My daughter has Marfan Syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder. Her lenses are dislocated and has a risk of retinal detachment. She has been wearing glasses since age 4. She started out looking through her lenses and her glasses were about a -12 but as her lenses have continued to move up out of the way she has transitioned to the opposite prescription and is now looking around her lenses at a +13. Her prescription keeps getting more complicated and at some point we are probably looking at surgery to get artificial lenses implanted and her natural lenses removed. She is nearing driving age so having good glasses is important. It has been a struggle this year to find a lab capable of doing her prescription. We are currently waiting on her new glasses. I had never heard of the preventative laser surgery. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Thank you so much Amy! This is very reassuring to hear from another mama who has a little in glasses. I’ve followed your blog off and on for years, nice to see you on RUclips!
Dear Amy, i watched all 6 videos about your cute baby Mercy. I am new daddy in China, i just got my baby girl who is only 2 months old. I found she had PRS at 2nd day she was born and had a genetic test immediately. Unfortunately, the test result shows my daughter had genetic mutation with de-function of II collagen, meaning she got Stickler Type I. My daughter has almost same challenges that your baby Mercy were facing. Your videos really inspires me when i saw you bravely and positively curing your baby Mercy. I do admire you!! Just want to know what happened in following years? Will Stickler baby will suffer endless pain in future? How do you cope with so many uncertainties and difficulties in future? I am looking forward to having your kind reply! Tks!!!
Mercy is now 5 and so far has no pain whatsoever. We are being proactive and taking her to a rheumatologist once a year, but there's been no need for intervention as yet. She lives a full, healthy, VERY ACTIVE life. Pretty much a normal 5 year old!
@@AmyRaisingArrows great to hear that! I am looking forward to your update on your Blog about Mercy, your blog is almost the thing that i can put on hope on my daughter. How's her sight and hearing? Does it affect her learning?
@@DennisZhao871005 She has a very strong prescription on her glasses and has had her eyes lasered, but she sees VERY well. Her hearing has not been affected.
Was she undercorrected? Many doctors recommend 2-3D Lower prescription for infants as they primarily look at things close to them. When they get older they recommend Progressives for high myopia patients but infants typically can't use those
Looking at things near under a distance prescription for long periods causes eye strain which often causes the Myopia to worsen faster. It's my personal feeling and many doctors all individuals with high Myopia who are candidates for progressive lenses should probably be given them. My prescription: O.D. -10.25, -1.25x177, +2.50 O.S. -12.75, -1.00x179, +2.50 I have a higher addition due to my close need to read (Acuities 6/65-L, 6/100-R) due to being legally blind

I don't believe she was undercorrected. That's interesting, though. Thanks for sharing!
