Robbie has said he's bisexual repeatedly although he always adds "but I'd not actually have sex with a man" at the end of it, but he's admitted multiple times to being attracted to men and being "half homosexual". If he was born in a different time, he'd probably just be an out bisexual but clearly he feels some sort of shame about it.
Like most of the feuds surrounding Oasis, it was media fuelled and media driven. But what Robbie did was play them at their own game for his own fame. Unfortunately for Oasis, just as they were turning on him he was ascending to a pop stardom, one that hasn’t been comparable in the Uk since imo. He really was huge for about three years or so. Angels probably got as much, if not more air play than Wonderwall during those peak years. Towards the mid 2000’s it just got a bit sad, seeing them pop up in celebrity gossip columns, or attending the Brit awards that had lost any edge that it might have had in the mid 90’s, and so no one cared. I think Liam has mellowed out more and that helps. But so does knowing that your rivalry antics won’t get the press it once did anymore
@@abcxyz53 don’t think they made him suicidal, he was already like that from the get go. Oasis were close to becoming more of a nostalgia act. Even so, I think they have ‘outdone’ Robbie and Blur yeah.
I would agree, his first two albums kind of slid under the radar (especially his first) and probably most his biggest hits are on those two (especially his first album, which often gets over looked), but there was probably a period from 1999-2002 after he had found his feet as a solo artist where a Robbie album was getting more hype in the build up to its release than a Oasis album was.... I think Noel probably took a shine to Robbie a lot more than he let on, but like a lot of these guys over the year, once that shine wore off, he was fast to throw them under the bus, and as usual, used Liam as his mouth piece (this is one thing I have noticed since the split.... it used to be Liam that would come out with the "controversial" comments, and Noel would sweep in and look like he was the level headed one.... but since the break up, Liam has completely mellowed, and Noel has become something of the "bitter" one)
Take That was only popular in the UK (for me), only teenage female audience at the time, short relevance, & was mostly forgotten. Oasis was popular worldwide (and still is today), had impressive longevity (even after the broke up), & still a legendary band that's still listened by younger generations so they're still not forgotten. The numbers don't lie cuz WTSMG album still continues to sell like crazy on all physical formats & have massive streams on all streaming services.

