PS2 Mortal Kombat 2 on Midway Arcade Treasures 2, that’s a lot of 2’s!

- Some people will claim these games are MADE for CRT’s, well… they aren’t wrong. While they definitely look better on them some people will just say that bigger is better. Be your own judge and watch as I play through MK2!
Enjoy!
Oh and, there’s several other PS2 games that I would like to revisit. Watch the ending as I give choices for future play throughs IF you’re interested. Thank you. - Игры
Don't ask for permission, You play the games, we will watch it. Great content!
Lol I like to please the audience, I’m still blown away people watch my videos 😂

Love the CRT 📺
That CRT with the VCR/DVD is awesome! Bring those types back!!
When I started watching Darryl I thought all he needed was a CRT, but I never voiced it here. He read our minds.
PS2 Games on CRT TV looks amazing. I want it that way.
The GOAT of MK RUclips channels 🫡
You’re too kind James, I appreciate you 👊🏼
This is why I hope Midway or Boon sees his channel and maybe send him to the Mortal Kombat HQ because he is a super fan!! Anything can happen and you never know because he’s so passionate about these classic Mortal Kombat games by sharing his gameplay videos done in so many different ways to the world.
Nice to see someone else who misses all the same childhood tech as me. I’m getting a CRT tv soon, just got a VCR recently and of course been enjoying all the arcade classics on my arcade cab and fightcade. 👍👊
I saw that “tehdrewsus” guy complaining on his discord about you because you get more views than him and have more subs. He basically deletes any comment that celebrates your content or anytime one of their member posts something in his discord channel, he threatens to ban them lol.
You’re a cool dude with a genuine passion. That’s why people sub to you and enjoy your comment. This “Drewsus” guy can’t wrap his head around this concept.
He acts like because he organizes a tournament in Ohio every year that the FGC/eSports and especially the MK community should roll out the red carpet for him but he needs to accept the fact that he will always carry EWAShock’s water bottle.
I find that hard to believe I’ve had nothing but good interactions with the guy and I’ve never heard him say anything malicious towards me.
Bought a ps2 on eBay just to play games like this reminiscent of the old times. Cheers 👌🏽
I'm so glad arcade 1up made us recreations of these sweet games!
Me too my friend, me too 👊🏼
Thanks for blessing us with the PS2 BIOS boot
Ohhhhh I loved Midway's Arcade Treasures 2 because of Mortal Kombat II! That was my go to for my travels whenever I went away on vacations. I would bring my slim PS2 and a few games with it. To me, that is Midway's best Arcade collections all on one disk.
Heh. My bros and I used to do that on vacation. 💪
CRT is definitely the way to display classic MK gameplay. I enjoyed playing this same Emulation of MK2 on the MK Shoalin Monks disc. Always a good time.
Yep and you were the one who reminded me of that Shaolin Monks version, which is the exact same as this one by the way. Thanks for the comment dude 👊🏼
Yeap also when playing via CRT TV all the latency aren't there, you get better pixel perfect picture, controls are solid accurate, and the scanlines makes a lot of the background layers and transparency look stunning. If you play this on an HDTV via an upscaler or emulator a lot of those charms were lost or altered.
There was one of those PS2 versions that had emulation issues- maybe the Shaolin Monks version that was hidden. I remember CPU Kung Lao being invincible during his teleport, Kitana being even faster than normal, and the Start button not being mapped which prevented reaching Smoke.
I've wanted to play around with the EJB code to see what happens, but haven't yet.
Shaolin Monks version is the same as this one
The EJB code doesn't work on these home ports. All the EJB code do is allow you to access the DIP Switch menu in the case if there's something wrong with the actual physical DIP Switches on the actual arcade cabinet. It's not some super secret feature, just a kind of emergency alternative to accessing the DIP Switches. It's the same thing like a door unlock code, some door could be install with a door lock pad which you could either open with a key or a code. The door lock pad had a code register in there so you could enter to unlock the door in the case if you ever lose the key to open it.
