    I usually make a master to do list in a notebook and I just do a few things off the list every day. And every once in a while I update the to do list by making a new one.

    I'm really glad you're open about certain aspects of ADHD like low impulse control. Often times we can be afraid to admit them cause we're afraid ppl will think of us as immature and not take us seriously. However the truth is that that is just how our brains work!

    It’s kind of hilarious that iterative failure has led me into the very same habits. Background music being the only exception; although it must be lyrics free in order to work for me. But, great video!

    I found you on Nebula and I'm delighted I did! It's really inspiring and moving for me to find a machine learning professional who also has ADHD and is happy to share about it. I am happily working as a developer at the moment, but I went through a rough time, dropping out of uni twice due to a combination of (what I know now to be) strong social anxiety and ADHD. Ironically, I found professional development to be a lot easier than studying computer science. I think all of the chopping and changing and meeting new people was just completely wrong for me as a person. Anyway, I've bookmarked a ton of your videos and look forward to digesting them. I've been wanting to get back into machine learning and I really appreciate you laying out how you've found each area. Thanks for the hard work creating this content. It's really appreciated

    Great video. An interesting point that you bring out is that sometimes methods can work for a while and then lose efficacy. It is therefore necessary to find new methods. This is likely perceived as frustrating, however the research of new techniques for concentrating could be fun. Also methods that don't work might work again after a pause or a few months or if the conditions change.

      For me with ADHD I find a key distinction is whether the system/tool is meant to create urgency or facilitate organization decisions. Things that create urgency have the sharpest falloff because the novelty is part of what creates the urgency to act. As I get used to them, they usually become a hassle.

    This is very helpful. I use a time timer, too. And I am currently considering using analogue methods again for short lists and to cross them off. For similar reasons like the ones you mention. Thank you!🖖

    I am two minutes in the video and I already love this channel. The digital to do lists and forgetting that they exist LOOOOOL that is sooo true.

    I still haven’t found what really works for me with to do lists… maybe bc I more around too much in my work (multiple lab spaces) so it is hard to keep something in front of me all the time. My phone does stay with me, but yeah, it also contains many distractions. Thanks for sharing; it once again pushed me to think about what is and is not working for me as I try to improve this year and take on more responsibilities.

    Great video. I agree with the digital tools... Out of sight out of mind esp. for note taking on my phone and Google drive. Both just became black holes where things went in and were never seen again.

    Great video as always! As someone studying Math + Computer Science (also with ADHD!) I was wondering how you read lengthy technical research papers / textbooks without glossing over and forgetting everything? I struggle with reading these texts and I feels like I just don’t understand, yet when I’m in the right mindset, or find a video explanation, it seems so simple. Just wondered what your tips were on this!

      I'm actually planning on making a video about this, but the short version is that how I read papers depends on why I'm reading it. For technical papers in particular, I usually take a first pass without worrying about glossing over, and then come back and unpack things like formulas by writing them out so I make sure I can understand them.

    Oh boy that first one is relateable
    .. any tips on how to fix that?
    My parents get mad at me for forgetting a lot of things and I feel bad but I can't stop myself from doing so... or I guess not doing so

    For me the closest thing to a reward incentive that works is that MS ToDo plays a sharp ping sound whenever I check something off. At some point I'll start to wonder when I get to check something off again. It'll bring me back to check in and give me an opportunity to see if I'm missing something or realize that I'm no longer doing anything that was on my list.

    Pomodoro always feels like a 20 minute nap for me. It's not enough time to get into flow state, and breaks are not long enough to feel like a break. It also ends up making me feel exhausted from the amount of task switching required to be able to use it effectively. So I just end up feeling super frustrated when I'm looking for support with task switching, and seeing "Have you tried the pomodoro technique" as a sort of catch-all solution.

    For me music is great for boring tasks that don’t take much brain and don’t feel rewarding. It has to not be in the language I’m using though (if I’m writing French, anything but French, English anything but English etc). I work well on very repetitive loops. I wrote my internship memoir listening to a 5s loop I had composed on a online loop generator, with rainy mood on top.