Would love to get an accurate tab of Noels lead guitar since it is hard to see exactly what he plays and then Boneheads chords in the back. Cheers!
Robbie deserved his fame. Hes fun, goofy, positive, not shy, blunt which make people like him more then oasis reaction. God bless Robbie 🙏❤ he went through a lot to get where hes at.
@daniellefrancis1476 He would have to play an instrument though. Gary Barlow was the only one who played one in Take That's music. I don't know if the others privately played them.
As always, very insightful video. You did miss one dig from Robbie though, which would have slotted into this compilation really well. The opening 2 lines of his song “ghosts” - all about Nicole and digging at Liam….
I think the problem Robbie has always had is that Oasis were organic and true to themselves from day one, becoming massively popular and influential in the process. He was from Take That, a manufactured boy band who targeted their music at teenage girls. Fake, in music terms. It brought him money and fame, but was never going to be accepted by musical purists, let alone influence the musical world any more than a rain drop in an ocean. When he realised he was never going to be truly accepted musically, he fell back on what he knew - a cheeky-chappy showman act producing pop dross, still aimed at teenage girls. That's why his comments at 20:08 are so telling; despite overhauling Oasis in the number of people buying his records or turning up at his shows, he was still no closer to being accepted as a bona fide musician in the same league as Oasis, and that really hurt him. Love them or hate them, Oasis will go down as one of Britain's biggest, most influential bands, the voice of a generation despite breaking up years ago. When Williams hangs up the mic - whenever it is - he'll just be replaced by another manufactured, family-friendly pop star and largely forgotten within a few years. Great video, btw.
Wouldn't dare say that about RW. IMO he is as talented as the Gallagher bros. Love to listen his songs now and then, and even Noel underlines that RW has some great tunes like 'Angels'. Must be an unpopular opinion, yet it's my own.
@@howieboy62032914 Well, Williams will go out as having sold out Knebworth a record 3 nights to 375,000 fans which will probably never be beaten. Good luck finding a "manufactured" solo artist to do that!
@@benjamindelafuente1962 I'm not sure what you mean by 'vigent' but I said he'll be largely forgotten once he retires and he hasn't retired yet, although he might as well considering he's now making music for Felix adverts... That's my exact point with Robbie though - he'll reinvent himself into anything to try and stay in the limelight. Can you honestly tell me he's a pure musician when he's doing music for cat food adverts?
Especially with the Gallaghers. They seem to turn on anybody they get close to rather than let a friendship fizzle out or downgrade it by seeing less of each other.
JAMES - keep up the fine work - I've requested a few times but I appreciate you may not have the info...but you do seem to know a lot and have great sources. I'm fascinated in any serious stalkers or incidents with crazed fans the brothers had to deal with down the years. I've never heard the press or brothers themselves broach it - I remember reading of an obsessive fan breaking into Noel's house in the early naughts when he was away on tour, and Meg and his then baby Anais being there alone...other than that, there's not much else to go on...they MUST have had loons who showed up thinking they were Liam's wife or something...no restraining orders?? Unless their security teams were tip top it seems unlikely there were so few documented incidents with nutty fans...other than just random interactions on tour, but nothing out of the ordinary. Anyways, great channel - any insights welcome...
Oasis seemed to have a war with just about everybody back then. But I can understand why they might declare war on Robbie. Williams was one of those people I just couldn't understand or relate to. Was he rock or was he Simon Cowell? Who knows?
I don’t think Robbie is a narcissist as he has self loathing. Unlike the Gallagher brothers who are in love with themselves. They’re much more narcissistic than Robbie.
I think the first time I became aware of a fallout was when Liam and Noel got interviewed in the Christmas edition of NME dated 19 December 1998, when they were asked about "Record Guaranteed To Clear The House", to which Liam replied " I'm gonna be a right hard bastard now and say anything by fucking fat-arsed Robbie Williams, you can quote me on that!", to which Noel followed with "Tubby-arsed Williams".
Oasis attracted hangers on. Remember Evan Dando on the DM promo tour? Robbie saw the cool points to be scored by hanging out with Oasis. Then Angels was written and the dynamic changed
There's a funny (one of many many many) moment in Al Jourgensen's (Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Lard etc)book. He mentions Evan Dando hanging around Courtney Love and Al just bullying him and throwing him out of the room to do smack with Courtney, and of course, DO Courtney!
Jon Ronson wrote a book called lost at sea where him and Robbie Williams do weird shit like hang out with people who believe in aliens in the desert and stuff. Its actually a good book and Williams comes across like a realy nice open minded guy with a sense of humour. Dont like his music but hes alright
Don’t care what anyone says but Oasis and Robbie Williams music was my childhood and great! And their beef made good reading! Both sides got it, both sides northerners and working class fought for what they could get and both made great songs that will last forever! Not like nowadays where everything is overproduced with computers. Back then it was a lot more raw
I honestly didn't know that this rivalry was much longer-lasting and spiteful than the comparably short feud with Blur, but it seems logical that it was based on Liam and Robbie having a go at each other due to their relationship with Nicole, and Noel happily joining in. Jealousy is a powerful feeling that brings out the worst behaviour in us. Amplify that with lots of cocaine, fame, money, ego and tabloid media frenzy and you've got an explosion coming.
The Blur thing was mostly for the media.... as Bonehead has said in interviews since, they would regularly meet in the pub for a pint, while the front of the newspapers talked about how they can not be left alone in a room without a fight breaking out.... I think after that feud had fizzled out in 1997, Robbie was the next "target" for them as his star was on the rise, and (arguably) between 1999 and 2002, a Robbie Williams album was probably more hotly anticipated than a Oasis album was (the feud pretty much died out after Oasis had got back on their feet, and Robbie's career started to flounder after Escapology).... I think major difference between Robbie and Blur was that he actually played the game just as much as Oasis did (for all the Oasis v Blur rivalry, it was always pretty one way with Blur never really bringing themselves down to that level).
They were so simular personalities behind the scenes and really should have shook hands by now and Robbie sang everything changes as the frontman for the take that single my sister used to work for east 17 management n the lads spoke a lot more than people kno
For a band whose audience were aimed at teenage girls Take That weren't bad. Gary Barlow played piano and wrote their songs. And those songs had actual words. I'm not a fan of them but they were geniuses compared to the rubbish that's in the charts right now. Now it takes about 20 songwriters to come up with a load of crap with the same few words repeated over and over for three minutes.
When take that split up, Robbie was not even the one that everyone thought would have a career...... most the media had made their mind up that Gary Barlow had the talent that he would get by, and Mark Owen was the one that everyone thought would be the dark horse who would go on to have the best solo career...yet both have hardly done anything as solo artists, and Robbie went from strength to strength. Also, Liam for his albums relies on a team of 4 or 5 song writers to help him (Liam relies very heavily on Greg Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt as his song writing partners)
@@clark82 Gary Barlow was the far more musically talented of the two - but Robbie Williams had more ‘star power’ (plus he had songs written for him). He’s just a natural performer, not a natural musician, that’s how shallow pop music is.
Robbie’s album Escapology is phenomenal, a masterpiece in Pop Rock I’d say. There are other great songs in his other albums but Escapology stands out. He wrote and co-wrote all songs with Guy Chambers, and his performance at Knebworth is kick ass. Folks may not like him as an individual but to (completely) dismiss his talent as a singer songwriter is silly to say the least. PS: Still prefer Oasis at any day 🍻
damn. i didn't know he was so obsessed. robbie overestimates his popularity. i'm in the philippines, 'cept for a few people, no one fcking knows who robbie is and i guarantee you no one can even name a song from him. oasis though was always part of the culture of growing up in the 90s. and from what i understand from my korean friends, they have quite the following in south korea as well.