Shaolin Monks has the very same Midway Arcade Treasures 2 emulator for Mortal Kombat 2, and the very same emulator from the collection is used in the special edition of MK Armageddon for Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (and for UMK3, the EJB menu is actually useful if you plan to use Ermac, Millena and/or Classic Sub-Zero... but you still need a 2nd controller like the Ultimate Kombat Kodes... except is much less annoying to input the EJB menu code than the Ultimate Kombat Kodes)
I think the reason u got so many likes on ur game plays is cause we can relate u look like one of us a normal working guy playing the games he loves the way we all used to play them. Its wholesome 😌
i did have this game but on psp called Midway Arcade Extended Play and it had MK1, 2, and 3. That was for sure always in my psp as a kid
This game (Arcade Treasures 2) was so sorely underrated back in the day, such immense value for a kid back in the 2000s, played it non-stop and took it to all my friends houses. Always thought it was a damn shame umk and mk1 were missing.
I loved them when they came out, I played them over and over. As for MK1 I was fortunate because I picked up the MK Deception Platinum version which included MK1 as a bonus disc as well. I didn’t get the UMK3 bonus disc however that came out with MK Armageddon, I’d love to find that version.
Would love to see you do a playthrough of the 3d era Mortal Kombat
Awesome tv buddy 😎!!! more of those console anthologies pleaseee!!!
Thanks Tasos, will do! 👊🏼
Bought back some nostalgia with this video👌👌 never ask for permission you play what you want to play 👍
Got this same one on my PS2
hi darryl, curious to see your game room and consoles collection. would you be comfy in sharing it on a future video?
Creepy
Hey Xaf, I did actually show a bit of a room tour but because it’s more private to me and a work in progress I made it members only. I could send you an unlisted version of it if you want just DM me on IG 👍🏼
@@BushyStallion no problem! It’s not a big deal. Was always curious since i do notice in the back ground that you are other cabs aside from MK.
😂 This is a classic way and view on watching your friends play video games back in the day…. God, I miss those carefree days!
I try to live some of that nostalgia every day, this world has gotten crazy and I miss the good ol’ days lol
Man I'd love to see you play NARC!
I did a play through of Narc in its entirety a few months ago 👊🏼
@@BushyStallion Gotta find that. NARC needs to be added to the Arcade1Up Midway cabs.
I still have this collection. It may be a little on the fast side, but loved playing MK2. My favorite.
can't go wrong with the old school
Dope channel. Always good to go back. Thinking about playing some street of rage 2
I just subscribed
MKII was my favorite MK game. Don't really care for the new MK's.
I remember the local arcade had this along with another screen high above for others to watch as it was packed with ppl wanting to have a turn.
The SNES and Sega versions weren't that great. This Arcade Treasures was a great port I had it on Xbox.
Awesome video dude !
Love the PS2 good video, never did beat Mortal Kombat 2. I see you got also one of my favorite PS2 games capcom classic collection in the PS2 stack very nice.
Thank you, and yep Capcom Collection has a great variety of games on it. I always find myself playing Ghouls and Ghosts on these and I can still smell the convenience store I used to play it in. So long ago…
this channel had a good run! thanks for the memories
Thanks dude 👍🏼🫡
Mortal Kombat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...2 😁 Umk 3 still one of my favorite fighting games of all time!
Had allot of fun with mk deception konquest 20yrs ago. I want to replay it for a while now, but keep procastinating ^^
At the time of this collection release, these are the closest arcade to home port but at the same time these came out at a time when arcade is basically dead so not many player bother with it. The fact that these are exact arcade port also means console exclusive contents like Endurance Mode and Fergality were not implemented. Another thing is Mortal Kombat 1 was suppose to be included in with MK2 and MK3 for the collection as well but Midway at the time took that out of the collection and instead make it as a special bonus for those who purchase the MK Deception: Special Edition.
If your crt takes component... its worth the upgrade
Reminds me of the days where i would have to wait for the controller until my friend loses lol
Good memories 👊🏼
Great video as always! Regarding the ending, I’ll be happy if you put any videos out regarding those classic games.
