    I think the engine idling at 2000 rpm when starting from cold is the modern equivalent of the choke. Something to do with a rich fuel mixture needed on a cold engine until it warms up.

    • @gerrit555
      @gerrit555 Месяц назад +2

      It's only because stupid EU regulation. And the choke from early bikes could be regulated manually. With the new you have no chance to change manually. I had the same nerving thing on my RS and also I have on my stupid Euro 6 car......

    • @mryorkshire3623
      @mryorkshire3623 Месяц назад +4

      @@gerrit555 Any engine would struggle to tick over when cold on a lean mixture. If you were to push the choke back in on any old cold bike or car engine, it would just cut out if you tried to rev it to pull away.

    I’m a similar height 6’4” and was reviewing your previous vlogs on the XSR700. You seemed to like that and had great plans
    I couldn’t find why you sold it on to your buddy ? Was size an issue … isn’t it always .. I know
    Can’t stretch yet to the z900 but XSR Ticks a lot of boxes

      Hi Rory, so I LOVED the XSR700, so much fun to ride and that CP2 engine is amazing, ergonomically it was fine ,didn't feel cramped at all but the bike is very skinny so always felt too big for it (being tall yourself you'll know what I mean!) Only sold it as I really wanted to own the Yamaha Niken! However my friend that bought the XSR700 didn't love it, he didn't like the fact that you had to work the engine to get the best out of it (he came from an inline 4 bike) but for me it was an amazing bike, looks so good too imo...hopefully u can try one out buddy, I bet you love it! Thanks for the comments 👍

    Hi Willie you’re right about the mirrors. You can see everything clearly behind you. No elbows, shoulders or blurred vision in them at all. Best mirrors I’ve ever had on a bike.
    As for the throttle being snatchy. Every bike I’ve owned has had a snatchy throttle at some level. It’s not any worse than any of my previous bikes.
    The fast idle is annoying, specially early in the mornings. I regularly start work very early and it does put me off using the bike for work as I don’t want to upset my neighbours!

      Holden did a V6 Super Charged version but are rare & only came out in the Sedan version.The Vy V6 Supercharged motor will bolt straight up into my car if find one at a Holden Wreckers if it a VS or VX Supercharged model have to switch the loom over as the VY version used a different ECU.Thought about buying a wrecked VS,VX,VY & switching the Supercharged motor & trans over to my ute & give the Supercharged motor new pistons & rings & different pulleys on supercharger while out of car & chuck a intercooler in.Could go turbocharged but would need to rebuild motor with low comp pistons as my motor done 181000km(113000miles) & could handle about 8psi of boost but risky could blow stock motor & pay to rebuild motor to suit turbo.Then got back into bikes again 🏍 & ran out of money🤣.

    Regarding fitting the extender..... I would get a piece of sandpiper and scuff the part around those sticky pads, create a bit of a key for the silicone. I'd also do remove the fender and do the same with the back of the it where the fender extender is going to stick to. Clean with panel wipe or brake cleaner before fitting. Silicone around the existing sticky pads, and use them to hold the extender in place while the silicone cures.

I reckon with the initial tickover as high as that was you'd be doing 40mph just by letting the clutch out. I know it's not really necessary to warm up modern bikes before riding off (in fact it's recommended that you don't), it's still best to at least wait until the tickover comes down to normal idle before riding off 👍

    In a market saturated with retros from various manufacturers, the Z really stands out and is arguably the cream of the crop. Regarding the high tickover, it may be connected to emissions regulations, specifically the catalytic converter. Catalysts only work efficiently when they reach their operating temperature. A high tickover might be used to enable the cat to reach that temperature as soon as possible. Normally, with a remap, you can also change all sorts of non-fuelling aspects of the ECU, e.g. when the fan switches on or when the rev-limiter kicks in. You could probably also have your cold start tickover speed reprogrammed if you wanted.

    Hello Will,
    The Z900 is inspiring in many ways, however for me it’s the stance of the bike, the frame exposed around the side panels that stop my over thinking, and complete love.
    I also struggle with the upswept, and angled exhaust system including numerous silver plastic brackets that spoil the design. Fender bracket/side panel forward trim?
    It over all looks slightly too short?
    I would think twin shocks at the rear would have looked better but then probably not a handling improvement!
    If I owned one I’m sure I would love this bike, Kawasaki have kicked it out of the park.
    You also chose the best tank badges and colour scheme! 😊

    right , lets make a start , -- as for the illness , i as well feel like sh---te , know how you feel.. , the chrome rail on the back is 100 percent , no doubt about that , next - the colour is growing on me at a great rate ;; the 2000 rev start up is quite low , some are 3000 , this is acting as an autochoke to richen the fuel mix , as you know modern motors are leaned down for new regs , so motors have more revs and fuel to stop stalling when cold , lastly -make sure you use a maintenance charger - NOT a trickle charger as a constant charge will slowly boil your battery dry ;;;

    Initial fast tickover just after start up is something many bikes do. It's to heat up the catalytic convertor quickly to get it doing its job. Cars do it as well for the same reason.
    It's actually not a good idea to start up a bike (or car) unless you intend to ride it. The engine will remain cold and you'll get condensation forming internally leading to internal corrosion and oil dilution. Even if you run it for quite a long time this will happen - only riding it, making the engine work hard, will get the core temperature and oil up to working temperature where condensation will simply boil off.

    Automatic choke.It's normal to idle high when cold with Automatic choke.
    Bike is looking good Willie.Put trellis up along fence line.

    I have a BMW M1000R and it does the same thing i agree a bit of a pain i have been told its so the CATs warm up obviously to help emissions but does make for a clunky gear selection!

      I forgot to say love your bike and did nearly buy one but after a test ride hated the snatcheness of the throttle totally turned me off the bike even though it had been a dream bike since the late 70s didn’t know there was a remap does it not affect the warranty?

      @crozzy28 The remap changes this bike beyond belief bud... its debatable re the warranty but either way the risk is definitely worth taking imo 👍

    My W800 revs quite high also when it is cold. Fact of life on modern fuel injected machines. I also wish the foot pegs were a little further forward for less bend in my 70 year old knees and hips. Other than that I love the W. The Z900RS would certainly be in my garage if I were 15 or 20 years younger. I do like the calm throb of the 360 degree twin and how it has such good low end torque which makes it a joy to ride in traffic but still has just enough power for other uses such as four lane highways. It wouldn't compete with the Z900RS but I don't need it to.

      @@2wheeledwillie395 I think the W800 is a sweet machine but I fear you might find it a touch tight for you 6'4" frame. I'm 5'11" and find certain things a bit tighter than I would like but at my age I don't want a bigger, faster, heavier more spacious machine.

    Bought this bike over Triumph ST because of the larger size and passenger comfort. A lot of bikes are too small for anyone taller than 5 foot 10.

    If you need to be under way before the revs drop back when engine cold I simply roll the throttle forward ( beyond the stop ) to select first gear and again whilst slow maneuvering or at junction at end of my road . Revs are always at normal tickover before I enter roundabout further up the road . It's less bothersome ( if any) than reaching for the carb mounted chock knob on my old 1990 GT750 . I've not experienced jerky throttle on my 2018 rs but I have got a juddery clutch as I move off that I have yet to get to the bottom of its cause ?
