I live in Montreal and they just changed the intro for TVA 3 weeks ago. I gotta say they did a good job at finally catching up with the times with the new intro.
Yep much better than the 3D generic cityscape intro. I’ve already got a few videos on the new TVA intro in my channel.

Geez this is.......LONG. It's quite interesting to see canadian news nowadays. What a compilation, if only you could make a Seattle/Tacoma market one, that'd be amazing. I'm quite used to the sound of 615 Music and Stephen Arnold in Seattle. Nice work as always buddy!

Very good video, I loved it. I was very surprised to see so many regional tv stations in BC, Ontario and Quebec. It looks like each town has its own. And amazed by the diversity in languages too. And It was pleasant to see some faces again like Lisa LaFlamme,r Scott Robert and Mike Killeen (ex. CTV).
You really should do a new one because even if it's 40 min, it's like an great episode from a tvshow.
I'm thinking of doing a new one whenever CTV introduces new graphics. Hopefully next year.

Not one of these can possibly measure up to the BBC theme.
CTV might possibly be able to mesure up to BBC, but the CBC theme is so bad.

I am anglophone. I watched the theme graphics and songs of all them. I disliked the shortest CBC English ones. I most like the French cbc ones the best. Not to sure why.

From the UK here. Is there a reason why the smaller cities are affiliated with different networks? Especially in BC and ON. Quebec seems simpler to understand - they're either Ici, TVA or Noovo
Hi, thanks for watching from all the way in the UK. So basically the situation in the smaller cities is complicated to say the least. In the 1990s, most of these small town stations were affiliates of the CBC. In some towns, a single owner would own both the CBC and CTV stations (e.g. previously Thunder Bay, Northern Ontario, etc.). In many other cases, CTV stations have a rebroadcaster in these smaller cities (e.g. CFTO Toronto can be seen in Peterborough and CHAN Vancouver (formerly CTV) can be seen in Kelowna). Many of these small town CBC stations disaffiliate from the CBC starting in the 1990s. Eventually the CBC would stop renewing the affiliation agreements of the remaining stations and these stations would be forced to find an alternative source of programming. Under various ownership changes, most of the stations in the smaller markets would either be owned by Bell/CTV or Corus/Global. So being under the ownership of these two networks, the smaller town stations would come align with those networks.
I'm going to be grouping stations by current ownership as it makes it easier to see the changes.

The BC stations were formerly aligned with CHBC.
In the case of the Lloydminster stations, CITL was always CTV, while CKSA went from CBC to Global.
In the case of Thunder Bay, CKPR: CBC - CTV; CHFD: CTV - Global.
It's pretty confusing.

I am curious about the Omni international language broadcasts. Are they seen regionally or nationally?
Nationally. There's four regional (West, Prairies, East, Quebec) feeds that service the entire country where OMNI was not traditionally carried on cable & satellite.
@@Emarsee Thank you. That's good. It certainly shows more diversity than what is shown in the US. You find them in NY/LA and a few other large cities but that is about it.
I don't think a lot of the ethnic channels in the states produce their own newscasts. Off the top my head I can think of KTSF but that it.

