    Hey Sports Historians! What do you think about Fenway Park almost being replaced in the early 2000's, and do you think there'll ever be a time Fenway gets replaced? Let me know in the comments below!

    • @LeCommieBoi

      Replacing Fenway Park would be like repainting the White House yellow. Ain't gonna happen. They might come to build a new stadium for the Red Sox, but they ain't demolishing the Fenway any time soon

    • @AllSportsHistory
      @AllSportsHistory  Год назад

      @@tonyarceneaux286 In some cases yes, like the Hard Rock stadium in Miami. But I think in many cases, the stadiums are so old (like old Yankee stadium built in the 1920s) that it just makes more sense to knock it down and build a new one from scratch. Not that I agree with tearing down Yankee stadium but you get what I mean.

      It’d be like the Cubs replacing Wrigley, the Dodgers replacing Dodger Stadium or the Pirates replacing PNC Park. It’d just be a bad idea. There might come a time when the Red Sox might need to replace it, but if they keep up maintenance and repairs, it should be there for a long time to come. You’d just hate to see it go the way of the Old Comiskey park, replaced with something with no special meaning at all. My uncle went to old Comiskey many times between 1970 and 1990, even though it was a 3 and a half hour drive away. He’s been to new Comiskey once, he hated it and decided to never go back.

    New York sports fan here...
    During the 1975 World Series, I fell in love with Fenway Park and its uniqueness.
    At first I thought that during the new ballpark craze, it was going to be replaced, but the Red Sox ownership did the best thing that was fortunately repeated in Chicago, in not tearing down the original park, but restoring it in such a way that most people wouldn't know.
    Kudos to the mastermind of renovations of Fenway Park and Wrigley Field, for keeping these true jewels of baseball architecture alive and well.
    Too bad they couldn't save the original Yankee Stadium and Tiger Stadium in the same way.

    Fenway is beautiful. Seeing that green grass and the Green Monster for the first time, as a kid, was mesmerizing! The history you feel then and now, every time you enter the stadium, is awe inspiring and fascinating! The problem is, for regular attendees, that comfort isn’t good. The seats are small and many views are obstructed. Myself, brothers, and friends are all big guys and are literally squished against each other with no wiggle room whatsoever and no place for drinks, food, or anything else. I’ve been to several other arenas and stadiums and really enjoy the comforts of modern venues so much more. When news first hit about a possible new stadium, I was excited! I wanted a new Fenway with the exact same field features and dimensions but all the wonderful comforts new venues bring to the experience. I still feel the same way to this day however I do understand it will probably never happen and I definitely understand why with all the allure, beauty, & history Fenway has and the visitors it still attracts.

    Two things that might have enhanced this video : "Local boy made good" Tony Conigliario played very well for the Red Sox and Angels but he was hit by a pitch in 1967 and that damaged his eyesight. As a result, Red Sox owners closed and covered a section of the outfield seats after the successful comeback of "Tony C". That closed, covered seating section was named "Tony C's corner" so that he would not lose sight of a pitched baseball.
    Also, according to my high school teacher, Jim Rice checked his swing on a pitch at Fenway that was sliding out of the strike zone. The force of Rice's swing and stop/return broke his bat despite the baseball never touching it. I did get a less descriptive confirmation of that event from a television special on baseball.
    I used to be an NFL fan (not anymore). Despite not spending much time at all on spectator sports, I did live in Boston for a while and I have been to a game at Fenway, more than once and yes, it was fun.

I was torn when the Yankees announced they were tearing down Yankee Stadium and building a new one. I literally grew up in old Yankee Stadium and it was beyond historical. But a new stadium WAS needed. So many great childhood memories there. And Fenway has that same hallowed ground status behind it.
