The cities I visited back then already overshadowed all cities in my home country, South Africa, which is one of the most developed on the African continent. I set foot in China well informed. So I was not afraid and knew a lot about China. But it's amazing, 12 hours after getting off the plane including at least 6 hours of sleep.. I told my guide "China is not like I thought" I'm going back in December. My plan is to stay 2 weeks in Xiangyang 襄阳市 which in addition to being the crossing of the railway is a superb city. From Xiangyang 襄阳市 it is possible to reach Xi'an 西安市, Luoyang 洛阳市, Zhengzhou 郑州市, Kaifeng 开封市, Wuhan 武汉市 and Changsha 长沙市. Leaving the hotel very early, taking the fast train and being at the museum for the opening, in the evening, I return to my hotel in Xiangyang 襄阳市.

Never seen such a thing even in New York or any other cities in Europe back then....so I was properly fascinated by it too! This place has changed so much as shown in this video...in a good way! A lot of Beijing's streetlife are in the hutongs -traditional mostly pedestrianised districts, which are hard to spot from the main streets (access is likely through an alleyway). There are of course big nightlife centres, though they change a lot - Houhai has a lot f bars, in a district built between two imperial lakes. Also an absolute must-do is the Forbidden City (world's largest palace) -more impressive than even the great Wall, which you'll need to book in advance and bring your passport for ID. Another one is the Summer Palace, almost as large but with huge grounds of landscaped lakes and gardens. Another must-see is the 798 Art District, where Beijing's commercial galleries hang out; it's the largest global art market, and was the epicentre of contemporary art during the 90s and noughties, when it was infamous for its subversive, gory, sexy shock art. What you'll see nowadays though is much more palatable.

Theyve also opened up the side buildings (about 2/3 of the 980 buildings are now accessible), but yeah theyre two completely different entities. Man, I should tell you there is a park named World Park in south Beijing and I recommend you visiting there. The ticket is about 100 Chinese Yuan. Also, there is a free military museum in Beijing not far from the Square and not so many foreigners know about that. I do strongly recommend you visiting there, the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution.

I've been there a few times and I rarely saw black tourists. Even if you look up a travel vlog on RUclips, but see very little to no videos made by blacks. Heh heh, I have walked the exact same places; around the old railway station and Qianmen. It is really a nice place for an evening stroll and some good food. Esepcially when your hotel is only like 500 meters away. Beijing is a great city, and although more areas inside Ring 2 have become more touristy, you can still find those quiet back streets, where you literally cannot believe that you are in a city with 15-20 mill inhabitants.

I don't think so. There is literally no large city in the U.S. with the vibrancy of Chinese cities. Sure in the daytime you can venture to well known sites - just try to ignore the legions of drugged out street people. At night most American cities turn into tombs, no one ventures out except to a very few selected night spots for the party set - best to make sure those spots have enough police or private security but always be prepared for the worst. Chinese people are out enjoying their cities day and night, because they are not afraid for their personal safety AND the cities offer a pleasant environment.
There were fewer people on the streets after 11 o'clock on Sunday, because the next day was a working day, and they went home early after a crazy weekend with their friends.

What I really noticed about most Asian countries, is that they really encourage walking. I enjoy seeing the big strips and wide sidewalks. i think the streets you showed in video are very average normal streets nothing amazing about them. I saw them maybe 15 years ago wasn't even impressed by a bit. I just came to visit Shanghai after 6 years away. I can't even recognize many places, a lot of beautiful things being built.

