- Dragon's Breath is much better than people have given it credit for so far. Infact it carries high damage rotations and has all the solar synergy you could ask for in a season which supports it so well. When its exotic perk composite propellant is utilized to its potential each shot spreads scorch, ignites, staggers and even generates firesprites on all targets hit.
The Dragon's Breath Catalyst also helps achieve our goal of maximum composite propellant stacks reducing the passive cooldown between highest damage shots from 27 seconds to 15 seconds. An instantly noticable difference. Ignitions caused by the Dragon's Breath or from any other source will also help reduce this timer even more.
Because of the fuel stacks required to use this weapon properly it is best utilized as a switch option rather than the traditional mag dump what is done by most other rockets. If you use this as you would witherhoard or Anarchy you will have the most success. Check out the clip vs the dungeon Grasp of Avarice boss for an idea of how to best use it.

It was never crazy op. It's an exotic, it's meant to be strong. People mistake it for being op becuz of it's popularity. But popularity doesn't necessarily equal op.
Before the unnecessary nerf it was in a good place and didn't need adjustment. Bungie only nerfed it due to popularity. If it was as strong as it was but barely any1 used it, bungie would not have nerfed it.

@@Godlage Somewhat disagree with that statement. It was not "crazy op" but it was still very, very, very strong. I think it still needed a nerf but the one they gave out was way too much. 2.5% energy per tick of damage, rise that to around 6%. 20% energy per empowered weapon kill, rise that to 35%
@@Godlage For me, calling it crazy op fits perfectly. Simply because I felt crazy op while using it in comparison to other exotics.
Me being the full time div bitch well-lock certainly played into that feeling, because my damage wouldn't be too far behind the other members of my fireteam (instead of barely even existing).
You're right that popularity doesn't necessarily equal op (ease of use and accessibility are major factors too),

Honestly. I can't wait to try this on a dawn chorus warlock paired with a good rewind round sniper or even a reservoir burst fusion. I've been too focused on the new dungeon with my titan to bother with my warlock just yet, plus being able to fire faster will only help if it's regening fuel faster from the catalyst.

Argent Ordnance sadly doesn't work as effectively with Dragon's Breath. The mod specifically states you need to not reload or stow the weapon for the buff (called Godslayer Warheads on your screen) to be available, but DB wants yo to do the opposite of that, similar to Anarchy. Stick then swap to another weapon to let the damage tick then fire off another round after a few seconds, just like we saw with the DB/Eremite damage phase on Phryzia in this video. However, I just saw a video on Argent Ordnance and it showed that Godslayer Warheads will stick around *if you don't stow the rocket but merely reload it* for somewhere around 4.5 seconds. Meaning Argent Ordnance, for whatever reason, works with basically most other rocket launchers than the featured one this season. Sadly, since DB is so strong for longer DPS phases I feel like it'll be one of the meta options for solo play but won't work in tandem with Solo Operative. Just a heads up so people know. However, if y'all can get this to work somehow, I'd love to be proven way wrong. Let's see that ridiculous OP Solo Operative+Argent Ordnance damage buff go off BAYBEEEEEEEE!!!
That makes sense in regards to argent ordnance, it wont be worth keeping the dragons breath held just for the extra rocket damage when you can get so much more by swapping weapons during the fuel building time. It will still be a great mod for weapons like cold comfort though
I know this is a dated post but I've noticed if you slap a DB onto a boss and spam warlock solar nades you have a much quicker autoload function. I'm able to get 4-5 rockets off in a single DPS phase on the first boss of warlords ruin. It could also partly be due to the adds nearby getting ignited but I'm usually only able to shoot 3 scatter signal shots off between auto loads. Also check out super Regen with scatter signal and unravel in a DPS phase due to artifact mods and on solar. I'm easy clearing 50% of super Regen in a boss phase by just using the unravel artifact perk.
i mainly play gambit and this weapon is absolutely a beast, 1 shot takes care of multiple blockers and it also does damage during the entire phase on the boss. this might be my favorite seasonal exotic since witherhorde

Using it with CHawk, Galanor or Ophidia (with knife trick) is pretty fun. Lots of ignitions!
Caliban’s hand is pretty good either way it, causing ignitions everywhere and getting fuel for it.
Great stuff, this actually really helped me understand some of the tech Dragon’s Breath allows and helped me ramp up my DPS a fair bit!
Also I couldn’t help but notice at 0:07 the Daybreak projectile the Warlock slings from behind you lines up perfectly with your knife throw and now I want an aspect that transforms Weighted knife into a one-use mini Daybreak after a condition is met lol
I love mine with the catalyst, and when I didn’t have the catalyst….learning to use it right made me get the catalyst; worth it!
Easily the clearest explanation of the rocket i have seen to date. Very nicely done - Once you unlock argent ordinance you will crack 3 million for sure. I have read some say 1 rocket uses half an armor charge, if so that would be pretty sweet for a 15% dmg buff. with the seasonal artifact, damaging with a solar ability weakens the target, and warlock & I think hunter? have a melee that can proc radiant will give solid boosts if a person does not have a well to jump in for the dmg boost

