I only recently discovered Unforgotten, and it was one of the best series I've seen in a long time. Nicola Walker was fabulous in her ordinariness as a human being, a mother and a daughter, while holding down a very important job. I was gutted when season 4 was over.
This shows what a great actress can do with a single speech in an unadorned rehearsal hall. Wow. Instant goosebumps and unexpected tears. Can't WAIT to see the full production -- and more of Walker's amazing gifts -- on National Theatre At Home! Thank goodness for NT capturing all these live performances for those of us who can't currently travel to the UK to see them in person as I did some years ago.
Nearly? Kudos. I cried very hard. And I don't cry easily. And I was spoiled (I had to wait months to get it in canada, and didn't know not to look it up.
I was just thinking; her co-star in ‘Unforgotten’ deserves a mention, Sanjeev Bhaskar. He played nicely next to her character. I find his voice very calming actually.
Really loving the increase of videos on this channel! As someone from a poorer background, you wouldn't believe how much of my love of theatre came from watching NT platforms and content like this on RUclips. It's hugely important and will have a massive effect on theatre lovers all over the place.
MY admiration of her stems from when I first saw her on a TV drama. Her slight hesitation between words is unique, and in my humble opinion, masterful. When the camera is close she makes you believe her mind is searching to form a new sentence, not repeating something already known.
Coming from an American, Nicola Walker is one of my favorite actresses. I try to watch everything she is in. Would love to see her in person! Thanks for the post!! ❤️
Wow, so much emotions put in one and half minute of acting. I just love her performances. I am considering flying in from Prague to see her in this play. I try to watch most of the things she is in as she is always brilliant. I do not know why exactly but she is my favourite actress. Probably it is her civil acting that attracts me so much. And her eyes are just mesmerising when she acts.
We'd love to welcome you if you're able to visit! It's such a special play - and we're adoring seeing it all come together. Thank you for your comment.
literally can't stand her, her acting is bad, always the same whatever she does, but I am sure she is a lovely person. I make sure I watch nothing she is in... This is my opinion which I believe I am allowed.
@@NationalTheatre Does that mean those of us who are international could pay to view the production? I would! (From Canada!) Love the idea of being able to see this performance, and support the theatre.
I remember first seeing Nicola Walker in Spooks. I thought then what an absolutely brilliant actor she was. Whatever she is in, you are never disappointed. In my view, she is currently the best actor in the business.
I've just watched this tonight on National Theatre At Home. So thankful to have this subscription and what a powerful, amazing performance. Actually the whole cast was wonderful!
oh my Lordy ...... Nicola Walker is so marvellous xx I love her in every thing she does ....... she touches something alive and soft deep within my heart and draws me in - a truly remarkable actor
Nicola is one of those gifted people who can transport you to where she is,and make you feel what she feels in whatever production she is in. I watched the whole first series of"The Split" flying over the Atlantic,it seemed the shortest flight ever. Wonderful talent.
Such a fantastic actress everything she does she does it with passion and it seems to come so naturally so believable and that shows just how professional an actress she is I love to watch her well done Nicola more more more please 🤩❤
I think she is an excellent actress. Everything Ive seen her in is captivating. Brilliant in lots of roles I must admit and is a credit to her profession. Absorbing.