Hey man... You kept saying GPS, Global Positioning System, the satellites system developed and operated by the United States. Pretty sure GPS doesn't work well in China. You need to use Beidou (China can't call their satellite system GPS, cos it's trademarked). I am asking cos I wonder which map app you using. 百度地圖 Baidu Map or 高德地图 autonavi , are both good. They usually bring you to the exact door (unless you are in Chongqing). FYI, just my memory, not official data, in public free version. GPS is only 3 metre-ish accurate. I live in Canada and it usually brings me 3 to 5 meters within the destination. And then GPS is even more inaccurate when used in China, I dont know how, but China somehow jammed that. Then Beidou system public version is half to 1 meter accurate so those chinese map app can usually bring you to the exact door. Now im not saying chinese GPS is better than US GPS. cos last time i read an article in 2022-ish. the military grade navigation system US have access to, was still better than China's, at that time, according to that article I read.
GPS accuracy is like 9 ft at best for commercial use in North America. 15 feet or so in other parts of the world. The military adds noise to control accuracy.
GPS works alright in China. Only that the official map data in China has pseudo-random offsets, and all map providers are given a correction table to undo that. If you are in an urban area, actually your smartphone's positioning uses neither GPS nor Beidou, but 5G/Wi-Fi signal strength data, which is way more accurate due to very high density and very small range of Wi-Fi.
Sly, you should stay two more months in China...should go to Shanghai, HongKong, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu... Hunan Changsha....way too many other places to include here.

I don't think so. There is literally no large city in the U.S. with the vibrancy of Chinese cities. Sure in the daytime you can venture to well known sites - just try to ignore the legions of drugged out street people. At night most American cities turn into tombs, no one ventures out except to a very few selected night spots for the party set - best to make sure those spots have enough police or private security but always be prepared for the worst. Chinese people are out enjoying their cities day and night, because they are not afraid for their personal safety AND the cities offer a pleasant environment.

If you use Google maps for your GPS, the satellite image is offset by a couple hundred meters for some reason in China

Mandarin is spoken in mainland China. Cantonese is used in Hong Kong part of China.
Not only Hong Kong, but Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan have more than 100 million people who speak Cantonese

You need to go to Shenzhen, Chongquin, and Shanghai. Youre stuck in Beijing
Those cities you mentioned just very little parts of China. Go to provinces like Yunnan, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and cities like Xian and Hangzhou.

What I really noticed about most Asian countries, is that they really encourage walking. I enjoy seeing the big strips and wide sidewalks. Most of America are losing their sidewalks and more roads are being built for cars. 😢 China, South Korea, Japan and even Bangkok seem more advanced than America.

i think the streets you showed in video are very average normal streets nothing amazing about them. I saw them maybe 15 years ago wasn't even impressed by a bit. I just came to visit Shanghai after 6 years away. I can't even recognize many places, a lot of beautiful things being built.

Hey man... You kept saying GPS, Global Positioning System, the satellites system developed and operated by the United States.
Pretty sure GPS doesn't work well in China.
You need to use Beidou (China can't call their satellite system GPS, cos it's trademarked).
I am asking cos I wonder which map app you using.
百度地圖 Baidu Map or 高德地图 autonavi , are both good. They usually bring you to the exact door (unless you are in Chongqing).
FYI, just my memory, not official data, in public free version. GPS is only 3 metre-ish accurate. I live in Canada and it usually brings me 3 to 5 meters within the destination. And then GPS is even more inaccurate when used in China, I dont know how, but China somehow jammed that.
Then Beidou system public version is half to 1 meter accurate so those chinese map app can usually bring you to the exact door.
Now im not saying chinese GPS is better than US GPS. cos last time i read an article in 2022-ish. the military grade navigation system US have access to, was still better than China's, at that time, according to that article I read.

GPS + Starlink > Beidou > GPS > Galileo > GLONASS
GPS accuracy is like 9 ft at best for commercial use in North America. 15 feet or so in other parts of the world. The military adds noise to control accuracy.
GPS works alright in China. Only that the official map data in China has pseudo-random offsets, and all map providers are given a correction table to undo that. If you are in an urban area, actually your smartphone's positioning uses neither GPS nor Beidou, but 5G/Wi-Fi signal strength data, which is way more accurate due to very high density and very small range of Wi-Fi.