I got massively high damage (7 mil, rest of team w/ 4 mil) in the new dungeon this way with swapping to supremacy (even with very scuffed rotations), thanks for pointing out the strat! It's surprising how few people use it correctly

I saw this used in a solo flawless for the new dungeon on the ogre and I was surprised how much dps was going out. Used it myself and I got a 3rd of it's health in one DPS phase with no solo operative or the rocket mod.
One thing that most people don't know is that scortch isn't a set damage value, but actually scales depending on the initial scortch damage, i.e. start number equals big ignition number, big start number equals really big ignition number. Therefore, depending on what causes more scortch, you could initiate scortch with an ability or something big before firing dragon to get a masive scortch/ignition damage boost. Running this with dawn chorus will have to be absolutely amazing.

Necrotic Grips is the same; tick damage is increased based on the source - Using a Glaive melee gives higher tick damage vs just a normal melee attack

In my personal testing of Dragon's Breath without the catalyst, it is an meh to decently good weapon depending on your build and location being used. In PVE the weapon is good at getting most enemies, including mobs since they'll stupidly walk into the fire as if they do not notice the ground is in flames and be destroyed quickly enough once on fire. You should definitely be very careful not to be too close or you'll one-hit yourself with one of the bursts it does. lol! The flying enemies are where it seems to become meh at for me since most of the time they aren't low enough to be burned should you miss and you'll miss out on regenerating your fuel as easily. And as you pointed out, only one proc of a DB will work at any given time, so in a good team you'll have other good weapons ranging from Gjallarhorn and so on. I'm still working on the catalyst myself so hopefully I can revise my rating of it after getting it but until then it won't be my favorite rocket launcher by any measure. (The calibration part for the catalyst is so annoying.)

What people arent understanding is this is basically heavy witherhoard, so it can do way more overall dmg per rotation, especially with a dedicated solar build. I watched a big creator just shoot and not swap but wait till 3 stacks to shoot again, and called it bad because it couldnt out damage hothead + izi with wolfpack rounds lmao
The dragon Breath saved my life against Calus. Was using it in the boss fight in the end of the current campain, in the hardeds difficult, after dying like a lot of times, and shot one rocket before he thow me over the edge. I started to float using the jump hability of the warlock and he died while I was in the air, being consumed but the flames. The animation started with my warlock mid air.
I'm more interested on the rapid-fire fusion grenades. The hell were you using for that first damage check?
Thats from the new buffed apotheosis veil it gives fast ability regen for a short time after using a super

I had done some testing and any ignition as long as it is one on your team as the source will add fuel
Another creator going over this Rocket Launcher has said similar. So long as ignitions are happening, it gains the buff.
Should try it with a fttc vorpal/frenzy warden's law with lucky pants. It should put out insane dps though I don't have a good roll on my warden's law

i kinda feel like this another thing that can be annoying for a dragon's breath users is people running the artifact mod that makes solar weapon scorch when radiant for their apex predator dmg.
I have a question. Does most of dragon's breath damage come from the rocket itself or from the ignitions? Haven't played during season of the witch and don't have the fusion rifle and i just wanna know if i should have arc damage boost for techeum force (the fusion rifle I'm using as a replacement) or still use solar
Most of the damage will be from the rocket but ignitions are certainly a relevant amount, and ignitions are what reload the weapon quicker too

I was using solar warlock with apotheosis veil nothing too special other than that, stacked solar surges as it benefits both dragons breath and the fusion

If you want to keep it from firing and let it auto-reload a rocket, just hold down the fire button, wait for the 5x tick, it reloads press again and it fires another
Why would you do that when it auto loads and you could be using other weapons and abilities?