So powerful, words and performance. I would love to see this but sadly finances won't allow it. Nicola Walker is most definitely one of the finest actors working in the UK today. Lots of luck to all involved for an excellent run.
I was so fortunate to see this show when I was visiting in London’s last week. The Tuesday show was cancelled due to Covid but we were able to change tickets to Thursday. Nicola was fantastic, from the moment she stepped on stage she made the whole evening worthwhile! I did have an issue with some of the understudies being on book but I am still very glad to have seen it.
I actually envy you, that you have all those series to watch of Unforgotten, for the first time. I loved watching all of them first time round. Enjoy 👍
Saw this production last Saturday, and LOVED it! Nicola Walker was of course brilliant, but others too...Alice Orr-Ewing, and the beautiful singing of the miners which peppered this production - just beautiful, and such a surprise.
Nicola Walker is my favorite British actress and I watch anything I can find her in. She is brilliant, her phrasing, timing, beautiful expressive face. HOW CAN I SEE HER IN THIS? PLEASE???
Loved her in radio Anneka, those episodes were brilliant and I keep hoping there will be more. Enjoyed her performance in "Last Tango", brave attempt at the accent but not quite there! (I come from nearby).
I want to see this I first noticed Nicola Walker in ‘Last Tango in Halifax’ I loved ‘The Split’ She really hit the big time - she’s up there with Olivia Colman and Maxine Peake
Love her!!! In America watching Last Tango over and over and over. Please tell me this will be simulcast here. We go to every simulcast from The National Theatre. Thank you!
If Hollywood was still making films that mattered, this lady would be a household name in the States. We know her primarily from PBS showings of Unforgotten, and Last Tango in Halifax, which show off her range as a leading lady. In the old days before the Emmys insisted on covering all (often crummy) media, she would have been at least been nominated for her brilliant work in Unforgotten. She reminds me a lot of Bette Davis (who played Miss Moffatt herself years ago) and Faye Dunaway, in looks and passion on camera.
Hello! This is a live play - but everything on our stages is considered for National Theatre at Home - so look out for announcements for it we stream The Corn is Green :)
Do For fans of Nicola Walker who are able to access BBC radio 4 on iplayer can I recommend a 6x6 series of monologues written by Nick Walker (no relation) and perfectly delivered by Nicola. They are called ‘Anneka Stranded’. An attempt to bring them to tv didn’t really work since tv is a watching medium whereas just listening means the character is talking directly to you, and you are able to absorb every wonderful nuance which Nicola brings to these tales. Please try them.
I don’t know how I missed it, but I’ve recently found ‘The Split’ Stars Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan as her other half. It’s a family/lawyer type drama. I’ve really enjoyed the first series (6 episodes) If you haven’t seen it, I think it’s worth a watch. From the second episode, it got me hooked. It aired on BBC television in the UK.
WOW: Even as a middle-aged man with a lazy younger wife, I get it. That was one hell of a rehearsal. As I recall, I enjoyed rehearsing at least as much as performing, since that is where the work is made. Bravo to Ms. Walker for a courageously accessible and accessibly courageous demonstration of Will. 🧸
Seems like a great performance. (Pedantic, but the title should probably have the phrase "any more" (with a space) rather than the adverb "anymore" since most people would consider "say" transitive here -- but it's not a massive error.)
Bette Davis was marvelous--perfect, really. Kathryn Hepburn was very disappointing (perhaps by comparison). Never got to see Ethel Barrymore. Love Nicola Walker, and sure do hope this will end up on film!
Saw it this week and in my opinion even nicola couldn't save it. Predictable plot, also an elitist one, her other pupils don't get the attention they deserve which should not be less because of lower potential, the write/narrator presence on stage is a conceit and confuses issues, the idea the players sit at the side of the stage when lines are complete reminds me of pretentious youth theatre from generations ago and the male voice choir is wholly under used, and their "singing" is really more of a hum. I've loved everything she has ever been.
I literally can't stand her, her acting is bad, always the same whatever she does, but I am sure she is a lovely person. I make sure I watch nothing she is in... This is my opinion which I believe I am allowed.
Nicola is a wonderful, powerful actress. I try and watch everything she's in, on stage and TV.

I thought she was staggeringly good in that TV series and I am crestfallen that there will be no more.
That series is one of the best Ive seen and that's mainly because of her. She is so natural and so brilliant in every part she is playing.

Very astute observation. The late actress Sandy Dennis used to do something rather like that, didn't she?
@@monelleny Yes a truly naturalistic actor even in high tense drama. Emotive but struggling for control.
That has to be one of the greatest compliments an actor can receive.

@National Theatre DCI Stuart in _Unforgotten._ And her episode of _Luther_ sticks with me. She'd also make a great M in a Bond film.