Especially Deception!
Great video!
This version was never talked about, it was for Xbox, GameCube and ps2, the only thing that it is missing is certain sounds., We still never got a perfect arcade version of MK1. The Arcade collection is still missing sounds, backgrounds effects and sprite size. Mortal Kombat 4 was never remastered or released , the N64 and PS1 versions are cool.
The MS-DOS version of Mortal Kombat is very close to being arcade perfect. Far better than any of the other versions.
@@bradallen8909 But it had load times which slow down the pace of the game and you had to constantly swap floppy.
@@VOAN It had zero load times, and it certainly wasn’t playable from floppy disks. Maybe you’re thinking of the Amiga version.
I have this version. Love playing it. Looks great on a CRT.
I played a lot of this in the Gamecube version of the game, even flawed it's still decent to play
Parabéns vc joga muito bem, também tenho essa Coletanea sensacional !!
Do as you like man. Its your channel.
By the way, Awesome gameplay dude
Thanks Seanski I appreciate it 🙏🏽
@@BushyStallion no problem man
MK2 still looks awesome and moves fast and not just on its dedicated N64, PS and SNES consoles you display, but in retro arcade machines and modern PCs too (official version from gog).
However I like umk3, trilogy, 4 and 10.
I was never much into MK2 albeit briefly played it in the PC in 1990s.
Did a full arcade playthrough of MK2 yesterday on an older arcade1up cabinet.
Scorpion and Kintaro were the toughest to face in the arcade.
Playing it without knowing the game or tricks I managed to figure some stuff out to reach kintaro.
But then the AI got cheap and the controls stopped working!
That's not an excuse because I beat umk3 on that machine thrice last week and after the mk2 run when I tried umk3 yesterday if took longer as some directional inputs were not working there too.
But after nearly beating kintaro and quitting it...I know in MK2 Shao is easy, I finally looked up MK2 playthroughs online and it seems that the AI I was facing was much harder and faster than shown online.
Some of the tricks ppl used against kintaro didn't work. Someone must have scaled up the arcade machine difficulty.
But on the whole for someone who is not an MK2 player a good experience, but beyond a point MK2 felt more like exercise! than fun unless you are an MK2 player.
But you can see how it would have been awesome in its time.
I always wondered what was going on with the shadows in the MAT2 MK's. It happens on the original Xbox as well. This is majorly emulation, but it's slightly altered so that it will actually run on this level of hardware. The sound is played at a very low sample rate, so it sounds much more treble-y and less full than the original arcade version. You would never really realize it unless you played them back to back. Viewing the actual files, the Xbox version has slightly higher-quality sound effects than the PS2 version - most likely because its CPU was faster. Either they separated the sound effects and music entirely from the emulation side and decided to run them raw, somehow syncing them up to the emulation, or they're just downsampled to make them much easier to emulate. If it's the latter, it would be interesting to see if the same thing could be done in MAME. I believe this is how they made it possible to play at all on 6th generation consoles as it was the audio board in these cabinets that was extremely difficult to emulate. Even MAME on a 1.4GHz Xbox struggles to run the Mortal Kombat ROMs at full speed, but if you disable sound emulation it will play at full speed or very close to it even on stock consoles.
I watch each of your videos just to hear the famous "ALL RIGHT"
Well thank you 🙏🏽 👊🏼
Very Good!
Never played MKII much on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 cuz it was too tough but I played MK3.
Well played my friend I also like this version on the ps2..ps2 still a classic console...
