock659 it definitely has nice ones afraid if he went there we’d end up with a video of forty cutthroat four rainbow and two Kokanee

Yak Gear Fish Stick amzn.to/3qFZXN7
what are the best time of the day to fish for kokanee?
Morning and evening most of the time

Genetic studies have found some of these fish do originate from above the dams but not all.
when r u gonna b in Cali would love to join u
Not sure yet. Word is Berryessa isn't fishing as well so I might look at Whiskeytown.
@@spiltmilt yea only shaver have been producing limits(15"-17") jux a little bit of drive for me lol
What if they breed around a underwater spring or something really random and odd. Obviously it would be a perfectly placed anomaly.
I really enjoy you teaching fish habits along with how to fish. The more you understand the species the better angler you become. Thanks!
100% agree. An informed angler is a better angler. Fish smarter not harder.
Where are you going in California?
Most likely Whiskeytown
@@spiltmilt good choice…. Shasta is just up the road and is another good option for kokes. They just reintroduced them.
