York is a trailer manufacturer. I was born in the late 40s and i can remember in the 50s seeing carriages and old busses in fields up and down the country. I think people got grants after the war for smallholdings keeping poultry ,pigs, mink , e.c.t. and market gardening. People lived in them and brought families up in them
Ahh that's makes sense.. I did wonder if that was just the manufacturer.. and yes I do know a few incidents of people keeping them around in fields, there is a old bud just down from there also.. was just curious to the story behind this one.. thanks for the info though! 🙂
You're absolutely right, it's an LCDR 4 wheel 3rd, probably from sometime before 1880, which is when the vertical strips below the waist rail began to be omitted. The bodies are built of teak, which is why so many survive to the present day in various locations. From its appearance, it looks pretty sound and eminently restorable.
@Phaaschh thanks for the information and confirming I thought as much! And hopefully the guy looks to restore it in the future.. can see it being used as a beach hut based on where it is
@@Thecheekyengine I'd really like to know where it has been since withdrawal from traffic. There's nothing on the Historic Carriages Register about it, and the condition suggests that it has been under cover, or at least roofed over. Personally, I'd love to see it restored and running on either the K&ESR or the Bluebell.
@Phaaschh yeah it really is a strange one.. without speaking to the owner I guess we won't know, was hoping someone in the groups would see it but no-one has replied but someone did say it only arrived last year, and yeah on the K&ESR would be perfect t restored although bluebell has more matching stock!
@Thecheekyengine Lighting Ridge out back NSW "Tram o Tel" is a motel with tram bodies for accommodation. Plus, some locals have them in their backyard used as garden sheds, etc.

Beautiful old rail car. Would have made a very nice little beach cottage.
Yes it would have done and I reckon it still will at some point soon!
My old town we had half a dozen trams from the 50s. 800 km from where they originally worked.
Ahh that's cool, would love to see that!!