@@mod4it87 he said he wanted sex and a fight with Liam. Obviously that was going to wind Liam up. And Noel was the one who slagged off Robbie off the most.
@@startracker5895 I love Oasis a lot more than the Robster and their digs at him were pretty funny to me but yeah they got fed up of him hanging around so went indifferent then got jealous that he was becoming successful (probably more so with them having given him more credibility in the indie / Brit pop arena , contacts ie Owen Morris , Tim abbot, music reporters like Paul marthur etc ) as they were dimming a bit and massively laid into him publicly for his weight issues etc. On top of that Liam was now dating his ex that aborted his (Robbie’s) child. Liam instigated the fight before the Brit awards by saying that he would break Robbie’s nose following the wreath he sent to the sun. I would assume the reason Robbie said he wanted to shag Liam is because when asked why he doesn’t like him etc his only reason is for the Nicole thing and them berating him. Liam is seen as much more as an alpha male than Robbie who is aware that a lot of people think he is gay so it’s like people like Liam wanna mock me for being seemingly gay it’s more funny right now to not defend that but say I wanna have sex with him. Robbie always loved oasis and Liam and you can tell really he just wanted to be accepted by them again. If he was accepted by them he knows he would also be discredited less by the public / oasis fans who copied their insults , particularly the ‘fat dancer’ which has stuck for years. When Liam threatened to break his nose I think Robbie just thought well I know if I put you up for a televised fight I know you’ll publicly admit that that’s not gonna happen and if we do fight I’m gonna properly train and likely kick your arse. It’s also an opportunity to get in the papers and get lots of attention , which of course they did. I think they all had a love/ hate relationship with the press and that was him loving some attention whoring along the way.
Remember help lines being set up for fans in crisis when they broke up?! 😂 I will say that Gary Barlow is a decent songwriter and what a stroke of luck Robbie met up with Guy Chambers to write all those hits he had. I don't think anything can really describe what it was like to see Take That fever at its height in real time, and of course Oasis mania and how huge the Prodigy got... Magic time to be alive. A sister of a friend on my road was a bit older and was obsessed with Take That. Every single bit of wall space was covered in pics from Smash Hits etc, she had tapes of TOTP, Mtv etc, every single bit of merch and I remember she got in trouble for staying out overnight to queue for Take That tickets.

