The Ferrari board would never take responsibility for any problems, they are to powerful in Italian sport and media. I think that by the end of next season, Vasseur will be scapegoated as well
@Atlanticway.stories nah, they're behind, on reliability and also on power, the chassis seems to be better than it looks, so, maybe... Maybe Binotto would help at Alpine. An italian guy working on non italian environment? Even that's still a european latin environment, maybe he can develop himself better far from Ferrari, or teams like Alfa Tauri (Romeo), Haas or whatever with a bunch of italians with that "my corner" mentality
As you say, Binotto was not the issue with Ferrari. I think he's an exceptional mind that Ferrari will regret firing. Hopefully, he can get more autonomy than he had at Ferrari, and can pick who he wants to work with. IDK, if he can make Alpine a champion until he's given time to fix the team. I don't think he will be given the time though.
I'm not sure he ever had that much Autonomy at Ferrari but I think Alpine will give him even less. The wave of firings shows that the board are probably way to involved in things they don't understand. How long do you think he will last?
I don't know about Binotto I'm sure he's credible in his best skill - engines, but he always seemed out of place as a team principal, and he certainly was unable to hire and fire the right people while he was there...
Binotto wasn't THE problem at Ferrari but he was certainly the most public of them. A few absolutely bone headed strategy decisions that cost the team severely and in front of the whole world are probably the impetus for his exit from the team. I think he'd be great with Alpine.
My problem with him at Ferrari was that he always defended the strategy when things went wrong which was mad. The Silverstone one was especially bad when he claimed there wasn't time to pit Charles but the data proved there was loads of time and he just straight up denied it.
Binotto can build a car that we know and Alpine don't have too many strategic blunders. The problem is the problem Binotto faced with Ferrari management inserting themselves will be just the same at Alpine.
If not worse! Getting rid of Prost was a sin! Not giving Otmar enough time another one. And it just seems like the board members of the car company are using F1 to generate interest in Alpine cars which doesn't seem to be too effective. Binotto would have to have one hell of a contract stating he be left alone to improve things. Honestly, I don't even see him going there let alone given the opportunity to pull it off. The French Ferrari indeed.
yes, and a lot of unluck too :/ Australia was madness and if I was Alpine I would sue FIA for what they did and ask to keep the grid before the restart and the crash. Then, an other double DNF because of Jo... and what I don't understand is that for the same action, Bottas earned by 10s and 1 point on the license driver, where Jo earned only 5s... wtf ? Without all of this, I did the math, Giving them full point for Australia, after all there was not enough lap to do anything, and doesn't count Carlos penalty too for this GP, and so reduce McLaren point too. And then the other 2 DNF and giving them what could be possible, no overrating, and based on starting position on the grid and final position in the previous GP. With all of this, Alpine would be above Mclaren, and Mclaren would be today close to match them, very close, only 4 points because they didn't earn a lot at the start of the season and then did some great result recently and earn a lot. I know that what is done is done, but without Australia, things would be so different, and it's FIA fault !
Why does a factory team require outside investments? A $200M investment will last 6 months if they are lucky and then what? Not a fan of Andretti in F1 but it seems that if Andretti purchased Alpine that may be best for everyone involved.
It isn't quite a non-compete. He is allowed to go to another team in 2024, Ferrari are just paying him not to in 2023. It's like he is having a year's paid leave
Renault and French management should have worked wonders but doesn't seem so. Maybe Renault and American Andretti managing plus some people from Hollywood backing financially could? Mattia Binotto I think works best as the head of chief technical of engine development than being a head prinicipal.
Although Binotto might not be the problem in Ferrari, I don't think he is the solution to Alpine. He will not have the power to make the required decisions in the current Alpine structure.

Yeh the Alonso and Piastri thing really ended Otmar's time at Alpine. It's a shame but if either driver was underperforming, they would be cut without a second though so I understand why they would leave without another thought as well
Binotto is definitely a step in the right direction to turn this team around. He has the technical know how and management experience but its gonna take more than that. He's got to have proper backing and a potent support staff to get the job done. So I hope there is more plans at work to address those things as well. Also, if De Meo wants to link Alpines colors with feelings of passion and give the French people a symbol to cheer for he's going to have to get rid of the current team colors.
