Word of mouth is the best advertising I ever had when I had my TV & Radio repair shop
Always trust the wisdom of a sawyer.
Thanks for sharing, nice to meet farmer too
👍
That last bit...loading up the logs in a queue for the sawmill...almost like you know what you're doing. ;-)
👍👍👍👍 just lucky sometimes
@@OutoftheWoods0623 - I think there has been a lot of practice to get that "lucky". :-D
Yelp. He's been there, done that enough he's wore the tee shirt out.
I've got a bad back I'm lieing down trying to rest, the opening line about not remembering farmers name had me in fits of laughter and now I'm in agony 🤣😕😂
Good evening Nathan,
I learn a long time ago that when I meet someone for the first time to say their name five or six times. Also, today we have cell phones where can put their names and address in our phone directory. That works great for me.
Have a great week.
WHAT'S EVEN MORE IMPORTANT IS THAT HE REMEMBERS YOUR NAME.🇺🇲🙂👍
Agreed
You aren't the only one that forgets names. lol My memory was affected by a car accident, and there's times I forget words, names, and phrases when I'm excited or tired. Ooh!! I have to thank you, dear sir!! (see? I forgot your name, Nathan).. Since I started watching your videos, I have learned a lot about wood, and the names of the markings found inside. I watched a video today from a Japanese man by the name of Yoshihiro Sasada. He owns a big sawmill, and he was cutting a massive piece of horse chestnut. I'm talking about 6 to 7 ft high big. 5 branches coming off of one end, and the diameter was probably close to 5 ft or more on one end. I found the crotch feathering and was amazed that it was over 5 to 6 ft long or even longer in some of the slabs. Thank you for taking the time to teach some of us tree "dummies", so we can find the beauty in every slab of tree we watch getting cut. You were the first one I watched and subbed to, and he was the second one. Iron and Oak is the third and last one. Now I can appreciate the beauty of any and all wood. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😊 Not bad for an old woman.. lol!!!
I got a bunch of logs, just waiting on my backordered mill, lol, can't wait.
I love your road trips!
thanks Alana,
This may be the best video for new sawyers on RUclips. Fantastic information that really can help a lot of new guys out.
-Ben
Thanks buddy
Farmer has the connection...and you get the 🎁...lol
😂😂👍
The most important thing I was looking for was pricing information.
How to price various logs and what factors affect the price?
People don't realize that sometimes supply dries up and it's these farmers that keep you going.
Great video. Keep them coming. 😎👍👌
indeed, very good point,
I think we're going to visit Tennessee and Kentucky late May. So beautiful.
come on down,
Hi! I was surprised, it looks just like here in Transilvania! 🇷🇴
Great scenery!
You are an Awesome funny Friend !!!
👍
You have good presence in your videos. So much fun to watch. This one was fun in a different way but nothing beats seeing mother nature’s secrets inside those logs.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video, short & to the point, BUT I was told it is advantageous to produce vids in the 12-15 minute duration range❓❓ however the short ones provide more assurance they watch to the end. Can't have every desired result so it seems. Like rolling stones, can't always get what you want.
yeah I just try to make a good story, duration I never pay attention 2,
Good advice. Things work out for those who keep moving.
Informative video, word of mouth is most often time the best way to acquire stuff!
Agreed
Agree. I’ve had great luck with a couple of tree service companies. They have to pay to put them in a landfill around here. I take them for free. Win win. I am extra cautious to watch for metal in trees from them, but have had great luck to date.
👍👍
Liked your video. You're so right about word of mouth. Started sawmilling one year ago. After a while people do find you. Pecky sinker Cypress is my favorite. Christmas every day just as you say.
Ty much
Great video Nathan, great information too. A fantastic way to get saw milling logs. Fred.🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👋👋👍👍
Whooo whoop, "Friends" 💃🕺 LOVE these videos - use to live in Gatlinburg 💓
👍👍👍
Nice Job
Interesting episode, some good life advice in there.
160k! I think 200k is just on the horizon!
Farmers are a great source for trees, I found 23 cherry trees this week a farmer took down just over the Tennessee line from me. He couldn’t find anyone to get them, I hit the jackpot!!
Nice!!!!
Amen to word of mouth. So far I have paid 0$ for timber as a lot of people around me don’t want to see these old beautiful trees go to waste. Development in the Pacific Northwest is crazy busy which is good and also very sad to see.
Nice 👍👍👍
Interesting and informative video!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching
Good advice
Thanks. Enjoyed the info and watching you drop the logs at the saw mill.
Thanks 👍
This is just what I needed on this rainy Sunday morning 😄☕
So glad!
Load it up!
Yes sir
Really like these relatively short educational videos.
thanks for watching
Love all the cats!
Yes, I am great with faces, names, not so much.
😂😂👍
Great idea..we have a small hobby business cutting with a woodmizer!! However,we try and stay away from logs around homes!!! Always nails or wire!!! Always run your metal detector over them!!!
Enjoy all your videos, thanks for sharing 🇺🇲
Glad you like them!
I see the siding above your log landing for the mill is perfectly contoured for the grapple! That was a clever design, friend! ;)
👍
As always.. sound wisdom!! A real cut above
Much appreciated
Great video, thanks!
Thanks 👍👍
Lol, I can't remember names either 😂. We've been toying with cutting out oak trees and milling them into timbers for our timberframe build. From what we've researched it can be done without bad effects. We've got lots of oak! But it's lots of work... not sure if we want to go the route or not..
Oak would work but would be very heavy to work with. I used white pine. Light and very stable
Nice job there “Farmer”. You keep this up, you’re going to turn into a RUclips star.
That's the plan!
Great vid!
