The best netballer ever grace the court. EVER. I wish there would be more Pure as series with a past player.
I totally agree totally please make it happen
I remember that moment she announced her retirement, i knew she wasnt going to be picked for the comm games because her performance with pulse was not very good, i am happy i now know the story behind her retirement and mad respect to wai for allowing her to exit the game her way. A great of the sport and was a privilege watching her growing up, an era of nz best netball. More pure as past players will be great. Thanks for the memories Irene and You got your very own magic tshirt autographed and sent it to me, i still have it. Something ill always treasure 😀
as young Male in Jamaica watching the 1995 world championship semifinal I watch irene single handedly beat new Zealand I was so in love with her & in 2003 I have the opportunity to watch her live in my city as she help the new Zealand beat the diamond it was my best netball moment ever!!!! love u irene🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
She is a netball legend & icon. She changed the game and made the tall shooter trend a thing. Now every team has a tall timber player. Love live Irene Van Dyke
Irene you are my all time favourite Silver Fern ever. You are my favourite kiwi and South African. I love you
Beautiful lady, fantastic player. A class act. NZ is so blessed to have Irene choose this country for her own. Total respect.
Amazing story & Amazing player I grew up watching with my family
Thank you
probably the best piece of mini doco Silver Ferns has ever put out. What a great role model Irene is...Im just waiting when Irene will get her 'Dame; Irene Van Dyk :)
She single-handedly raised the profile of netball in the world.. the definition of the greatest player of all time
Kia ora Irene and an Amazing story! You are a TRUE 'trooper'' and we love you for your tenacity, determination and perseverance in becoming the 'GOAT' in the netball arena world wide and for NZ. The love and support from your hubby and mum are formidable. AROHANUI 💜
I never seen such calm player and always smile in either win or lose in every game and always a team player. Had the honour to meet her here in Tonga such a humble soul.
arohanui Irene.Legend. A true kiwi legend. Thank you for the happy moments watching you play.
A born South African traitor!
This made me emotional. Irene will always be one of my fave players. Such a beautiful person😊
As a young boy in NZ at the time who grew up in a rugby/netball crazed family home I found my love for NZ netball and followed the silver ferns through the 90s and 2000s (which I call the golden years) eventually playing myself for a local men's club team. I was inspired by Van Dyk and met her on a number of occasions. An exceptional netball player which goes without saying of course but also an exceptional human being off the court as well! I really enjoyed this interview! The memories of past greats who all contributed to the golden years of silver fern netball putting our small country on the world map and transforming international netball forever! ❤️ so proud to be a kiwi!
I think any normal house hold in nz with mums dad brothers and sisters all grew up loving both sports. nI thought it was just my family. I love rugby but I also like watching the netball and that early 2000 period is what got me interested in netball..probably because I like watching the kiwi girls finally beat up the aussie at netball
What a great person who found a place in nz playing the sports she loves and willing to give back the knowledge she learnt back to the up and coming young players in this little country of nz.
I saw her and Kopua at iron Maori one year those two were having a blast, great to see
You were one of the best Irene thank you for your huge contribution to NZ netball
Love Irene, I remember the 1st time I saw her on court on TV in 1995, I was 12 and she blew my mind!
Her book is amazing, a must read.
A kindred spirit Irene is, always smiling regardless of the scoreline. What an amazing person and thanks for her service to the sport worldwide.
Irene Van Dyk you are a legend and a great human being to boot ♥️🙏👍
Beautiful spirit and human being! Best GS ever to grace the netball court 🙌❤️🤙🏽👏👊🏾
Awesome story. Awesome player. Awesome woman. You will always be remembered for being one of,if not the, greatest player that has ever graced the netball court. Thank you for your amazing services to netball!!!
Bernice sticking up for Irene at 1:55 "there you go" LOVE!!
She did well! Thankful social media wasnt around at this time!
I just watched this video, what a wonderful sportsperson , & probably more important, special human being .. She's an inspiration to all , regardless of whether or not you play sport ..
Miss seeing you On the big stage of netball IRENE. You took NZ netball to a whole different level as a GS for the Fernz. Thank you so much for your service. ❤
Thanks for everything Irene.