Thank you, it’s a great version 👊🏼
I got this collection on the GameCube, I used a Super NES controller via GameCube adapter to play it. By doing that it plays like a faster version of the Super NES game.
fellow fighter and smoker o/ hey man, even tho I've adored the position of the camera and such, it really sucks to watch on the phone screen. would be great if you've got a capture card or something in the future to alternate between "talking time" and "playing time", I know it's more work so yeah, just a suggestion
DARRYL , You are correct ,those were the good old days of gaming , especially when you consider what UBIsoft and sketchy Microsoft has recently marred DLC era gaming 😢😢😔😕ps- seems one of RAIDEN's yells sounds like "" Beat Aki's Dogg ! ! "', ,🎉😁🏆🏆
I think my quickest run through in this game WITH fighting jade was with SHANG FUN either 12:34 or 12:43… but it was brutal. Very aggravating and FRUSTRATING
This was a great arcade-perfect version of MK2, though it had one fatal flaw--The Start Button is, as with many other games, the Pause button, which makes it impossible to unlock Smoke. Still, it's one of my go-to ports of the game (Same for the vanilla MK3 port).
That issue was fix on MKAK and on the PS2 version on Shaolin Monk, you could fight Smoke by pressing the SELECT button instead of the START button.
@@VOANYep, those were also good ports of MK2. Speaking of which, a sequel or even remake of Shaolin Monks is long overdue...

Hey quick question, Is this game playable on a ps3?
Very nice! Das ist einfach toll!
I wonder if on PS3 is there a Midway Arcade Treasures 3 with MK3 or UMK3.
MKAK on PS3 includes MK, MK2 and UMK3
@@BushyStallion What's MKAK?
There is a Midway Arcade Treasures 3 on all consoles at the time but all the games on there are just arcade driving/racing games like Hydro Thunder.
Good ported version of MKII, but not perfect. The flickering of the shadows always bothered me.
Yeah once you noticed the shadows it was hard not to see them.

Good afternoon what up
That's that mame original

If you find the Sega Saturn version you gotta play it. Its vastly inferior to what Playstation put out.
ps2, arcade treasures 2, mk2, 2,200 views, etc...

I'm shocked that fat PS2 still reads discs!Playstation was so eat up with bad pickups from PS1-3 it was pure sad really!
Me too considering it’s missing the door for the disc drive also. But, it works and I’m cool with that 👊🏼
@@BushyStallion I used to repair these things left and right back in the day!The PS3 was so eat up with bad lasers I started ripping them out of certain model Sony Blu-ray players just to get them working again!Sony had a major shortage in 2009 and they was back ordered for months.I still have my 2 fat ps2's and the Magic Slide to run imports and backup games still in a box! 😂
Those emulated games run faster
They sure do.
This was one of the few home versions of MKII that has the original Midway Dan Forden designed arcade music. Other versions have watered down music. I have this, but I also have an Arcade1up MKII Deluxe cabinet that I didn't build yet. I have other Arcade1up cabinets built.
Dan Forden's work is legendary. Every household has heard TOASTY once in their lifetimes.
Looks so good on the CRT
youre everything i wanna be when i grow up. Bad ass tattoo, all the childhood goodies in the world, and a nice family.
anyways bro, nice video as always. I have this version on the orginal xbox it comes with MK3 i think.
That’s a cool comment thank you for that Dragonspeed! 🙏🏽 and yep it comes with Vanilla MK3 also which is a great addition 👊🏼
This is the only midway compilation I bought, because of the MK games, although my son loved playing rampage.
The Saturn version of MK2 is missing so much from sounds, effects, music and voices.
Like the PS1 version it's also missing the cheering from the crowd at Kahn's Arena as well. It only looks arcade perfect but is missing a lot of bells and whistles.
It would be cool if you did a Shaolin Monks playthrough.
"Just like the old times, the great times!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Oh how I wish I could go back…
The Midway Arcade Treasures 2 version of MK2 is the one I play the most. Just wish I had an old CRT to play it on. Still looks pretty good on a 4K TV using a RetroTink 2x and component cables, tho. Great video! :)

For sure, I use a conversion cable most times as well and do the videos on my 4K TV, when I last recorded a video for this version I labeled it Cartoon Kombat because I found it looked like pastel on the big screen.
