Everyman Driver, I am an empty nester who has arthritis who doesn't want to row gears anymore but I still like a little bit of style - I was wondering if you could do a review of the veloster with the automatic transmission? I have literally watched dozens of reviews on the veloster and EVERY single one is on the manual. I realize that it is more exciting to drive the manual, but alas I just can't anymore, I wish more reviewers took the older empty nester crowd into consideration, we are older but we generally have more money to spend on vehicles than the younger demographic but are often not considered when reviewing any kind of sporty cars.
Love how you guys almost always include the back-leg room in your reviews.. it's one of the most major details i look for in a car.. and so many reviews dont include it
I love my 2014 Veloster!!! I can't stay out of it, if I get the chance to go the distance with it, I do!!! Best car ever!!! If you want to smaller sporty car as I did, went from a huge toyota 4runner to a Veloster, Big difference!!

A very underrated car
I test drove the 2014 Veloster Turbo and Genesis Coupe 2.0T (both A/T), they were very similar in power, acceleration, etc. but the softer shocks on the Veloster made the ride much quieter. The 3rd door and a little more headroom makes the Veloster more functional/practical but if you want something sporty, go with the Genesis Coupe 3.8

This is one of the only cars that I would leave completely stock.
Great review. My wife has an 2014 Veloster R-Spec. It is much more sporty. Better suspension and shifter. It still has weak tires. And it is lighter than the non-R-Spec turbo. I love that car. It is so fun to drive. It is a totally different driving experience than my 2008 Civic Si.

Yeah they are. The tires that came on ours suck though (kuhmos grand touring all-season) and soon as they wear out we are getting a major upgrade. It starts into a slide because the tires give up, the chassis has more to offer. Plus, it smokes them all the way through first gear. Nearly impossible to get it to hook up. Only other thing I am disappointed about is the quiet exhaust. It doesn't sound near as aggressive as the car is. I wish it sounded like my 2008 Si stock exhaust.
Interesting styling definitely love it or leave it. Looks to be a good effort from Hyundai but the open question is whether this will be a good car for the long term or just good fro a brief fling.

Want to decrease road noise? Turn on the radio:) that's kinda why it's there;)
A economy car with road noise? Fail.. and duh you'd have to use the radio with a car that makes almost no noise when you floor it XD
matthew clouser every car has some amount of road noise, especially every sports car and hot hatches, more so than your average sedan. so if that's an issue then perhaps a sports car or hot hatch is not the car for you, maybe you would be better off driving a Lincoln towncar. also tires have a lot to do with road noise as well.
No matter if you like the look or not, you catch yourself staring at this car.

With a aftermarket Cold air intake YESS!!! I had to go that route to hear that.. I think its smart that they silences those 2 things from factory..because not every one may appreciate that sound.. I certainly do...now!

You're lucky if you make it past 100k. '13 model has a tendency to have the engine fly apart.

Great review Dave - never loved the complete styling of this vehicle. Love the front and quarter panels, but never liked the grill. Looks fun though.

not sure how you got those numbers when both the turbo and st start at 22k before you add a single option, my phone and laptop give me all the technology I need I don't want my car driving for me so if that's your reasoning for choosing the Veloster by all means go right ahead

well granted that you cant have a laptop in a car, and if a cop sees you on your phone you will get a ticket. and also the fact that i went to the dealership and looked at ST's and they were at least $30,000, thats the reasoning.
I love this car but, I hate my non turbo. Thinking about trading it in for a Turbo

I think you misunderstood my comment I was being literal, in that within my everyday life my phone and laptop provide me with all the technology i need or want the only technology I would want from a car is an integrated gps sytem that's bluetooth capable and plays music. I could pick one of those up at best Buy for $1500 max so the when you say the "Veloster's technology is superior" to the St elaborate bcuz I'm not sure what you mean?

i got my veloster turbo base model for $23,250 out the door. for an ST you are looking at at least $30,000 and it doesnt have the technology that the veloster has

this car is more sporty then my current 2011 Mitsubishi lancer es 2.0L automatic stock lol only kick out 149hp. this kicks out more hp more then my lancer lol

Every other review I've seen for this car has been predominantly negative. I'm not sure Hyundai has what it takes to compete in the premium hot hatch segment.

It's only been a year and yet the the front design already looks dated. Give it a couple more years and the whole design of the Veloster would go the way of the Gangnam Style. Hyundai noticed this and updated the Sonata's very similar grille for 2014.
The Sonata's grill looked nothing like the Veloster

Yukon Echo what a dumb comment... EVO and STI (base models) are at least $10k more than this fully loaded Veloster Turbo. I mean, of course if your pocket can handle $40k+ vehicle then without a doubt STI and EVO are your options (I think that would be everybody's option), but when you are trying to compare $25k car with $40k+ car then it clearly shows how unintelligent are you when it comes comparison...
