Poor Tank Engines, can only hope the crews don't thrash them too hard, or at least provide good enough maintenance to make up for the thrashing. Especially 1450, they really looks like she's overfired with how much steam she's letting out.
The crew too occupied with filming their "achievements" on the footplate by ragging 1450 especially at 13:40 to notice they've pushed a freshly overhauled engine too hard. The AVR need to calm down with the thrashing. An Austerity with a 5/6 coach train lifting it from the station is one thing, but a GWR tank with one auto coach doesn't need it - talk about overkill.
Fantastic Video - Really Enjoyed - it was great to see GWR 1450 + Autocoach Running on the Railway. Surprisingly I have never ever been to the Avon Valley Railway.
Where's the problem? They're not standing too close to the line when filming, there seems to be a barrier or decent distance from the track whenever they are filming.
I had no ide that 1450 was overhauled. But it's good to see that she is steaming well. Maybe when she returns to the SVR I can see her in action. I need an excuse to return to that railway anyway. :D
I’ve never seen a loco so badly treated before. 1450 taken to the point of priming not once but twice. Not to mention it’s fresh out of the works. I hope the crew receive some constructive feedback ..
@ in short - the loco is being worked far too hard. With a high water level and little use of the reverser to notch back. Working an engine like that draws so much steam from the boiler, that it lifts water too, taking water straight into the cylinders. Water isn’t compressible so is a sure fire way to blow a cap off. You can see it starting to happen when the exhaust goes to a thick white cloud and the blast becomes dulled. The driver does proceed to open the drain taps to reduce the risk of damage but it should never get to that stage. It happens twice in this video - once is bad enough.
They are built to work hard, not to be left on the first valve at 25 mph.. Crews having fun with some pocket rockets, on a straight railway! And they sound 🤩
@@cheetah3948 you obviously know nothing about how a steam loco works and that's fine not everyone does but that was terrible driving and and an awful way to use an engine, twice in that video the loco was being pushed far to hard, so no they are not supposed to be treated like that.
This is why this loco and Auto Coach became based on the SVR as it was mistreated else where, not sure why it was steamed on the Avon Valley Railway in the first place before returning to the SVR
Looking at the footage the driver of 1450 did exactly right,he opened the cylinder drain taps when he noticed the priming was coming on but on the other hand its the fireman's fault that he's put too much water into the boiler.
@@RaggyAl1971 driver and fireman always work together. If the water was a little high, the driver should have adjusted his driving style to suit. But being driven this hard in full gear could cause priming at even lower water levels. Drain taps were opened far too late.
Nearly, my opinion to this is driving 1450 like an Austerity, which at the end of the day comes down to rhe crew being incompetent. As for the 'worst crew' watch some videos of Didcot😂
@@FriskWilkinson what springs to my mind instantly when someone says Didcot is the ivatt 2 handbrake incident, 4079 in second valve and water blowing through the safety valves like rain, and the video of 1340 Trojan with 1 coach being put straight on second valve and slipping all the way up the demonstration line so much you can see the fire coming out of the chimney😂
Brilliant footage, this is such a scenic line. It really deserves to be a lot longer.
Thanks for watching. There are aspirations to extend further into Bath.

1450's going to need another overhaul at this rate
Please note, a NON OPERATIONAL volunteer could be seen filming from the footplate
Is that bad?
Ok?

Btw guys I have a dentist appointment tomorrow
Where were going we don't need cylinder covers!
Ex railwayman here , The side lamps on the brake van should be white not red ! This is a big no no !
I'm all in favour of giving it some welly but holy moly that's a tad too much for a freshly overhauled loco 😖😬
Fkn’ell the drivers on the Avon do love thrashing all the locos!
It’s a lawless line, the hub of steam thrash
nice to see the driver giving it some welly they should get the class 31 out for a blast
can some time stamp when the 1450 act up thanks

the SVR have confirmed that 145o will be returning in time for the Winter Steam Gala in January
asuming the AVR haven't wrecked it by then
@ apparently she is still due for testing / running in at the SVR
@@terrier_productions Ooh, very nice. :D
Thought she would be at the Valley?
Should be as it is a SVR based Loco, so not sure why it was on the Avon Valley Railway straight after an overall

What did the crew do to it? i was there and i did think it was being pushed to its limits. would be nice to know what they did wrong.

I hope who ever was driving was told to never come back, has he heard of notching back!? Or using the regulator like a lever not a switch lmao

An engine can prime without being over full if driven too hard, as seen.
