Gravesend 49th Model Railway Show || All Gauges Go!
Following on from previous comments regarding the pronunciation of Wisbech, a few years ago Rich Hall the American comedian performed at the King's Lynn Corn Exchange. As is usual in comedy shows, there were jokes told about nearby towns. He noted that Wisbech did not have a BEACH and not much WIZZ either!
Haha fantastic 😂
@MervynPartin Personally, I think it is a really nice little town.
@@captaintorch983 I agree with you. The town centre was pretty good and my younger son once attended the College there. It definitely needs a main line railway service.
Hi fella, good report, only marred by0 your mis-pronounciation of Wisbech, historically pronounced Wizbeach. I know others have pointed this out to you already but it's a point worth noting when talking about a place you've not heard of before is to research local and historical dialects. Good luck with your channel and see you again soon. Cheers, Jon B.🤓
Thanks Jon yes Iesson learnt, TBF I would annoy me too if I heard someone constantly pronounce something wrong 😅
Trevor's bigger cousin.
Is it just possible that we now have too many heritage railways for them all to financially survive?
Very valid point! I guess time will tell if the finance is there
Last time i was there the track had been temoved across the wisbech bypass
Ohh interesting 🤔
CumberLAND (since the 12th century)
A very good point.
They've be saying this for years !! I'll believe it when I see it ! Regards the WIZZ - BEACH line re-opening !! The last 30 years in fact !
Yes it has been a ongoing discussion for some time now!
Just subscribed to your channel. There where I live we have a combination shoreline railroad and heritage railroad. It's called the Sierra Railway. It goes from Riverbank, California to Sonora California. This railway was used for many Hollywood motion pictures such as "High Noon" and "Back to the Future." Also was used in television series such as "The Wild Wild West" and "Petticoat Junction." Bill from central California.
Thankyou! 😊 And AHH wow will have to look it up! Definitely one for the bucket list!
We need more CO2 in the atmosphere! Ask the plants - they would vote for that! Yum yum. Saving lorry trips is a good move, mind.
Line needs to part of the rail network, not a heritage line.
Will be interesting to see what happens with it now but I think a heritage line is more likely 🤔
Heritage lines run far better than mainline. They even run on time.
@markhaynes8909 How often do you use the main line.
How did you do all that research, but not discover that the town name is pronounced “Wizzbeach”, not Wishbeck…?!
@@locomotionlotion779 it takes a lot of practice 😂
It certainly does. I make videos as well with scripts written by myself, and I have mispronounced words.
@MorrisHillmanProductions good to know I'm not the only one haha 🤣
The Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Mayor is pushing for the line to be fully reopened. A major stumbling block is getting the line across the A47. The bad news is the last time the mayor was involved in a railway bridge, it started to fall apart after less than 2 years. This might be because he slashed the budget for it. That bridge at King's Dyke took 40 years to get built.
Where is Wizbeck? Anywhere Wizbeach?
😮All credit to the many thousands of hard working volunteers who have reopened so many lines over the last few decades. However, I think we have to accept that we now in times where expenses are rocketing and the number of volunteers probably peaking mainly due to ageing. Maybe its time to concentrate on consolidating those lines and locos that are now operating? However, I wish them the very best.
Yes credit to them all but yes I agree with the timing and expenses point!
I agree with you sentiments totally. I fear that some heritage railways will go to the wall. Riding costs, lack of coal supplies, an ageing volunteer sector and so on. It's sad but it's true.
Tare is pronounced as in tearing a piece of paper.
Wisbech is pronounced 'Wisbeach'.
@@gzk6nk I know I know noted for the future 😅
Bramley line, check it out, its perfect for reinstatement should anyone choose to put it back into use, was a dumb move closing it and many more like it.
@BegudMaximan-zp2tc yes so I've read, but now with charitable status I wonder how likely that is to happen
@Thecheekyengine very true, but if enough people's interest can be sought, it may be possible to achieve
Is this a sign that plans to resume national network passenger rail services along this line are doomed?
@@frglee it makes you think 🤔
I am afraid that the country does not need another heritage line. The ones that are running now are struggling financially and physically with infrastructure problems. Competing with existing heritage lines for a shrinking customer base will achieve little. What Wisbech (as a sizeable town) needs is the restoration of mainline services, but the longer it takes, the less likely it is to happen. The line has been in situ for many years and could have been restored fairly easily, but there has been deterioration and the track over the A47 crossing was lifted. The A47 road itself carries a lot of traffic, but is a disgrace as it is narrow and winding, hence the need for a proper rail service.
while it would be the only heritage line in the wash, it might take away volunteer and income from the nearest existing lines like the Nene valley
@@MervynPartin it certainly makes it interesting in regards to the line being put back into service, but maybe their efforts will make network rail think about reinstating it.. who knows..
@SDE1994 that's a very valid point but I dont think the nene valley have to worry, with the likes of flying Scotsman and Britannia visiting, pretty sure their doing okay 👍
It would be completely relaid, if reopened.
@@22pcirish It would have to be re-laid now as the track bed has deteriorated after being left so long. It is a pity because if it had been done several years ago, it would have been easily possible- a lot easier than the Hunstanton line which will never happen, despite all the fuss made by the clueless.