Some general comments about the opens:
- How on earth did CKSA/CITL end up with the STV (Scotland) News theme? Also PTLN is a lame brand. They could have went with "Border News Now" or something.
- CFRN really butchered their news opener, CKCK less so.
- The Jim Pattison news opens (CKPG/CFJC) are pretty well done graphics wise (the royalty free music not so much). How CHAT botched that up is beyond me.
- The Radio-Canada Telejournal and TVA Nouvelles openers are nice, but they're too generic. I wish they had a bit more local imagery in them.
- The Omni News opens (graphics and music) are a huge step down from their previous look.
- Someone from corporate should tell the people at CBC Winnipeg to pick a brand. Are they CBC Manitoba? CBC Winnipeg? CBC Winnipeg News? CBC News Winnipeg?
- CityNews needs to bring back some sort of open/news music. It's such an underwhelming opening.
Depends on how much actually changes, if nothing really changes I probably won't bother. I'm kinda hoping for both CTV and Global to launch their new graphics, considering they're on their 6th and 7th year respectively. But COVID obviously throws a wrench into these plans, if there are any.
PTLN is a lame brand, but Newcap News wan't much better. Imagine if all CTV stations renamed their newscasts as "Bell News". Gross.
CFRN is an absolute tragedy to the CTV News graphics.
I agree that the Jim Pattison stations punch above their weight. I believe I've compared them to Scripps' new graphics before. It really says a lot when a small local broadcaster manages to beat a large corporation in terms of presentation.
To be honest, I'm not sure what they were trying with the OMNI News music/graphics. It doesn't make any attempt to show they're a multi-language newscast. The old theme was probably one of the best pieces of music used by a Canadian newscast.
@@Emarsee I don't mind CTV's local opens, I think it's the best out of any network in the country (barring CFRN's). I prefered the previous open that Global's local newscasts used (along with the BCTV-style branding for its newscasts). You're right though, they are getting a bit long in the tooth. It'll be interesting to see what they replace them with. I hope there is still a bit of regionalism in the opens. The trend (if you look at Citytv, Omni, Radio-Canada, TVA, etc) is for a less local look.
I am still amazed that the creative/graphics heads in Toronto let CFRN do those opens. They feel so incomplete. I get that they wanted to show off their drone footage, but it probably would have looked OK if they had kept the same sequence as the original opens - and you know, show the CTV News logo at the end.
I think I should've made myself clearer, CTV's current graphics are fantastic, CFRN's open is anything but. I don't know how their attempts at an open keeps getting worse, but somehow they managed to do it. Their previous attempt at least featured a CTV News Edmonton logo.
I'm hopeful that there are local elements in the new graphics, given the unwieldy number of stations both CTV and Global have compared to Citytv, or even the French networks.

It would be a big job, but what about all the news openings in the United States? It may have to be split regionally, with over 200 local markets.
Oh god doing all the American markets would probably make it a 12 hour long video. I'm definitely not doing that. I might do a video on the Pacific Northwest in the future, but just can't see myself doing any other region.

Among the English national casts CTV news feels the most newsy, that's probably because they have the best theme. Global News is ok and the CBC theme is just cheap, but the CBC has done a good job at cheapening the look of their newscasts both at the local and national level, way too sensationalist and commercial for a public broadcaster.
Ironically the most American feeling intro is the one TVA uses, it's pretty out of date though, most are going for a flat look now.
On the local level CityTV pretty much has no intro, just a title card, it's lame. RadioCanada has a great news them whereas their English brother has the musical equivalent of a synthesizer having an aneurysm. CTV local news sounds like their national counterpart but good god I cannot stand the Vancouver newscast, it's soooo American.
CFTK and its sister station have basically no funding and look like they're still stuck in 1995, at least CJDC is in HD. TBT looks like they purchased their entire presentation package.
CBC Windsor is sad probably because they only have 3 dollars to their name and their competitor CTV isn't much better. CTV London is STILL in SD just up-scaled which I think is ludicrous in today's world, however Bell probably wants to kill off that station so that's not changing anytime soon. CTV Kitchener and Barrie are only in HD because their control rooms were moved to an automated one in Toronto (which gives us such great screw ups such as reports from "reporter")

CBC is pretty much a lost cause outside of Atlantic Canada, I don't really give much thought to them outside of CBCNN. ICI still feels decent, even in the Anglophone-dominant provinces.
CTV does have the best theme, and honestly the best presentation, even 6 years after their graphics launch. Global is okay, but their package has dated worse than CTV's. I guess the flatness of CTV's graphics has helped.
I believe CJDC is still in widescreen SD, or at least that's what it looks like to me. Bell is really dropping the ball on a lot of their stations.
It's pretty sad that CityNews dropped their theme, it really does feel like a shell of its former self. Although I can say that about most newscasts across the country.
Emarsee it’s a race to the bottom. Newscasts have to spend less every year and it’s really starting to show. I completely expect local news broadcasts in towns like London and Barrie to be eliminated in 5 years.
I can see Barrie, but not London. CTV was pretty adamant about merging Windsor with London in 2009, so I can see them trying again in the future.

So agree on CBC. They had good local music for a bit when they first switched over from old red and white graphics in 2009. But even then it wasn't perfect
They should consider going back to the red and white era music and an updated version of those graphics. They were just much better.
Even CBCNN doesn't have proper intros anymore. Only The National does and it sucks.
