😂❤ wow thank you to my RUclips suggestion entity lol. I am in September 2024 and I enjoy watching videos from before everyone had a phone. This is a great song and video. We ABSOLUTELY had NO PROBLEM COMMUNICATING WITH OUT THE INTERNET WITHOUT CELLPHONES. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL TIME.
3:40 Anyone in the performing arts will tell you that for the billing artist to be looking to his guest for direction is a significant sign of humility. He didn't just welcome them to his experience - he knows he's also a guest in theirs ❤️
As an awestruck Peter Gabriel fan of nearly forty years, a musician and singer-songwriter, a loving humanist, author, poet, philosopher and man of science, I concur with you sir and I can, with great confidence forward that indeed, "this is the brotherhood of man".
@William Stefens something to do with Martin Scorese who is the producer of this, and that is why some things were cut and why it will never be released on bluray.
I saw PG play both in ‘85 and in 86/87 (Security and So tours) and they were both the most moving and joyous shows I have ever seen. Two best concerts I have ever attended hands down (and I’ve seen quite a few in my 56 years), and this was the best song of the show. You left exhilarated. Saw him again during the New Blood Orchestra tour, and while he has aged and obviously slowed down, he is still captivating to watch and listen to. An incredibly charismatic and talented performer.
It's not the same if you can't watch this live performance.....they just added so much to this....I just watch it over and over....never tire of it....
I remember seeing this performance on tv when I was younger. All the RUclips videos I’ve seen of it omit the part where they all gather onstage and dance. I thought for years that I had just made that part up in my head. Glad to see I didn’t… 😊
The echo that went out of the theatre, bounced off of the surrounding mountain, and out into the night. Those lucky people that night to have been there.
If you just simply reflect on the lyrics... let alone the amazing musicianship and song crafting that went into this masterpiece.... it is at it's heart, a beautiful reflection on the unkowable and almost unspeakable power that love for another can have over our entire life and existence. Anyone who has known that depth of love, knows exactly what he meant...."in your eyes"
Does anyone else remember the Earls Court 28 June 1987 with Kate Bush guest? Also, the non-functioning microphone for 'San Jacinto' meant that he had to re-start the whole show! To see such a show was a privilege. It felt like a free gift. I missed the train home and knocked on a Uni mate's door in North London at 1am and they let me in. (Thanks Mister Sinha!)
I had the pleasure to see him front row in 2001 at The Coral Sky amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida. He had a problem with his ear monitors and stopped as he motioned to the others to do the same. He opened with Red Rain and no more than eight bars into it he stopped. Told the audience what the problem was and after it was corrected started from the top. Those are the type of musicians that I like to work with. One's who can improvise and not fall apart when something goes wrong!
5Os, 6Os, 7Os, 8Os, 9Os, beyond, always adapting and changing - cf. Peter Gabriel's career from 7Os to present - this is ROCK MUSIC at its greatest, this is HEART and SOUL and SPIRIT and REVOLUTION against all forms of injustice and inhumanity and stultification of humanity; yes, young people and especially young musicians, BEHOLD, and CONTINUE and REVIVE when it needs reviving; corporate "rock" has ALWAYS sucked and STILL SUCKS, throw it off again and again and again and listen to the greats and CARRY ON; this music keeps us ALIVE, it keeps ME alive ...
For those who listened to 99X in Atlanta back in the 90's: This is the version that Sean D. played back then, from his private collection (probably because it wasn't available on CD). He was the only one who could play it (though I think he let Yvonne or Jill play it once or twice) and it disappeared from the station when he left in 2000.
Yep, he would often get asked to play it, and he would usually announce he was about to play it so people could get their tape recorder ready to record it. That's how I got it originally!
My first concert
I was in this concert and it was one of the most beautiful nights of my life!

Can you Please explain the Man of Science part??
Oh my God.....you are so observant, and correct.
I was there...exceptional performance
I can't even begin to imagine how much fun that had to have been.
@William Stefens I had the video to this concert, but I would like to see a bluray release for this.
So jealous
@William Stefens something to do with Martin Scorese who is the producer of this, and that is why some things were cut and why it will never be released on bluray.
Been there too. Gabriel's performance was the best of that night!
Youssou is totally on his game in this particular performance.

Youssou should be featured on this studio track. Exploitation at it's finest.
Huh, what?: 😳🤦♂️
It's not the same if you can't watch this live performance.....they just added so much to this....I just watch it over and over....never tire of it....

Que dupla fantástica.
The most perfect version of this song, no question. ❤️
This is just perfection.
8:32 is a just magical moment. And how can you not love that ending with the back lit hand.
The echo that went out of the theatre, bounced off of the surrounding mountain, and out into the night.
Those lucky people that night to have been there.

Just plain awesome musical talent and execution...they make it seem easy.
Very much so. Considering this was the end of the tour, it's safe to say that they had a ton of practice.
