I come back to this video and realize a few things. he is only 18 here, this is the best hes ever played this song and its a shame his talent didn't take him as far as it should've
Dude for real. How solid is this guy? He's so snappy and has insane control. Look at his left hand choke the crash for a split second. Few drummers have that kind of speed.
Matt Greiner is known as a cornerstone for this style of music and is one of the absolute most well known drummers and called one of the best, and I love him ...but Adam was easily right up there with him. I'm not going to say better because it's subjective, but imagine seeing the career your friend has as a drummer and you were in the same exact place he was and just as good, just to have shit luck take it away from you. I love Greiners podcasts they do with Adam,.
Weak song writing is the cuplirt here. Dude is a macine, one of the best in the genre. The song writing issue may not even fall on him, but he was in a band that made one good album, and couldn't follow up the magic, similar to I, The Breather.
@@josephwashington2096 y’all are insane he’s still one of the best drummers of all time and is chilling with the ghost inside on tour he’s been doing this shit since he was young give the man a break
I come back to this video pretty frequently because Adam is one of my favorite drummers to watch and to this day the fill at about 2:52 fucks me up every time I see it. Dude is insanely talented even way back then.
I have watched this video so many times, along with other videos of him playing this. This is truly a masterpiece... This is the best drum piece ever written. I said that 4 years ago, and my mind hasn't changed. And the fact that he is able to play at such a high tempo.. flawlessly... perfect technique.. add tons of visuals.. Adam Gray is my favorite drummer.
Danny Powers Nah, we’re not religious. We just love Jesus. There’s a difference ;) But you’re right to an extent - Christians should not be offended be “questionable” language. Cheers!
that brief half time groove at 1:08 makes me cry every time at how perfectly it fits into the song. like it is by far my favorite part of this whole song. very good drum writing
Nahhhhh, there's a fuckload of talent. Not saying there isn't honed skill, but someone could work their whole lives just as hard at drumming and not be able to touch the performance he layed down here as a teenager.
texas in july are in general such an underrated band. adam is one of the tightest drummers ive ever seen and should deserve way more recognition for his absolute beast playing
I like ABR more than TIJ so I like Matt more but saying Matt is a better drummer than Adam just proves you can't tell who actually is the better drummer in every aspect. Adam plays what Matt plays in ABR but not vise versa. Both insanely good drummers but Adam has more skills on the set all around.
I will say both are insane drummers and I hope to build my skill up to my potential, but saying that I can't tell who is the better drummer shows me you don't know how to keep your own opinion without trashing someone elses, both are equally awesome but in the end for accuracy and stronger chops I would have to say Matt is a winner in my books. Here is the part where we argue and such but I am going to save us the time... we both have separate opinions and we both believe they are great drummers so let us leave it at that!
its one thing to be an amazing drummer but to also jam like that is so wicked. he had a smile on hs face the whole time meaning he loves what hes doing. truly an inspiration
There are very few drummers that I REALLY enjoy watching and Adam is one of them, dude writes killer breakdowns has some crazy all over fills, blasts, plus mixes in stick tricks I've never seen anyone but him do. All while having fun even when there is small crowds like this. He just all around is the kind of drummer I enjoy watching and would kill to be half as good as
Back when they were still a smaller band and played shows at the Gibson House in Marlton, NJ I got to talk to him a couple of times. He's a genuinely awesome person too.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! and then God said let there be adam gray and he was drumming!!!!!! chez wiz this kid is nutz wish the new stuff still had this same punchy crazyness to it!!
I knew that I would favorite the video before it was even loaded :D Good to see Adam playing relaxed like that - I always felt like he's under pressure because he looked so tense but now he just purely enjoys :D and as if 2:39 wasn't the SMOOTHEST stick change EVER :D
It's amazing that a crowd doesn't get down for raw talent like this just because they probably have no clue who they are. Stupid. This is one of the best bands to come through in a lonnnnng time. Recorded their first EP when they were 15/16? Get real, you show me another band that's consisted of 19/20 year olds that's this talented.
13 years later and I'm STILL watching this video. Adam is an absolute master.
And he’s still playing it as clean as he is here!
10 years later and I Still come back to this video.
Same
Same
Same
Yea man it's good.
12 years now
I come back to this video and realize a few things. he is only 18 here, this is the best hes ever played this song and its a shame his talent didn't take him as far as it should've
Joey King same i wish he would play in another band

