They finally added this to the Criterion Channel yesterday as part of their "Holiday Noir" curation. It was a very interesting, gritty watch, which gives you a sense of bleakness and dread. Thank you for the great review and all of the behind the scenes facts!
Three Days of the Condor is one of my all time favorite films and happens to be set near Christmas. Memorable Manhattan bookshop scene with Redford and Dunaway.
I bought "Blast of Silence" 15 years ago at a Barnes and Noble half off sale Criterion sale, but haven't watched it in a long time. I had even forgotten that it took place at Christmas time. I'll have to remember to re-watch in December. A movie I love that takes place at Christmas time is: "The Merry Gentleman" 2008 with Michael Keaton and Kelly MacDonald. Also, "Remember The Night" 1940 with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. Thank you for the review!
Hi Josh: Great video as always. I've never heard of this movie. That's why I enjoy your channel. You always bring interesting movies to my attention. My favorite Christmastime movies are Die Hard and It's a Wonderful Life. Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas. Regards, Keith
Cool recommendation. _Die Hard_ and _The Wiz_ / _The Wizard Of Oz_ are my X-Mas staples but a new fave is 1939's _The Mikado_ on Criterion - the fantasy-designed, early Technicolor UK Opera production makes a nice double feature with _Oz._
Wow! As munch as I love to look through the criterion collection, somehow The Mikado has gone completely under my radar until you mentioned it here. I’ll definitely have to check that one out! Thanks for the great recommendations!
Fantastic review. Thanks!
It's incredible that Allen Baron is still with us today... This movie was a masterpiece.
Good review. I'll subscribe.
Thanks for great review. I Will be sure to picik this up coming Dec 23 as Criterion just announced the bluray version of this movie. Cheers ❤
I saw that! It’s nice to see this one finally getting a Blu-ray!