When was this
It is pronounced 'Wisbeech"!
@@captaintorch983 first time pronouncing will know for future!
@Thecheekyengine Hi. thanks for this news. I really hope that it takes off. Regards.
a replica J70 group needs establishing then....n
I was about to post the same thing, then I saw your comment!
You need to redo this, you are using the polish name for Wisbech.
@@PaulMiller-h2l first time pronouncing, will know for future!
A beautiful ploughing compound, credit to the restoration.
Can’t wait to see 34028 back on the main line network 👍🏻
Just to let you know Wisbech ends with a -tch sound rather than a -k. The Bramley Line folk haven't done that much, sadly, and I don't see that they'll get too far seeing as the local authority wants the line brought back into full use.
First time trying to pronounce it so dully noted and yes will be interesting to see see what the wicbeck & march line have planned.. hopefully good news!
It's pronounced Bull-eed...
Fantastic thank you
Thanks! 😊
One end of the other probably
Awesome channel great video keep them up please like and subscribe thanks for your support and
@@RickMorey-o4n thankyou appreciate that! 😊
WTF £30 a ticket?🤬 Open Day in the 1970s used to be 15p. I used to go. Rail200 = zero working class audience. Get rid of that Colin Garratt book ffs. He releases 200 odd books with exactly the same photos in them with a different front cover. Those are generalised coffee table books, not enthusiasts reading.
What a lovely little railway 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes it certainly is! 👍
Just so u know, everything that was at Derby went back to there home depot/line there evening after the press event
Thankyou yes I did assume that they would be gone after the event 👍
10,000! They must be having a bloody laugh! People are gonna become from all over the world to see this whether they are British or not, there is something that someone is going to have some historical links to the railways of this country in one way or another. I’m only looking for two tickets for me and my son, hell after this shenanigan, that’s only going to make feel like I’ll be looking for a diamond in a haystack. What about those who buy tickets in big groups? And no disrespect, but this country can show off more than 50 exhibits. If there isn’t the space then find somewhere that does or share it with other organisations like the NRM?
Yes I agree there will be a lot of over seas visitors, I believe though the NRM and locomotion are already involved .
Let’s go!! Nice to see my Local being filmed!😊
Yes it's such a great little line! 🙂
Yes yes
Francis Bourgois: He's having a laugh at our expense, taking the p out of trainspotting Geoff Marshall: Class 1 ****** Pete Waterman: Great guy
@@bfapple You really don't understand what I'm saying? Which of the 3 are you struggling with?
My brother tried to get tickets (I was working) but he gave in in frustration. Utter incompetence from whoever was running the website.
Yes it was so frustrating especially trying all day 😂
We managed to get two tickets for the Sunday but my friend who was booking them said it was a total nightmare and took hours but his persistence paid off in the end !!
AHH well done! Yes unfortunately It was a bit of a nightmare 😂
The main problem I see about adding more days is that of cost. Who knows how much it's costing the organizers just to hold the event already with just 3 days for the staff, entertainment, etc? And if they have to organize appearances of private owned preserved engines would the owners be able to make the stock available for a couple more days?
@@davidwhiting1761 very true! I can imagine their ready for it but yes with the private owned rolling stock it's tricky one
I bought my ticket about 11am, just had to wait a few minutes. Had no idea there had been a problem. I only found about the whole thing ten minutes before when a mate emailed me about it.
Are the rail operators ready for this event?I remember going to Toton depot travelling from Crewe to Derby & they allocated a class 153 dmu to the service leaving many passengers behind.Lets hope the planners sort it.👍
I think I am one of the luckiest people ever. I somehow managed to get a ticket before the site went down on Friday, and set like a 6am alarm so I could be on the college computer bright and early, expecting Oasis levels of Internet traffic. All my classmates were literally cheering for me when I got one. I almost gave up
Brillair footage. Great to see someone who knows how to use a camera. Sadly sometimes people film layouts in one position and you don't get to see it all. Where as your filming is brilliant. The total opposite. Keep up the good work.
@@markgilbert7387 thankyou so much! Probably the nicest comment I've ever had! Really appreciated 😊
Well, a friend of mine was trying to book for the four of us. He tried about 6 or 7 times. If circa 1,500 tried to make 6 or 7 attempts, then that would equate to 10,000 . Shoddy.
Yes exactly I'm taking fiancee and she doesn't like trains but it will be a good day out, spot of people will be the same 😶
I think 10,000 a day is optimistic. I don't think they will sell that many
I reckon you'll be surprised but we will see
Just a quick tip: If you stop being drunk you might remember your intro 👍 🤣
It was for dramatic effect, hard to get drunk on one Henry Weston 😂
I wholeheartedly agree with you that it should be open over more days. 10K per day is totally inadequate for such a monumental event
Definitely but as someone quite rightly said which I didn't take into account, the volunteers time has to be considered.. will interesting to see what's announced next week 👍
@Thecheekyengine That is a very good point.
I tried buying the tickets on the website and it appears the servers are potatoes
@Hello_Trains potatoes 😂😂
