Roberts is such a misused actor now. In the 80s he was a unique actor. Tarantino or somebody like that could have easily revived his career. Its a shame
I think Eric Roberts was almost too good in this movie. He played such a convincing sleazy scumbag that studios were probably creeped out by him and didn't want to cast him in big movies. Roger Ebert even coined the term "Star 80 Syndrome", stating that "Hollywood will not nominate an actor for portraying a creep, no matter how good the performance is." Things are a bit different now and actors actually can get recognition for playing repellent and creepy characters (Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix both won Oscars for playing the Joker after all) but back then it was probably just too much for people to handle. And since the film came out only a few years after the actual murder of Dorothy Stratten, it was probably still a very fresh and uncomfortable subject for a lot of viewers.
Pow... o Paul Snider explorou a Dorothy Stratten, tah, tah, tah... porém, gdo ambos conseguiram enfim chegar onde todo mundo sonha viver fama... poder... SUCESSOS... o loko do Paul Snider atirou nela e cometeu suicidio... pow... por bobagem... caramba... cara maluco o Hugh Hefner tinha razao a Dorothy tinha ter se afastado dele msm... putz
Eric Roberts gave a stellar performance. He captured Paul Snider’s sleaziness perfectly.

Having that song 'But you had to be a big shot, didn't you' makes sense because Paul Snider tried to be a big shot.
I 💗 Eric played a great dirt bag.
It must have been hard for Mariel losing her sister at such a young age