So I would say Oasis have the better album history, but Robbie has the better singles history
I always thought he was gay.
@@leemcqueen500 Fuck knows, he could be and just be mega closeted due to internal shame.
He's a narcissist. The only thing that makes a narcissist happy is being the centre of attention. Liam's a narcissist too though.
Well he is married to a man
Like most of the feuds surrounding Oasis, it was media fuelled and media driven.
Yes they still had/have a large following, but their music by then wasn’t as relevant or interesting. I said the Brit awards had lost its edge.
Love you’re videos man. Big ups from Canada
And oasis are just infinitely cooler in general, take that are a joke
I remember when my Mom took me and my brother to see Take That at Wembley Stadium

Hi James! Love your content!
I was wondering if you could transcribe the live GMEX version of Fade-In-Out, both lead and rythm guitar parts and set up a tab as you did in the: I AM THE RESURRECTION: Outro Solo by John Squire & Stone Roses (+ TAB) by James Hargreaves video.
One of the best (if not the best) live oasis moments and i know you mentioned it in one of your videos too. MEGA!

I always felt like he didn't really belong in Take That as he was too individualistic.

As always, very insightful video. You did miss one dig from Robbie though, which would have slotted into this compilation really well. The opening 2 lines of his song “ghosts” - all about Nicole and digging at Liam….
Always love watching your videos and learning new stuff thank you
Robbie never could let it go deeply insuring mind
@@markstrekalov8156 What part do you disagree with?

Well, Williams will go out as having sold out Knebworth a record 3 nights to 375,000 fans which will probably never be beaten.
Good luck finding a "manufactured" solo artist to do that!
I mean most of robbies hits are still vigent after more than 20 years so you are not right when you say hes gonna be forgotten.
A story that illustrates that love and hate are two sides of the same coin.
Especially with the Gallaghers. They seem to turn on anybody they get close to rather than let a friendship fizzle out or downgrade it by seeing less of each other.
Good luck with your new album man💙✊
I am actually going to see both Liam and Robbie in concert this year :D
Noel is winning the hairline war
Robbie worked with Owen Morris, Oasis producer, they wrote some songs on the middle of the 90s
Oasis seemed to have a war with just about everybody back then. But I can understand why they might declare war on Robbie. Williams was one of those people I just couldn't understand or relate to. Was he rock or was he Simon Cowell? Who knows?

‘See you next week , yeah?’ From
Noel in that big breakfast interview actually speaks the most about how close they were around then I think.
He was saying he was gonna have a word with him
I think a lot of this has to do with Robbie Williams' narcissism and insecurity. It clearly affected him a lot more than the Gallaghers
I don’t think Robbie is a narcissist as he has self loathing. Unlike the Gallagher brothers who are in love with themselves. They’re much more narcissistic than Robbie.
@@daniellefrancis1476in love with themselves or in love with each other lol
Definitely Robbie needed a lot treatment for his OCD.
24:45 is one of the funniest clips of Liam I have ever seen given the context. They have no idea what he’s ranting about and it’s hilarious b
What's the programme at 20:10?
Great stuff again James,,thank you,,,,
Jon Ronson wrote a book called lost at sea where him and Robbie Williams do weird shit like hang out with people who believe in aliens in the desert and stuff.
Back then it was a lot more raw
liams face at 15:43 .. looked so disappointing and gutted lol 😅
I think major difference between Robbie and Blur was that he actually played the game just as much as Oasis did (for all the Oasis v Blur rivalry, it was always pretty one way with Blur never really bringing themselves down to that level).
hello, what does Liam said at the Q awards please ?
Do you collect Oasis promos? I've got a feeling i sold you my collection about 15 years ago

22:27 famous last words 😂
Oasis don’t play 3 Night in 2008 in wembley?
@@clark82
Gary Barlow was the far more musically talented of the two - but Robbie Williams had more ‘star power’ (plus he had songs written for him).
PS: Still prefer Oasis at any day 🍻
Robbie didn’t struggle with weight gain , he found it easy …
Take That we’re not and are not a ‘band’
