    This is the first Fantom tutorial I have found that actually explains the recording process in detail( I was stuck for a while in pattern mode, as I could not figure out how to highlight & un-highlight patterns, in order to arrange them properly into a group.) Merci beaucoup, mon ami!

    Fantastic vid/tutorial SFM! I struggled mightily with these concepts, I still have trouble highlighting the patterns I want to group together, its a PITA to tell if a pattern is actually highlighted or not, I find it difficult to determine when a track is actually highlighted, seems to me that it should be easier to determine that visually. Highlighted tracks don't present themselves clearly enough IMHO. Anyway, I am subbed, Fantom is the heart of my rig, very grateful for this, the other vids and anything you have coming, thanks again.

    Do you need a Daw after watching this?

  • @shaunm1030

    Thanks. Would you say the sounds from the Montage are superior to Fantom, but the user interface especially for creating with the Fantom is superior?
    Also do you think the Akao MPC is better than the fantom for creating?
    Cheers

    • @soundformore
      @soundformore  Год назад

      The sound is always subjective, i can give you my experience and personal view; the montage is for me better sound, better polyphony, better sound transitions and effects. The fantom has problems with polyphony big time, the UI is easier and better to use but it is unfinished in many parts. The montage lacks of a sampler, the fantom has one but it is ridiculously basic… The MPC is somewhere in the middle but I let it go due to too many bugs… The MPC is also very easy to use to create music, easier than the Montage… and in some ways easier than Fantom, but it is not a Fantom or a Montage, more like a studio tool

    Hi Leo … thanks for another good video. The reason I came to add a comment to this video was because I just watched a video that asked the opposite question. The question that video asked was since computers and DAWs have become so powerful, are workstation keyboards still relevant?

    • @soundformore
      @soundformore  2 года назад +1

      In my view it depends on what your preferences are… For example I am happy to compose using a daw on my laptop and an external controller. On the other hand if I travel I prefer to have a workstation with me. Of course there are portable controllers and therefore you can take those with you alongside the laptop. A powerful DAW on a laptop with the rights VST3/AU beats easily a workstation nowadays… perhaps it is a bit of a hold fashion ways of working but for me for example there is something I like about composing using a workstation without a mouse or a laptop… a MacBook is really reliable so that is great. I find I generate ideas on the workstation and then bring them to the DAW for serious production work! But again you can do all of that on the laptop with a controller. So I would probably ask, what is your preference? And here is my disappointment with Roland, the Fantom G had a nice sequencer with tons of midi and audio tracks and mouse support, what happened to it? The Fantoms we have now in my personal view are not great when it comes to sequencers, but that is only my personal view.

    Specs say it has a 4x 32 audio interface. What exactly does this mean. I have a behringer uphoria 4 in 4 out audio interface by USB so it appears in my daw as 4 audio inputs and 4 outputs. So as Roland calls this a 4x32 audio interface. It doesn't say in or out which is which

    • @soundformore
      @soundformore  Год назад

      It has 16 stereo inputs so 32, you can record from each individual 32 zones as well…

    Nope, don't need a DAW. 10 years ago I went 100% hardware including a hardware 24track recorder. Computers are not for audio, but for audio/video or graphic design. Computers have made audio recording sterile, perfect and machine like, computers make recordings perfect, robotic...INHUMAN!!! I now hate the grid, and perfectly pitched, performed and timed music, hate it.
