Denis Law my football hero. Jerseys for goal posts holding the ends of my sleeves in the palm of my hand with socks at my ankles just like Denis used to do. He will be missed. May God Bless you Denis you were one of the greats.
I recall a Regimental Sergeant Major type Gym Teacher screaming at me in the mid sixties at school “ tuck your shirt in boy when you can play like Denis Law I will let you look like him!” Wonderful player and man .
I was a 13 vrs old Brummy playing football with my friends in Glebe Farm park in Birmingham on a Sunday. A lad went past with his arm in plaster. The plaster was signed by Denis Law, who was the biggest name in football at the time . We found him out and started a kick around. I was in goal and dived to save his penalty but the ball never left his feet . He was with George Hanna ad Kenny Barnes at the time, fast forward 15yrs ago and I bumped into him in Bolton. We talked for about 5 minutes and he could vaguely remember it. I felt so proud, he was a wonderful man to have met.
Bless him... Still the ONLY Scotsman to win a Ballon d'Or. I was there the day he scored that back-heel for City against Utd. Some say it was due to that as to how Utd got relegated, but of course that is just a myth, but it did devastate him so much, he never kicked another ball. That is a guy who kissed the Utd badge when he scored, because he loved the Club so much and not because he has just got a £10k scoring bonus. One of the true greats, who played for the love of the game, sadly missing in todays game. RIP Dennis. Heaven is getting itself quite the Football Team....
Not being bias because I'm Scottish but Dennis Law was so underrated. Pele said he was the only player who could play for Brazil in 1070 world cup. What a tribute. 😉
the saying goes "don't let the truth get in the way of a good story", denis law's back heel didn't relegate united in 1974, if united had won 20-0 they would still have gone down. if journalists wrote the facts they would be out of a job, which wouldn't be a bad thing.
The granite city is morning its favourite son, a true United legend and a gentleman who never forgot his roots. A true Aberdeen loon. Stand free and god bless Denis 🔴⚪️
