Great video Tony. When I was field mechanic out of Kamloops I was right down in the diversion tunnel when they were building it before the dam was started. They used a huge cable system to take the cement buckets out to pour the dam. It was used on the Aswan dam in Egypt.

Oh wow, thats fascinating info. I am always amassed at how something like this can hold back so much water, the Mica dam is even more impressive as its dirt.

The Mica dam is like a giant pyramid. Detroit Diesel used it as a proving ground to test their new cross head piston in the Dart belly dumps.

Excellent Tony! I love that area. My wife and I went on a tour of the dam last year. It's well worth it. Three Valley Gap is a beautiful location. We always stop there for breakfast or lunch. Anyway, nice work on the video!
    Cheers, Jack

Great scenery in this episode. I knew of Mica/Kinbasket but never knew Revelstoke had a dam nearby. Interesting following along this route. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ken, Yes, the Mica dam is much larger but made of earth not cement. Im very surprised how long these earth dams last. The North Saskatchewan river headwaters also has one made of earth (Athabasca resivwar)

Thanks, Tony! another great video of beautiful BC. BTW, before completion of the Rogers Pass highway, many canadians drove between BC and Alberta via the USA, esp in winter when the Big Bend was closed. Also, BTW-2, about 20-30 years ago, in the 3 valley gap area, a single huge boulder rolled down the mountain, hitting the transcontinental passenger train and killing a very unfortunate single passenger. Cheers.

Hello Tony must say how good your videos are and tying together information of the area and your drone work is smooth. also to show of the location that you video from. three mile crossing i remember well with the amount of east bound pick up of trains and also securing trains both at 3 mile crossing and Stella Jones crossing. and knowing the track so well with switching Clanwilliam and Three Valley and also Taft being a location for hot box detector set off location. your voice over has really improved and I am still surprised that you only have 2 thousand plus subscribers. at a certain point viewers well see and continue returning. I guess i am just a little biased, having working the rails for so long. looking forward to your further locations.

@@TonyVRailfanning we're looking at trains, so obviously there will be some. But please not for 75% of the videos. Crossings are easy to walk to, I understand. But I'm sure there are plenty of spots a bit away. And not needed with drone views. Thanks 🙏