With the way argent ordinance is worded, you should be able to buff the entire reserves with just one charge if you don't swap to another weapon and just wait for the auto reload while you have it out. Not that that would be better than just swapping, but
Unfortunately the way it worded isn’t how plays out timer wise, For each rocket fired it’ll take one armour charge the you get 4.5 seconds of the godslayer buff which also enhances your reload speed

I'm not sure exactly on the split but it will make a difference. The surges carry more weight on the other weapons used and I intentionally picked a solar one so it benefits both. If you used something like the supremacy it might be better to run 2x kinetic 1x solar
I’ve been using x2 kinetic surges with Nighthawk and then swapping to Foetracer, throw knives or grenade and then get x4 solar surge and then swap to eremite while it cooks.
Dragons breath usually will proc two ignitions over the duration it’s stuck to an enemy so just subtract that and you have your number.
Afaik solar surge mods would effect the ignitions since the ignitions are triggered by the weapon which gets the effect

The grenades apply scorch which helps with ignitions, which then give dragons breath more fuel stacks

I dont know if this has been commented on already, but the Argent Ordinance buff goes away when a rocket launcher is stowed, rendering it mostly pointless with Dragon's Breath.
Just hold the trigger after firing to keep argent ordinance up and the gun will auto load
Not necessarily your scorch ticks across solar subclass is based on the amount of damage the scorch is applied from, so 15% extra for huge scorch ticks on top of 25% radiant buff

1:09 yes you can. it does take longer than usual, but you can most certainly still die to your own rocket if you stay near it too long (like Lasting Impression)

Ophidia Spathe on blade barrage and weighted knife. Weighted knifes will cause any target to ignite so long as they're scorched

it just dawned on me that this is the better anarchy
this mightve been just happenstance but, when i was running the new dungeon with a friend we both were using dragons breath. Ignitions were happening more often and we both were getting reloads off of it too, it seems like it actually doesnt care about multiple people. I havent used it a ton yet so I may just not be used to the values but yeah... cool gun, fire go brrrr.
Could still be a very strong option in groups then, I know ignitions can happen somewhat frequently just not at the exact same time so its still possible to chain a lot of them.
Out of curiosity how well does it work on the final boss?
The scorch damage dosnt play nicely with other dragons breaths only one person is able to get damage ticks, but the scorch that refills the rockets fuel does which is odd
True, but only one of those rocket shots was x5. Otherwise, they were x3, least that's what it showed on the left screen (slo-moed)
if you use argent ordenance, it WILL NOT WORK, the perk specifically deactivates when you stow the rocket

Nox Per with Envious + Controlled burst, any solar primary, and Dragons Breath on a Celestial Nighthawk Hunter gets me minimum of 7mil on the final boss of the new dungeon with upwards of close to 8 with consistent armor charges for Ardent Ordnance and surge.
Dont even need to do any crazy Izzy swapping or proccing Bait and switch.
Use primary to get radiant with the new seasonal mod, shoot rocket, swap to Fusion and dps till you hear the RL reload and shoot it again, use your primary if you need to get radiant.
The greatest thing about Dragons Breath is that it allows great heavy ammo economy.
Its a great fire and forget weapon and IMO it shoud be included for any solo run attempts for content that has you worry about adds or mechanics during a DPs phase.
I'll be farming the nox fusion when its in lost sectors for this exact reason it will be amazing. I used a build like the one you described to solo the new dungeon and it is possibly the easiest strategy to do it with while still being really effective.
@@DuqkD2 Yep. We do have the Eremite from last season to get the same roll and being Solar can match surges so there's definitely that option too. I just prefer having a solar primary for the artifact mods (easier to proc radiant with precision hits).

Only 1 ignition can occur at once so if a lot spam it the damage will be a bit less. But multiple people have commented using 2-3 dragons breaths at once was still effective so maybe it doesnt impact it too much.

I would say it's more like rocket anarchy.
It is not that difficult to use. It needs to be used like Witherhoard or Anarchy. Stick a boss with it then switch to something else until it is ready to be reapplied. The problem is like witherhoard the effect does not stack with multiple people using it so only one person should be.
Can you imagine if people hit a boss with Dragon's Breath and the Witherhoard for two different sets of tick damage both on the ground and upon the enemy? (Talking about the witherhoard ground tick while the on-hit damage is happening while the DB's rocket is stuck to them and setting the ground on fire.)
That stagger is for sure getting nerfed into the ground
i dont think it would add much to the numbers but could you imagine the over all additional area affect damage if you simply just waited a few sec. just holding it, let it build up some extra gas. then firing it. unless you jump n shoot. then this would be pointless more or less.

Yes it will work on both and more ignitions will make dbreath reload faster because of it

Problem is knowing when it's ready and not charhing in after the secondary explosion and blowing yourself up
It does make the same sound queue as auto loading although can be easy to miss with everything else going on
@@DuqkD2 True and yhe secondary explosion is hard to judge when you are doing anything from a normal strike to a GM Nightfall.

Completed my Dragons Breathe catalyst and it says a direct impact on target will continue to send out the scorch canisters on that target .. You get great impact damage plus very good damage over time / tick damage as well ..
How did you farmed the calibration data? It only gived me 2 for each strike or pvp. And we have to get like 200
