  • Welcome to our Ice Fishing Crib! Let me show you around our custom built ice house that we use for ice fishing each winter. Experience winter like you've never thought of before. Fishing in style from our Yetti wheel house.
    We started from scratch with a Yetti Outdoors wheel house shell with aluminum frame, studs and insulation....and then we built the rest. This video features all the amenities that we built into our ice fishing adventure house.

    I don't fish, I don't even eat fish but that looks like so much fun! Great job !

    This is awesome. Really well thought out. That’s what’s nice about a DIY job you can build it exactly how you want it. I’d love to put something like this together some day, have a really nice but still relatively easy to move shelter.

      Thanks! It was tempting to just buy a pre-made model to have it all done for you….but the DIY experience was really valuable learning and not only did we make it the way we wanted, but it created a shared experience with my father-in-law that I will always cherish. The end result is great, but the journey added to the overall experience. If you get the opportunity, I encourage you to give it a shot. If I can be a resource for you, let me know. I’ll share a pretty raw video of our process when I can stitch it together. Maybe that would be helpful. Thanks again for watching!

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I have to admit, it is pretty cool to be fishing, sheltered from the elements in the comfort of a living room basically. We enjoy it!

      Thanks for watching and reaching out. I estimate that the whole project came in between $25-30K. The shell itself was $12k in 2020, and I bet we doubled that in materials and finishes plus a few extra thousand. I didn’t document that very well. I’m sure a new one this size three years ago was in the $35-38k range. I’m sure we saved $8-10k. A guy could go cheaper for sure. The bed itself was about $2k and the toilet was $700. There are way cheaper options. Happy to share any other details if you take on a build and have questions. The biggest reason we built it was that I didn’t love the pre-fabbed layouts, and this gave us the opportunity to design for our uses.

    How much would it cost to build

    • @newnatureadventures
      @newnatureadventures  Год назад +2

      That’s a great question! I wish I would have kept a ledger, but we didn’t. I am pretty confident it ended up being in the 25-30k range. That was 2020 prices before supply chain changed everything. Is that practical? Most would say no. But man is it fun! I’ve been wanting an ice house for 10 years. The used market is full of them. You can find them in 5k range and upwards of 50+k with sliders and hydraulics, running water, AC for summer camping, etc. But the new market on a Yetti A816 size (8’ wide by 16’ long + 4’ v front) you won’t find one for less than that. We were partial to yetti because of the all aluminum frame. Living in the north with salty roads in winter, rust and longevity is a big factor. There’s more value in aluminum frames for this application…..and it’s lighter! Not sure how familiar you are with the market on ice houses. But we, as mentioned in the video, wanted an open floor plan. We couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for in the pre-made templates, and so decided on the blank shell…which was about 12k. And we designed it from there. Then with all the fixins, and labor (we did ourselves, and learned along the way)….we doubled the price, plus a little more I think. As soon as you start throwing in “extras”….tv, toilet, eurobed, etc. the price goes up. All of those things are personal preference. I’ve done room makeovers in our house, but never taken on a project like this start to finish. I’m pretty meticulous when building, and overthink stuff, but I’m pleased with the result. This took us all of 3.5 months in late 2020. It was basically building a tiny house (sans running water). And it could double as an RV in summer. I wired it with an extra 20amp dedicated circuit run through the ceiling to mount an air conditioning unit on the roof in the future, but haven’t needed that yet. Anyway, I’m happy to answer questions. I’m no expert, and I’m sure we did some things wrong here and there, but 2+ years in and she’s worked out great! Thanks for watching and for your interest!

      Hey, thanks for the question. It’s called a “MaxxFan Dome” by Maxx Air. Model 3812B. It’s designed for either rooftop or sidewall. Hope that helps. Pretty sure we got that on Amazon. We had to get a 6” metal hole saw to cut through the aluminum shell. That was a little scary….measure 3 times, cut once…..and go slow.

      @@newnatureadventures thanks you for the help, got a shell coming so I'll be going through the same process, I'm curious why doing the led light strips were so tough? Any advice on that? Thanks again awesome build

    • @newnatureadventures
      @newnatureadventures  Год назад +1

      That’s great. Super excited for you. For the LEDs on the outside, there were a couple things that I recall. The first was measuring the sections and jumping the wire around the corners. I ended up drilling holes in each corner to connect the jumper wire to each light section within the house. I ended up soldering the jumper wires to the led light strips. Since there are 5 sections (2 in the front V, 2 sides and the back), that just got tedious. Then getting them adhered to the shell required multiple applications of a sticky silicone. By the time I was happy with it, the lights were encased in silicone. We got IP68 waterproof led lights on black tape (I didn’t think a white strip would look good on our bronze/brown shell). I thought one coat of the extra adhesive silicone would do the trick. But after doing that, it didn’t stick like I had hoped. And since the house is going to be in the weather elements a lot, I wanted to make sure they didn’t come loose. So I continued to apply coats of that silicone to make sure it was solid. I think I did it four times before I was happy with the end result. I was debating posting a really raw video of some of my process. If it would be helpful to see some of our process, let me know. I can also share any of the different supplies we ended up using. Good luck with your house! It is a big undertaking, but super rewarding. And I learned so much. Thanks again for reaching out…I’m happy to help how I can.
