0:40 Do you think it is a fretless bass? I used to think so but after hearing these slides from the 12th and 8th fret, I can hear the sound of 12 and 8 fret markers........
I mean between Gilmour and Waters, while Nick Mason was in charge to keep the three together. I'll let here a link for you all to listen to a technical explanation that helped me to understand how it worked out; and why Richard Right was THE key man of the band. Check it out!
Dave definitely played the bass on Pigs, and awesomely. Roger played cool rythm giutar, but Daves use of the talk box is the best Ive ever heard. Its friggin' crazy. Unfortunately, any live bootlegs Ive heard, he doesnt use it.
Gilmour was more profficient technically and he could do bass takes more quicklly than Roger...the pict is not from Animals sessions, right? I think is from 1972, Obscured by clouds recording
Roger was a great bass player listen to Live at Pompeii. This bass playing by Gilmour sounds more like a guitar than a bass. I wish Roger would have played it. If Dave wanted to be a bass player I am sure he would have been great, but a guitar player can not just become a bass player, you got to live it. These photos of Dave are from the Obscured By Clouds sessions BTW.
I'd agree with you in the sense that Roger is the much more EFFECTIVE. He doesn't do too much, but he does exactly what's needed of him. He's a very solid musical and rhythmic backbone. As a (hobbyist) bassist I absolutely adore Dave's bass line here, but on this song they basically swapped instruments while keeping the same roles. Roger supports on the rhythm guitar while Dave plays the lead. I don't mind it here though and it sounds very unique (and it's fun to play).
@@nigelpisswater484Musicians in general are all a dime a dozen, it’s those with exceptional talent that make them the *exception* such as Roger and David, both very skilled at what they do best
Roger was def better. Pigs has a good baseline but Roger’s playing on breathe, great gig in the sky, time, money eclipse, echoes and so many more was better than and hey you
as much of a questionable public figure as roger can be, he’s a hell of a bassist. super aggressive tone and part with some funky ass fills in there too also, out of curiosity, did you use the original ‘77 mix or the 2018 remix? i personally think the 2018 mix does the album much better justice, particularly in the rhythm section. everything is a lot clearer and punchier
@@revanasywal Not according to Pink Floyd: All The Songs by Jean-Michel Guesdon and Phillippe Margotin. Roger played rhythm live and Snowy White played the bass live but according to them, Gilmour played all the guitars and bass on the recording.

definitely not a fretless
The first and second solo are played on a p-bass with flat wound strings, and the groove part with the slides and stuff are played on a fretless.
@@IntrepidFCNah it's definitely a normal p-bass all the way through, you can hear fret buzz throughout all the verse and chorus sections.

I’m not sure if he played bass for the whole album but I thought dogs was done with a fretless
The outro gives it away that it is David playing the bass part. The fluidity, dynamics and use of wide swathes of the fretboard tell us it’s David.
9:26 so bad ass.
David makes the bass sound like actual PIGS omg this is amazing

I believe Rodger was the concept, theme, mood guy. But Gilmour was the musician who turned them into masterpieces.
Richard Wright was the link between them.

That outro bassline is simply incredible
David was male perfection back in the 70's.

Always thought the vibrato was very lead guitarist like.

Love how it kinda sounds like pigs
Thank you

Thanks for uploading this, best quality I have heard of this stem. Which led me to trying to recreate it in a clip on my channel. Thanks so much 🙏🏻❤️

one go

Once a pissed David said " Bass players are a dime a dozen"
So are Guitar Players, Drummers, etc. But amazing songwriters are far and few

Not that crazy at all. Roger isn’t that good of a musician but he’s an amazing songwriter. Most great guitarists can easily play bass.

David must have been listening to a lot of 70s funky bass, because this is super slappy funky playing, not really PF style
