I'm in the UK, and my mother is 86 years old now. I remember her telling me when she was a child that they used to have chickens and guinea fowl. She said that at night , they would roost up in the tall oak trees, and would always make a lot of noise if anything or anyone was lurking around, so like good guard dogs.

Noisy, can be destructive, and jerks to boot. Never again. Good "guard dogs" though.

Try putting a bright light just inside the auto door. The light should draw them to the door when it starts to get dark.