....I've the arcade 1up Class Of 81 Just for MsPacMan SpeedUp Version ....After playing MsPacMan Arcade Via Emulation I See ArCade 1up Left Out A Ton Of Options , Cheats , History ETC
A good emulation if you ask me... which was copy-pasted in Shaolin Monks as an unlockable... as long as it's not the PAL/EUR version which for some stupid reason they axed the unlockable, also the very same emulator was used in the Special Edition of Armageddon on Ps2 for Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and on that version if you want to use Ermac, Millena or Classic Sub-Zero, you better input the EJB menu to pick the unlock characters option (especially if you only have a single controller), I can't remember if in MK3 it has that option for Cyber-Smoke, as it would be a pain in the gut to put the Ultimate Kombat Kode each time you play the game (ESPECIALLY on PSP/Vita as you don't always have a 2nd PSP or Vita or buddy with the collection for that... wait... yeah... I don't see PSP/Vita users have a good way to pick Smoke in MK3 without a buddy and excluding CFW shenanigans that allows the players to use Smoke without doing it like intended... which is pretty much the only way for most players in that scenario).
Is the low difficulty works in this version
It really makes no difference on this version.
@@BushyStallion ok I played Japanese version of mortal Kombat 2 on PS classic that version is much easier than genesis and arcade version for me
Wait until you connect your consoles to a CRT with S-Video, component or scart connection. It's like HD CRT. Whole different ballgame.
I have this and the mortal kombat game that came with the first mortal kombat game for ps2 and Xbox. All 4 discs.disc's. I have not tried friendship and bability yet , i used to have the EGM issue with the pattern codes to do some of them.
Nice man! CRTs bring back so many memories.
Do they ever. I spent half an entire summer when I was younger playing Zelda Ocarina of time on one and it’s one of the best memories ever 👊🏼
Oh frick I had this on PSP!
The PSP version is fantastic as well 👊🏼
I first had all 3 of these on gamecube and they all had a weird sound delay. Every game on all 3 midway arcade treasures. I have them on Xbox now and they run way better. Looks like ps2 is great too

I got a copy of this game thinking I could run it on my series X and nope it doesn’t run. I wanted to play Primal Rage. 🤷🏻♂️
I had that collection since it 1st came out. It's the only place with an accurate arcade version of primal rage. Mame has character "fall" positional code issues.
Neat CRT ! perfect size
Lol yes neat indeed
Thank you for helping me relive my childhood. MK rules!
I’m having a great time doing so, no problem my friend thank you for the comment 👊🏼
This was a great game for us during the arcade days and early, mid 90’s
Please put the camera both closer to the TV and more aligned to the TV in future!
All these years I have never tried of playing Mortal Kombat II.
Living in the 1900s was crazy son!
Well, it's just arcade version emulated by the software that creators of this collection put together for PS2. It is also on PC, but then again on PC you can just emulate original games with no problems. And the reason for why I'm saying this is because different old ports of MK games are unique. Like, they have some unique stuff to them. For example, Mega Drive version of MK2 has unique soundtrack and 16 bit graphics that gives you that retro feeling of old times. And that is why I love different MK ports. Because they unique.
You should play some of the 3d games for us
The shadows flicker on that version.
They do, I wonder why they couldn’t program solid shadows 🤔
I believe they use a very early MAME emulator at the time. Remember MAME in 2002 by itself still suffer when it comes to emulating certain arcade games as it still couldn't get most arcade hardware to function correctly, this is why there were no clouds flying in MKII Tower stage on the PSP version. That and the fact that the emulator is running on restricted hardware is the result of the game not looking pristine like the arcade.
Hey Darryl. I recently acquired some CRTs and found my PS2 but I cannot find my Midway Arcade Tresures 2 for the life of me. I live in a PAL region (50hz) so my version of Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 speed is different again. The MK Arcade runs at ~54hz. The best thing about this version is sound quality. I enjoyed your playthrough.
I was 8 yrs old playing this now I'm 40. If someone told me about MK1 from the future I wouldn't believe it man i want to relive again that period, 1980-2004 Benn 25 yrs old in 1980 would be awesome!
Primal Rage is hilariously bad and fun, and it has some of the funniest characters and dumbest fatalities in the history of finishing moves. Go for it!
