I just can't bear to look at face masks being littered. And thanks Erica for bringing up about characteristics of cigarette butts, this item is way being overlooked even though it's a norm within many cultures.
If only each one of us will do the right thing then we wouldn’t have this problem. People think “ ah it’s only one plastic bag, one butt, one can” but if 100k people does the same thing then you have 100k plastic bags, cig butts or cans. So wonderfully to see you again Erika❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this video Erica! We (the youth) need to raise awareness about the importance of being more responsible and mindful in our daily actions. Thank you for your heart. ❤️
i havent visited your site in quite awhile. glad youre still at it. i always enjoyed your videos and yes, plastics are a problem. in june of 2018 our texas supreme court ruled that single use plastic bags cannot be banned. plastic is big business.
The "rats" are coming out and leaving their trash because there are fewer people around to catch them. It is happening everyway, not just Tokyo. Which is so sad. On the cigarette butts - This is one of the reasons why I hate smokers. I rarely use the word hate, shows you how much it gets to me. Thank you for your effort Erika. Ps: I advice wearing a mask and gloves when you pick garbage next time, especially when dealing with cigarette butt and discarded masks. Those things have been in contact with a persons mouth, saliva, etc. You do not know if those things would be harboring any virus.
I completely agree! It's so inconsiderate to everyone. And thank I'm usually wearing a mask outside but just took it off to film. Hope you're taking care too! 😘
HATE people littering their facemasks. though the one you picked up doesn't actually look used, it still has it's new out of the wrapper stiff shape to it
We have Clean Up Australia Day here. It is only one day a year, but at least it raises awareness and many community groups of all ages participate. So sad to see so much litter- not just in Japan.
Thank you Erica for spreading the word. Tokyo still looks relatively clean, in comparison to french streets. Here, I feel like after 1 hour of picking trash I'd fill ten bags like yours. It drives me crazy. I can't understand why people behave like that, it's beyond my comprehension.
Yes I remember it being bad in Paris! There definitely needs to be more social stigma, but what's positive is that children today are actively taking an interest, so hopefully there will be improvement in future.
I love your content! Thank you for making this video - I am downloading the app now! Thanks for speaking out and for being so passionate about protecting the planet. 🤍
Hello Erica! I hope you are keeping well during this very challenging time. Yes plastics are not great but now with all the PPE so much is made of plastics, and we are all injesting it. So sad. This is a very good thing to do, but I just wish people wouldn’t litter in the first place! Like at home you wouldn’t just chuck rubbish on the floor would you...? Why do this outside (or anywhere)!
This is the coolest video, thank you! I've always wanted to clean up my local area, but I never just went out to clean it. I think I should take that responsibility after all this is over :)
Well done Erica, though I fear what you are doing is akin to trying to bale out an ocean using just a spoon. In the street I live in in West London there is a 24 hour drive in fast food restaurant. Even though the restaurant has large waste bins at the entrance and all around the building, people still drop coffee cups and food containers in my street. I guess some people are just slobs, with no sense of social responsibility!
Yes London is terrible with littering! At least people don't use as many plastic bags since they started charging for them. In Japan people are more mindful generally about littering but are clueless about reducing consumption. I think we need to strengthen the collective social stigma against littering to cause change. Thank you Steve!
Fingers crossed that soon enough all cigarettes will be using green butts (www.green-butts.com/) or other similar alternatives (www.brightvibes.com/1305/en/these-biodegradable-cigarette-filters-grow-into-plants). Whilst the concept isn’t exactly new, as is often the case with industries like big tobacco, change is inevitably going to be slow. If you’re a smoker and you want to speed up the process, most tobacconists (depending on where you are) should stock biodegradable butts to use for rolling your own ciggies, it’s a simple swap that can send a big message to the tobacco industry. Sure rolling your own ciggies can be a bit ... ‘mendokusai’ if you don’t know how to roll, but it’s much easier than quitting and you can get little contraptions that’ll do all the hard work for you if your fingers simply can’t.
the only time i have ever noticed trash and litter around tokyo is when its very late at night . especially around the Shibuya/Shinjuku Area . but as soon as 5 am hits it just vanishes .. Japan is so so clean . thats one of my fave things about the country .. but i do see alot of Cigg Butts in the back alleys . especially in the Ikebukuro area . good video Erica and hope you are doing good in japan . and greetings from Northern Ontario Canada
Think about all of the productivity wasted by taking a picture of trash you're picking up. I suppose the idea is to motivate user to do more, but it seems really inefficient.
Urban America: bottles, cups, paper, plastic bags, food packaging, cigarettes, broken glass and used condoms as far as the eyes can see. And rats. Urban Japan: a tiny half-filled bag of cigarette butts... and one solitary plastic drink bottle.
@@zam023 Most of the "recycled" plastic in Japan is burned so it's still polluting, and otherwise sent to poorer countries in Asia. All of the litter will end up in the ocean as its carried through rivers.
for the cigarette butts, maybe it is a desperate cause because the next day all the same smokers will be back, BUT if one smoker see you pick trash , maybe he will think about it
I joined and started posting on Pirika after watching this! Thank you for the heads up, and for cleaning up litter!
So glad to hear! Thank you for caring ❤️❤️

Thanks, Erica. Been using the app since late 2014 in Scotland whenever large amounts of litter have to be cleared away.
Inconsiderate people are the real trash on this planet! Keep it up! I just downloaded the app as well!

Thank you. Thank you. It really is shocking to see how much plastic waste there is.
I would recommend watching the documentary A Plastic Ocean on Netflix if you haven't yet. It's really eye-opening. Thank you for watching Keith! ❤️
You're amazing! thank you so much for this!
Thank you for caring 💚
えりかさん若いから知らないかもしれないけど。昔は例えばポイ捨ても飲酒運転も、みんな当たり前のようにやってましたよ。海外も国内も、たいてい昔ほど滅茶苦茶でした。。。

i am shocked.
and thank you.
Thank you for watching and caring!
surprisingly uk not many people smoke cigarettes anymore, hope its a worldwide thing because its a thing that needs to be faded out.
I got fined £100.00 for throwing a smoke butt on the street, so things are looking up :)
Hi Erica , it’s been a while since you uploaded a video ... I miss the you 😢
this video deserves a hundred likes
Aw thank you Bruno 😘
You should do part 2 love hotel
Did you ever create that ASMR channel you spoke about?
I actually deleted it because there was too much noise where I live - couldn't get good sound quality 😭

Urban America: bottles, cups, paper, plastic bags, food packaging, cigarettes, broken glass and used condoms as far as the eyes can see. And rats.
Urban Japan: a tiny half-filled bag of cigarette butts... and one solitary plastic drink bottle.
Japan comes second in the world for the most plastic consumption per person only after the US, so the US has a lot to work on.
@@EricaLion But Japan's plastic do not end up in the ocean, do they?
@@zam023 Most of the "recycled" plastic in Japan is burned so it's still polluting, and otherwise sent to poorer countries in Asia. All of the litter will end up in the ocean as its carried through rivers.
Who are u ?
Wow that's a difficult question. I'm Erica, who are you Carlos?
for the cigarette butts, maybe it is a desperate cause because the next day all the same smokers will be back, BUT if one smoker see you pick trash , maybe he will think about it
It was so shocking to me how they contained plastic, which I think many people have no idea about, so my aim is to spread the word.
@@EricaLion Ever seriously thought about engaging the problem politically, starting with stricter rules about smoking in public?
