Very nice. I have an AL-1500 that I installed a full layer of sound dampening material to the inside of the amp. I also created a baffle to direct the heat and sound from the output of the blower back and away from the operating position. These two modifications combined SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the audible presence of the blower which were really one of the only concerns I had with the very solid amp. 73 de K5PO

These amp designs are are great and the fact that they are over 30 years old show just how good and reliable they are.
But after over 30 years they could use a little updating for 21st century.
A few simple updates to these amps would put them at the top of the heap in terms of value Vs. performance!

KC2QMA Agreed. Just the LEDs you added and some factory sound dampening would be great steps to freshen it up.

Nice video, John. Nice editing. I haven't looked at your other videos yet but, if you haven't done an in-depth review of your AL-1200, I'd love for you to do it.

I have an older AL1200 and I want to change the power connections to the blower fan. The instructions are not very clear as to which terminal connector strip wires need to be changed or moved at the inside rear of the amplifier
There is a terminal strip just inside under the on/off power switch 14:07 at the inside front of the amplifier
The instructions also mention that there are both Green and wires at the rear inside of the amplifier which supply power to the fan.
Maybe you can help me with this concern?

I wanted the AL-1500, but was able to get the ACOM-1500 much much sooner. I hope Ameritron gets themselves together soon. I prefer to buy American, but they just don't have any to sell at this time.

Greetings, I have an older AL-1500 and the T/R relay is giving me problems, it's the older open frame relay. I cleaned the contacts and ran well for a while but having hi SWR intermittent problems at times. If I tap the relay it works fine. Do you happen to know the relay part number so I can replace it ? I see your amp uses a board instead of an open frame relay. Tnx es 73 de WA4ONV.

Contact Ameritron I think i remember that they sell that relay board complete as a upgrade board for the older AL-82,1200,1500 amps. www.ameritron.com/custsupport.php.
If you just want to replaced just the relay the part# are at the bottom of the AL-1500 page. www.ameritron.com/Product.php?productid=AL-1500

Thank you very much OM, I really appreciate your help. I contacted Ameritron and they don't carry the open frame relay any more but they have an exact replacement, part number 408-6124 for only $6.64. I went ahead and ordered one. Shipping was more then the relay itself, lol. Best of 73 and many blessing to you and yours. Joe, WA4ONV
