  • Bonanza - Episode 11 - The Truckee Strip - Caught in the middle of a longtime family feud over a disputed piece of land, star-crossed lovers Joe Cartwright and Amy Bishop try to convince their stubborn fathers to resolve their differences as tension escalates into violence. Written by shepherd1138
    The truckee Strip
    Director: Christian Nyby
    Writer: Herman Groves
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
Release Date: 21 November 1959 USA
Filming Locations: Big Bear Lake, Big Bear Valley, San Bernardino National Forest, California, USA
    Storyline:
Several men cut down a tree on a piece of land known as the Truckee Strip. One of the Cartwright ranchhands, Trump (Charles Horvath), sees the work and hurries back to tell Ben. Two men approach the fallen tree. Jason Carter (S. John Launer) wonders why only one tree. Jessup (James Coburn) assures him that one is enough. Ben Cartwright and Luther Bishop will cause more thunder over this one tree than Carter's ever heard on that mountain.
    Reviews:
"In this episode, Luther Bishop has a bad foreman that he doesn't know about. This foreman is trying to start something between Bishop and Ben Cartwright, and he almost succeeds!
Mr. Bishop has a daughter. When Joe meets her, he of course falls in love with her. They don't really understand all the fighting their fathers are doing over the land and wish it would stop. Unfortunately, things get worse when Jessup learns they are seeing each other.
This is an ending that sticks with me. In fact, today I had to leave the room so I wouldn't have to see the look on Joe's face when he discovers what had happened during the fight. Though they were planning to marry (with Ben's blessing), the marriage of course would never happen." Written by mitchrmp on IMDb.com
"If you ever have watched many of the Bonanza episodes you will know that falling in love with a Cartwright always ends up poor for the guest star. And in this episode we have the beginning of the curse when little Joe falls in love with a neighboring girl named Amy Bishop. But there is a wrench thrown into the mix because the Cartwrights and the Bishops are in dispute over a tract of land called the Truckee Strip.
Even though the feud between the families is history, it begins anew when a rich man thinks of a way to try to get the timber that is on the Bishop's property. He gets his roughs, led by James Coburn who just happens to be working at the Bishop's farm, to renew the feud and hopefully get Mr Bishop to sell the property so that he can get the lumber that he so much is seeking.
The feud is interesting but the main part of the story is the feeling that Joe and Amy have for each other. In fact Joe believes that this is the woman that he wants to marry and even goes as far as to seek approval of his father and Amy's father. But things will not go as planned when a fight gets out of control which will break the heart of many.
Having seen many shows in the series this was a routine script with predictable results. However if we were to revert back to 1959 and watch the first-run of this episode, I feel sure this would have been tugging at heartstrings and an enjoyable show. So I am giving this offering a good rating all in the name of not knowing the predictable results awaiting." Written by kfo9494 on IMDb.com

@@BalloonDva Yes. Most of the scenery is real on Bonanza and it was really filmed near Virginia City, Truckee, Tahoe and Carson City. Mostly desert there. Most common tree in that area is the Cottonwood tree. Their mature seeds 'snow' every year, sending seeds floating through the air. Near Tahoe there are lots of large pine trees. They are called Ponderosa Pine trees. Maybe that is where the Ponderosa ranch name came from? Of course Lake Tahoe is beautiful. Having attempted to swim in Tahoe, I can tell you the water is ice cube cold all year round. It is filled from snow melt. Very very deep. About 4,000 feet elevation in the area, so high desert. There are a lot of things that do not exist in that high desert, like: slugs, humidity and mold. I never had seasonal allergies until I left the area. The Ponderosa house (last I knew) still exists and can be toured. There is a ton of western history all around that area. There was a gold rush in nearby Virginia City. I wonder if the name of the show Bonanza came from the gold strike bonanza? I miss the high desert. Greetings to you watchers!

That's why for example in South Korea some male pop singers are not allowed to introduce a girlfriend (yes, not allowed. I really like Pernell Roberts' comments about the show: the Cartwrights were bullies. if they saw a "stranger," they never welcomed him/her to the Ponderosa, they pullled agun and threatened them. Good old Cartiwright western hospitality!

NOT TRUE, CARTWRIGHTS INVITE EVERYBODY AND THEIR BROTHER TO STAY AT PONDERASA- HOSS INVITES THEM ALL THE TIME-LITTLE JOE BRINGS RIFF RAFF HOME- EVEN BEN WAS PULLED OUT OF THE MUD BY ANOTHER TEAM OF HORSES- THE FOLKS SAID THEY WERE HUNGRAY AND BEN INVITED THEM BACK FOR "A SPECIAL MEAL" BY HOP SING, I DONT SEE CARTWRIGHTS AS BULLIES JUBILEE- HOW DO YOU COME TO THIS ?

Mornings... I just want something quick, good quality, and continuous ...so running through your Bonanza series. I have about 5 of those sites with thousands of TV options, yet this place is the best to wake up to over coffee. Hey, can you get any 'Have Gun Will Travel' episodes not already on RUclips? The writing for that series is also super.. I ran out of episodes, as few are on here.

I don't think Little Joe had told lie. Actually when little Joe got along with Amy , they should have talked many things which might not we could see or hear on the screen . Little Joe was a very emotional person , he expressed his emotion and feeling in a very straight way . In Little Joe's mind, there was only right or wrong . He could not stand telling lie .