Definitely one of the cleanest and most precise pieces of metal drumming ever recorded.
I come back to this video pretty frequently because Adam is one of my favorite drummers to watch and to this day the fill at about 2:52 fucks me up every time I see it.
Dude is insanely talented even way back then.
I've probably given this video about 100 of it's views from trying to figure out a few of those tough fills and stuff lol
As someone who does not play drums, which of this fills is not tough?
One of the greatest demonstrations of all time. Still revisit this video monthly
same! this has to be one of the best live versions of this song ever captured on video
Well said, same here brother
After all these year, this is still my favorite AG video. Idk why. I just love the small crowd, sound of his kit and how nuts he is.
Still here
My personal favorite is Aurora at the purple door
just talked to this guy for like 2 hours, what a champ!
I've never seen the crowd stand so still especially for a song like this.
Always end up coming back to this video 12 yrs later
1:21 such a simple fill but so god damn clean
Dude chill with the language lol
i forgot everybody is religious here
Jambi705 fuck off with the pussyness
norcoriders99 you're right, my apologies ma'am
Danny Powers Nah, we’re not religious. We just love Jesus. There’s a difference ;) But you’re right to an extent - Christians should not be offended be “questionable” language. Cheers!
This literally put me in tears.
I get the chills every time I watch this
even the stick hitting the ground at 2:40/2:41 is on tempo. that just shows you how good Adam Gray really is.
do you remember where this video was taken by chance?
that brief half time groove at 1:08 makes me cry every time at how perfectly it fits into the song. like it is by far my favorite part of this whole song.
very good drum writing
2:41 It's funny. You can hear the drumstick fall, as if Adam counts in :)
Kalashnikow42 only Adam would be the one to accomplish that..! lol
Seriously how the hell are you this talented
By working.
Like, a LOT.
There are no talents here. Honed skills
I dont care 2:40 is the greatest thing since sliced bread and how about the stick hitting the ground was perfectly on-beat!
I watch this video like all the time lol
Keep in mind he is 18 in this video... wtf
@James Jones i guess with that knowledge, that thick 5 o'clock shadow makes sense at 18
ok. now hes just become my fav drummer
i wonder how many times he's played this song in his life
Enough to feel so comfortable playing it that when he loses his stick he calmly grabs another keeps going.
Yo dude I'm pretty sure he threw it on purpose. Check a few seconds before he probably cracked it and could tell it didn't sound right
I AM still here
2:47 that part sounded so siiiiick
I watch this when I’m on the stairmaster just to feel something
Matt Greiner 2.0
Adam Gray 1.0
well he is endorsed by greinerkilmer
Adam Kilpatrick so who's better? lol. I'm a huge fan of Matt but Adam is pretty damn good too. lol
He was taught by Matt
Aaron AltKid that’s funny, I know they’re friends and my buddy is teaching me drums so I thought that would be funny if Matt taught him 😂
You start your day right my friend
I like ABR more than TIJ so I like Matt more but saying Matt is a better drummer than Adam just proves you can't tell who actually is the better drummer in every aspect. Adam plays what Matt plays in ABR but not vise versa. Both insanely good drummers but Adam has more skills on the set all around.

This fine piece of gold here. Thank you my good sir
Killing it is a fucking understatement. Adam Gray is my new hetero man crush.
One of the reasons I got behind the kit is because of this video. Edit: Oh yeah, and dat snare.
what china is he using? I feaking love it
oriental trash china. probably 18"
Zildjan
@@shmoofgang lol
Adams stick control is next level
His face at 2:01

one of my favourite drummers right now :)
So effortless and skillful. Amazing drummer
Back when they were still a smaller band and played shows at the Gibson House in Marlton, NJ I got to talk to him a couple of times. He's a genuinely awesome person too.
first song I ever loved from them., :D
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
and then God said let there be adam gray and he was drumming!!!!!!
chez wiz this kid is nutz wish the new stuff still had this same punchy crazyness to it!!
Dude him and matt share all the same mannerisms when playing! its so funny! the body language, the facial expressions, everything!
That stick toss gets me everytime

Pretty damn amazing
I love the sound of that snare....
Adam Gray and Luke Holland have single handling got me into TIJ
I'm loving every song that I've heard so far
ive seriously watched this 30 times, only because he looks so fucking cool.
I could watch him drum for hours.
Man I love that snare
Love it how hes like 'jesus, this song isnt nearly hard enough.. ill throw in some shit difficult stick tricks aswell'
Sweet as fuck lol
Excellent drummer!
ADAM GRAY IS AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
2:02 Adam Grey was like ..someone moved?! did someone move?!! :o!
Just found my old comment. and still, they were about as subtle as a kitten. The band was more hyped than the crowd man
Haha I love his facial expression around 2:00 Just looking around as if to say, "oh, don't mind us!"
I love his right hand french grip blast beat style
so cooolllllll!!!!
when i saw then live i was moving all the time : P
well i have learned something today good sir or ma'am
Love the way he tosses the stick to the person in the crowd.
you want the stick?! Allright, let me just do that fill and a stick trick - Ok, here you go :D
*nobody picks up the stick* i would push everyone to pick it
2:50 to 2:55 is such a sick fill. holy crap
Ahh... I remember my first drum set:(
i almost crapped myself when i saw this...dude is ridiculous
I knew that I would favorite the video before it was even loaded :D
Good to see Adam playing relaxed like that - I always felt like he's under pressure because he looked so tense but now he just purely enjoys :D
and as if 2:39 wasn't the SMOOTHEST stick change EVER :D
This guy always Makes me want to play the drums lol. Like on the real this dude inspires me.

I think its a curse.
It's amazing that a crowd doesn't get down for raw talent like this just because they probably have no clue who they are. Stupid. This is one of the best bands to come through in a lonnnnng time.
