I was homeless at xmas 86 having run away from scotland at age of 14 , the people of nottingham helped me no end .and im still here to this day . God bless notts xx
Fantastic!. Brings back great childhood memories. The city centre was special back then. If only you had turned left at the top of the escalator in Broadmarsh we would of seen Skills ToyShop.
God i was a teenager in 1986 it was better then 2020 now its horrible all the shops are closing down...now with virus we car'nt even go in to town horrible year
You can climb over the gates if your nimble enough, I did it 1 night after they started charging. But didn’t go in the main buildings, I didn’t fancy a free night in the cells
Hiya, I am a broadcast journalism student studying at NTU and wondered whether I could use part of this RUclips clip as part of my documentary on the history of John Player's in Nottingham? Please get back to me. Many thanks!
All the worst amateur cameraman's faults. But helps illustrate how successive Labour councils mucked up Nottingham town centre big time. And this was shot just about when the UK's coal miners were committing suicide, and the town's money was drying up.
@@user-re2fl3sh2d And which government were buying the cheaper products? That's why the miners were striking. I never said the labour councils weren't at falut. But then as now that's only part of the picture. The reason that labour councils are failing now is because the tory government is reducing the funding from central government. I am not here to point the finger in one direction because I am not blinkered into one party. I look at all causes of an issue.

When town was nice and every one wasn't stuck on phones 😧miss those days xx
Town was nicer in some ways , But there were vliteral tramps wandering around& heabutts + fisticuffs like clockwork at your local night club
People seemed a lot happier back then.
I was 21 then. Loved the 80s.
indeed I was 22
Back in the good old days when town was nice 😁
I want those days back the city certainly hasn’t done well over the last 10 years so so sad 😞
Don't you mean the last 43 years..
MUCH prefer the Square like that to how it is now.
The Broad Marsh Centre not full of pound shops and still making an effort at Christmas. You can tell it was a while back.
LeandrosBoll that place has been going to the dogs for years!
so sad to see the state it's in now, so many good shops and landmarks gone
Hi Shirley.
God i was a teenager in 1986 it was better then 2020 now its horrible all the shops are closing down...now with virus we car'nt even go in to town horrible year
Loved that city. We were very sorry to have to move away....
I still love my city despite what they've done to it 😢
Miss the wimpy in broadmarsh
I'm still annoyed that people from Nottingham can't go to castle for free anymore
Tom Hallam I know, I had to pay £14 just for me and my 6 year little boy to go there and we could only stayed an hour!!!
You can if you're disabled.
Dr Chunky Biscuit thank you for that information

Back in the days before internet shopping killed off the high street.
Great childhood memories, not the same anymore. All the good shops and pubs have gone. Was 15 that year best times ever
Did you go to zhivagos night club when you were 18? The only club back then that you could guarantee getting in 😎
This video is crying out for a soundtrack of hits from 1986.
Brings back lots of memories, always hated that tulip fountain outside M&S, it was always leaking water down the road.
34 years ago , i've become an old man , *FFS*
you're not on your own but in good company..So smile at that.

Hi, yes no problem good luck with your documentary.
The year I moved to Nottingham
MsCharlieBrown78 (Charlie Rae) same here me duck!
Yeah I came here in 1986 too
RIP Nottingham
Broad Marsh Centre back when it had shops!
That’s one fast big wheel 😳
Pre Xylophone man
The society has certainly got worse
Not sure if it was there then but I loved the big Disney store before it moved to intu centre. Had 2 or 3 levels!
There used to be a great big independent toy shop on chapel bar at the end of the square , but I don’t remember a Disney
No sound :(
Town was dope as a kid.... now I avoid it
Who remembers Juicy Lucy???
They were based upstairs in Victoria Centre, I think.
I remember them from years ago
Sad what a dump it’s become thanks to a succession of useless councils
City of Robin Hood . Now its Robbing Hoods.
WHY ARE THE PEOPLE SO SLIM WHERE ARE ALL FATTIES WE HAVE NOW 😨
Quite simply because people then got out and about more, families spent more time doing activities together, and technology was less of an obsession 😃

And who shut all the pits?
@@marklongdon2435 Cheaper Polish coal pits and their products, amongst others. But doesn't excuse council ineptness and wrong decision-making.
