Full refund is mandatory within 24 hours of purchase. So when agent insist, I buy the return ticket, promptly cancel it when arrive at my destination. Greetings from lovely Cancun. 😎
I always buy one way tickets. Immigration has never asked me for a ticket, only when I check in at the airport. In May I bought a bus ticket from Monterrey to McAllen and they allowed that. That cost me $8. Also, there's a company called Best Onward Ticket. I have used them multiple times, it's a legit ticket, it's valid for 48 hours, which you can extend. You get an e-ticket, and it costs $12. So if you don't want to buy a return ticket, or don't want the hassle of buying a ticket and then waiting for a refund, try this company. I have never had an issue. Also, great customer service. I once had to buy a ticket at the airline check in desk, I emailed them and had a ticket in 5 minutes.
I never bought a round trip ticket for Mexico. I don’t know when I am coming back. The only problem that I have had was flying without luggage. No luggage means strip search in the back room.
I can see buying a return ticket if you're just going to a resort on vacation or somewhere for a short visit, but if you have a six month visa and don't know when you'll be returning, it's really better not to.
I fly 1 way all the time. Regardless of country. Haha😅 the only time this may come up is with visa/connections. Airlines’ only concern is that You’re legally allowed to enter country or else they Have to fly u back at their expense. Barely.
June 10th last year was when I used a passport for the first time. I flew to Mexico on a one way ticket and didn't purchase a separate ticket to get back home until the end of March and landed in the USA on April 4th to start the long process of getting my affairs in order so I can re-immigrate to Mexico but permanently this time. I was expecting to pay a fine for overstaying my tourist visa (one of a few mistakes I made immigrating for the first time) but when I went to that place in the GDL airport to get my passport stamped and to pay the fine the guy there just looked at my passport and stamped it and gave it back to me. Out of sheer confusion I asked him, "What about my fine?" The dude literally looked at me, shrugged his shoulders and said, "Ah, don't worry about it. No big deal." And I was on my way. I don't know if that was normal or not but that was my experience. :)
That is more common than most people think. The fear mongering you constantly hear about "what could happen" is always proven wrong soon as you actually go through it yourself. Thank you so much for sharing your very valuable experience with us!
A one way ticket can set off red flags to Immigration Officials, thinking that people will stay in any given country and become an illegal resident. That said I have never been asked to see my ticket in Mexico ( I am a Permanent Resident of Mexico). Remember there are Airline employees and their families and friends that fly for free, so they definitely won't have a ticket.
Immigration in Mexico doesn't care about your ticket status. Immigration has no idea what ticket you have or dont have all they care about is your passport and visa
A couple months ago I purchased a one way airline ticket bound for Colombia from Copa airlines, they refused to let me on the plane because of the one way ticket, citing that Colombia will not allow me in the country, and I risk getting arrested for trying to get in country with a one way ticket. I couldn't get on the plane, and Copa refused to return my money,,
Are you asked for a tourist visa from immigration? I tried to fill out a tourist visa but the only problem is that a proof of return is required but i don't have one
You are only asked for a form if you are given one on the plane to fill out. These days it depends on the border entry point. At many immigration points these days they just stamp your passport and write the days there and there is no more need for a physical FMM3 Form a.k.a your tourist Visa. I have no idea what website you are on trying to fill out something you dont really need
@6:11 i have been to Mexico city many times after COVID restrictions were lifted , always always bought one way ticket and when i have passed immigration i would buy my return back to the USA , am a USA citizen with a valid passport . now lest fast forward to this year in feb 2023 on a Friday the 13 , one way with volaris now i hope i don't get negative responds i have always traveled with volaris never had a problem with then as an airline , i get to immigration with one way tick that Friday i get this really mad immigration officer and she asked me were is your returned ticket ??????? i said excuse me ? she made me buy a returned ticket right in front of other USA folks , of course me without this information now . and i bought a one way ticket this time with volaris again , i have not been there since feb of this year i have family down there . never had this bad experience with Mexico .. any thoughts they might try to get me again i mean i don't see why i have to do it right there and then most of the time immigration would say how long your staying i would say one week they would grant me 180 days like whats up with that 180 is it no longer provided .. ? its convince one way ticket cheaper ..... yes but always fly one way al lthe time with either volaris aeromexico whom ever always one way ticket to Mexico city .. would gladly hope someone answers my question thanks
I think you just got a bad immigration rep and didnt know this information provided in the video so you had no way of fighting back. But long story short they had no right to force you to buy a return ticket. This is Mexico so she might even have some sort of kick back for each sale. But again to go back to the fact you travel to Mexico frequently and they have it documented is even less of a reason to harass you over that. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Also about the 180 days it is almost automatic unless you get a similar situation with a Mexican immigration officer. But as you already know this is a rare situation indeed. Trust me I've had my own issues at the airport too Mexico City Airport is notorious for being horrible. 2 out of the 4 times I been to Mexico City Airport have been horrendous, the other 2 uneventful. Thank you for sharing with us!
@@JoseArteagaTravels no thank you for your feedback .. i have been to Mexico city too many times before and i have not experienced this at all would go 100 percent with the bad immigration officer , now i will go next month on the 4th with no return ticket myself and family down there are very worried they might actually return me back to the USA should i be concerned about this issue ? i love this city , never would think negative about them they welcome me with open arms and that's what i take back to the USA with me .

Awesome! That is a smart idea! Thanks for sharing!
I've NEVER been asked for a return ticket and I've flown in dosens of times.

Interesting had no idea! Note to self always bring luggage lol
Exactly.
No, it doesn't.
Thanks for that info! Note to self: always have at least one carry-on bag.
I never thought of a return ticket, but I never planned on returning. ¡Adiós US!
Ditto! Thanks for sharing!

Great advice thank you for sharing!
Thats a 1 word answer: Yes.
Depends on the Country. But like I said in the video most of the time it is just the airlines trying to bully you into buying a ticket you wont use.
I fly 1 way all the time. Regardless of country. Haha😅 the only time this may come up is with visa/connections. Airlines’ only concern is that You’re legally allowed to enter country or else they Have to fly u back at their expense. Barely.
Exactly! Same here! The Airlines can shove it!

Many countries require proof of a return trip before allowing entry.
Good thing Mexico does not! Thanks for sharing!
Super I was wondering. First time I had a roundtrip next time I want to do one-way for flexibility. Planning to stay a year and leave to reset.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

@JoseArteagaTravels thank you this helps me relax more. I literally only have a passport. It will also be my first time flying anywhere
