  • Hi everyone. Susie here. Today I am starting my Pansy seeds hoping they will be blooming by the time I plant them out at the end of April or the start of May. I am hoping to enjoy these for at least a month until I start to plant up my containers with my summer annuals. Hope you enjoy!

I'm also in zone 4b southeast Idaho (high desert, very dry). I grew the frizzle sizzles last year and blue velvet. So gorgeous! They are overwintering in the back of my garage and still seem ok.

I just expanded my garden by 110sq ft with 2 cu. Yards of garden soil to plant other seeds totaling 100 more but I give away a bunch to help others and not waste plants.

Awesome you are so right! Starting mix is a bit of a gimmick. Most sees companies will even tell you not to feed anything untill you want that vegetative growth. Idk how my duck eggs always hatch without any Duck Starting Mix in them lol. And yeah I think the nitrogen makes them leggy and dampen off

Should i water the seeds daily? Keep them moist? Thats the only part that im confused about?

Yes. They can't dry out while they are germinating. I use a humidity dome and when I seed about 50% have germinated, I take the humidity dome off. They usually germinate within 7 to 10 days for me. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

So it's about 15 days now since I planted some pansy seeds & have kept the pots indoors. Now, little sprouts have started to come out. SHould I put them out in the sun for a few hours, or is it still too early for that? BTW, I'm in the SF Bay Area.

I would put them outside for about 1 hour the first day and then slowly increase the sun everyday, just so your little seedlings don't burn. If your temps are mild, it should be ok. Make sure to protect them for strong winds too. I am hoping to start hardening off mine about mid April, but I usually wait until the daytime temps are in the 50's. Thanks for watching

When I first started growing seeds indoors, I was nervous also. Now I just sow them and have fun. It doesn't always work out but it is a great learning experience. All 3 types of my pansies germinated. It took at least 7 days before I saw anything. Thanks for watching and happy seed sowing