Irene Van Dyk in her Netball years in her birth place of South Africa was good it’s not until she moved her and her family to New Zealand is wen she stamped her place in Netball, and became one of the best players not only in New Zealand but around the world and has always stayed humble and true to herself and all around her, which shows the tru essences of a great mana wahine and I’m proud to have had the opportunity to meet her and I thank her for all her contribution to Netball on and off the court and her love for her two motherlands South Africa and Aotearoa is truly priceless something money cannot buy, and her legacy and memories will last a life time. Nga mihi hoki ki a koe te wahine Ataahua Irene Van Dyk ❤️🖤❤️
Thank you for sharing ....heart warming honesty and humility. Ka kite
What a wonderful NZer Irene is. I was on a plane one time, where an elderly woman was struggling during the flight. Irene sat with her, calmed her down and held her hand until the Air NZ people came to help the elderly woman from the plane. Champion on and off the court.
Thank you Irene for giving us you. Wahine toa. Ka kite.
Well done to her 👏🏾 she was a teacher at Selborne primary School nd I was one of the students. I hope she is still well 👌🏾
One of the great characters of NZ Netball, her move helped Netball's profile in the country.
What a great episode!
always my absolute favourite silver fern was my netball inspo even though I played WA n WD loved watchingall her games
What an insight! Has made me love her even more!
A woman with such a beautiful soul who is still involved in the game at a coaching level so she isnt lost completely and she pops up now and then at the court in the bay tournament in Hastings so yea be great to see her there this year 2022
G.O.A.T. Your a Legend Irene.

The best GS we will ever see! Queen 👸
She was awesome
My favorite “Pure As”. Irene you are a wonderful legend to the sport. We love you forever. Was definitely sad to see you go, but I’m happy on how it was done. We thank you for everything you have given to the sport, both on and off the court. You deserved every success you’ve received. Forever my favorite player. Would have loved to see you back one more time in the black dress 💯🖤🤍 🇳🇿
The best just simply the best
Favourite one so far 🥰🥰🥰
irene superstar,co-ordinated powerful goal shoot.nz was unbeatable when she played.
One of the best humans alive! Te Aroha Nui Irene. Please come back to coach the Magic!!
Awesome Legend. ❤
Fantastic life and person.
No spot is reserved for any player on any team that wears the black uniform. Every player that puts that black jersey on has worked harder and played better than anyone else in that position, in the entire country. They earned the right to wear it over everyone else. You're not taking someone else's spot; if they were good enough they would be in that spot instead of you.
I love Wai, for her pure honesty and humbleness. But she was not a great head coach for the Ferns. Irene was still good enough to be there for the 2014 Comm Games (and possibly the the 2015 WC. Maybe not starting 7, but definitely on the bench)
The Goat
Irene Van Dyk is so f'n beautiful, not just on the outside
Yes I 😍😍😍😍
IVD = Kiwi Silver Ferns GOAT… the best, worlds best
I grew up watching Irene playing netball, i had no idea the back lash she suffered with her coming to play for the Silver Ferns, so disappointed in NZ... at the time the Silver Ferns needed a consistent skilled shooter too they werent winning a hell of a lot!
We should never had let her go when we did, she had one more world cup left in her! Waimarama shoved her out before her time and nz suffered for it for a few years under wai leadership! almost lost everything under her. Noels had to come clean it up after her and the last coach!
GOAT
I don't see this as Irene "Retiring", She was essentially fired. I see this as the Ferns not wanting to look bad for getting rid of the best player in the world. Which is shady af.
she was close to 40?? and as she said her ANZ season was dismal, i think she was pretty content on calling it a day
The accent difference is crazy 😩
Hello Irene, you're still look the same as you were 40 years ago. Old (lol) sorry it's a joke.you look gorgeous.
I guess Bernice find her to be her hardest opponent to mark so why not accept her on her side lol you can't beat them so let them join you 😂😂🤣🤣 love from 🇯🇲
Having been the SA captain, she should never have been allowed to play for New Zealand.
@@maverick214 what gives you the right to say that. She had every right and am glad she did
Yes...i was one of them that didn't get that opportunity n yet had potential but not the right colour. The same happened to our daughter in a different apartheid era.. she went to a model c school but still they only allowed the white girls to go n play trials n had a lame excuse when I questioned them about it. Nevertheless. We moved to NZ in the late 1990's and I don't regret it..never moving back there.
Thanks, we do not want you here either!
@@pauldbeer apartheid kicking in here mate.
Dang her father is tall
