You are the king of grafting! I enjoy your videos and have learned so much watching, A. J. Thank you for the great quality video and your love and knowledge of fruit trees.
Thanks for showing how it's done! Looks so easy it gives me hope. Those leaves bursting through the tape are beautiful, it must feel great. And then to have so many different varieties on one tree!
Thanks for showing us how to graft an avocado tree. We really appreciate your kindness. I will definitely subscribe to your channel. Have a great day! .
I recently planted a nabal avocado in my yard. I can’t wait til it fruits. There are only a few videos on youtube mentioning this variety, glad to hear you talk about it. Great video thanks for keeping it 100
I successfully graft citrus and plumb trees but as yet I failed 100% with avocado, around zero out of 25. I thought maybe I was trying too early in the season, now in NZ is a very strong growth period, so today I will have another go. I wont give up but struggle to find a logical explanation. Well done with your grafting, I envy your availability of multi varieties of scion wood. Robert
You make it look so simple to do which is motivating. I’m also interested in the post grafting care of the plant, especially with respect to watering and nutrition
Thanks. I’ll be doing a post grafting care video soon, but in general once a graft takes, I water and fertilize the tree normally. No real special attention needed
you probably dont give a shit but does anyone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Allan Junior thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Thank you. Your passion clearly shows. we chefs mainly deal with the Hass. I was unaware of these other varieties as you have pointed out. Also not sure if i can get them in Australia. If anyone knows i am very interested so please message if you have some information for me. Cheers Ajmal.
I live near Auckland in NZ, and I successfully graft many types of fruit trees, but Im struggling with avocado, I take so much care, but no luck as yet. lol I will keep trying
Hi A.J.! Thx for the great videos. I’ve been subscribed and a fan for some time. I live in NE Florida (Zone 9B) and have been experimenting with creating “multi-cado” trees like some of yours. I’m using cold tolerant varieties as we sometimes get down into the 20’s here. On one of my two year old seedlings I grafted Brogdon, Mexicola Grande, James Bacon, and Lila scions. All except the Lila are thriving (the Lila scions spent too much time in the mail and were in bad condition when I received them). Have you had any luck with bud grafting? Five out of five of mine died. I had much higher success with cleft and veneer grafts.
Thanks for watching and following my channel. I’ve had limited success with bud grafting. I don’t do it anymore. Glad to hear you’re creating multigrafted avo trees!
Awesome informative video, really appreciated. Thank you! Because of my inexperience, I overwatered my avocado tree and it died ( or so I thought) from root rot. Months after I stopped watering it I realized that it was actually alive and had started growing up from the very bottom, since the rest of the tree (graft included) is dried. The new branch is about a foot below the grafting. Do I need to graft it again? Thank you!
From what I've read online, You shouldn't be looking for a smooth edge, but rather the highest chance for the cambium layers to make contact. Different depths of the cambium layers is probably why that one failed. In other words, it's best to make the graft a little crooked, since that pretty much guarantees that the cambium will touch at at least 2 points :)
Very good information, and easily presented. Loved the Research College info. That was the Bonus! Would love to know the best siem wood to graft upon. You said Holiday variety, any others?
After watching your step by step demonstration of grafting, I decided to give it a try. However, I have no access to scions up here in extreme Northern California (almost Oregon). So I had to resort to ordering online. The scions appeared to be in decent shape so I excitedly gave it a try. Sadly none of them made it. I wondered about timing. It was spring, (April) but our nights are still rather cool. Any suggestions?
Thanks for this. I was an irrigator in the fallbrook area of Ca 45 years ago when there were Reed and Fuerte grove., Many thousands of acres were planted later in the Hills west of Temecula and most of that was Hass because they were smaller so you could get more out of each acre and sell them for the same as a huge reed or the Fuerte which was my personal favorite.
Hello...I'm an avocado grafter from NZ. I've just found your channel and Im gonna check out your stuff....hey do you field graft more than one variety onto trees? Have you seen them fruiting different varieties on the same trees?
Great videos. I really want to graft some of the rare varieties you’ve shown onto my trees, but have no idea where to get the scion wood. I also live in Southern California (South Bay - LA County). Any suggestions on where to get the scion wood would be really appreciated.