Very true, I have a friend that I met because another friend gave him my name awhile back. I just got a phone call him this afternoon and he is bringing me some logs on Tuesday.
Nice
Thanks!
Thanks buddy
yep w o mouth but i agree on contacting the right farmer store! out here in france you can approach the commune mairie as well ;0), thinking about doing local commune sawmilling days too
Great loading on that sawmill......you've done that a time or 2...:) And you managed to work "christmas" into the voice over again...well done... wouldn't be the same without Nat saying christmas....
Thanks 👍
This video reeks of good hard work....that's in short supply in this country these days.
👍👍
All those logs lined up and ready to go....now I want to watch you cut them up!
Nice road trip. Good information.
I bet you watched a RUclips video to drop them logs like that.
Thanks buddy
Thanks for sharing. 🇺🇸
You bet
Nice
Nice video. Was kinda hope you’d give a little info on what you might expect to pay for logs.
Grab one of those Sycamore logs sometime and quarter saw that and have a look after you run it through the planer. It is beautiful wood, loaded with small ray flecks. It goes for big bucks.
yes sir, nice stuff
Nice! Thanks
thanks Terry.
dont worry bout remembering my name,, due to a stroke and alot of tbi`s there is alot i dont remember,, dont foreget the older ya get the more ya foreget at least thats what a doctor told earlier this week as i dont remember her name or wht day i eve saw her
I love your videos, and I respect your desire to keep dollars out of them. Can you suggest any resources on the economics of sawmills? I want to learn more about things like the Doyle scale, and the value of logs. How did you learn the money part?
forestry forum.com great resources there.
Nathan, if you ever decide to give up your day job, you can always look into doing comedy. Ha-ha!
lol thanks,
Word of mouth is best. It's a bunch of hard work to get your name out there. We got one we call the Crazy tree man. Lots of characters out there for sure!
Yes sir. Always hunting
Plot twist, "Farmer" calls you "Sawer"
😂😂
hey
Been watching your videos for a few months now and I’m curious. Where do you find the music for them? Do you subscribe to a royalty free service? Really enjoy listening to it.
Yup... :-)
Do you have any suggestions on where to find someone to transport logs to a mill? I had several japanese cedar cut down and my son in law wanted them cut into slabs that he'll use. The fellow down the road told me 3 times he would haul them to an Amish mill a couple miles from my house but never did come get them. Hope you have some suggestions!
I am thinking about starting a small vacuum kiln drying business. Is there a need for more kilns?
Would have thought you wood have remembered his name !😂👍
lol
How do you get the cost of the logs you pick up. Species, length, straightness, board feet, lenght time diameter? How about a video on this subject.
So when loading the queue, You dropped the first log to prevent others from rolling back and then dropped the rest on the mill side? Or did it just work out like that due to your order of milling preference. And is there no market for ash turning blanks" (1x1x12, 2x2x24,etc. I would think that hobbiests would pay more for lumber than standard prices. Also craftsmen who make tool handles.
What brand of grapple are you using!!! I use a frost bite brand and I just love it. Thanks!!!
Titan very similar to yours
👍👍
morning Hank,
If I were you, I would put up a white board. Write their name and # and what they brought for logs, because as you get older.......CRS Then as you stand there, you can look up at the wall, and remember!
Could you please tell me brand and model of self loader that is?!
So, I was always thinking I wouldn't mind being your friend. But now I'm not so sure cuz I'm thinking I might not like the new name you give me!🤔🤣
😂😂😂
Ol Farmer gotta nice excavator!!
indeed, brand new,
@@OutoftheWoods0623 I prolly would of forgot his name too with his excavator standing there looking all sexy the whole time
How much did you pay Farmer for those SYP Logs?
Log prices fixing to go up well my log prices are going up I bet others are thinking the same thing
Nathan, don't feel too bad about remembering names. If not for my work badge, I'd forget my own name anymore.
lol,
Are you buying your logs based on estimated board foot, size and length by species, or how do you calculate the value and does that apply to people like Farmer, arborists and log yards?
bf and grade
wish you were next door man would I have deal for you. I will getting a bunch of white pine trees cut around my house the smaller of then are about 18 in dia and the biggest will be over 24 inches. going from Mass to Tenn is a little far to trucking logs
Lol agreed
How much did u pay for that load
Some tree surgeons seem to think yard logs are as valuable as forest logs and it sometimes takes a while for them to realise that it is better for you to take the logs free of charge than it is for them to pay to rid of them
I find that true also
So, where do you get your cats?? 😆
lol neighbors,
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍👋
👍👍
Looks like the sycamore would have some great grain in it
oh yeah good stuff
You need a log truck
Remembering gets harder and harder to do?
Sometimes I think you think those are "Lincoln Logs". 🤣
👍😂😂
it looks like you drop your logs away from your mill?
Nathan, when you put the mill on concrete?😂
😂😂
To find, no. To get them where; more so.
I had to stop the video at the beginning to check which channel I was watching, the floor was sooo clean!! LOL
😂😂
You have been busy.....
Yes sir
Will u sell a number of grappleoad logs
Im interested in buying some grapple.loads
Anyone in north east Ohio i have some old growth oak thats about 4-5 ft across and a bunch that are 1.5 to 3.5ft. And some hard maple. One is 4 ft across. Both smooth and rough cherry ranging from 1 to 3 foot across
Good deal👍
There is a few other species too. Like some locust and such. 2 trees ore off limits. I have an old native guide tree that grew to have a huge L. And the only cotton wood tree I have around me. Other than those 2 we can figure something out
thanks for watching,
@@OutoftheWoods0623 thank you for making the videos boss hog
It's hard to remember names all of the time!!
What, no outtakes? Good prepared this time.
😂😂😂
